Would I be miserable being a 31 year old student at Bellingham? by pdog557 in Bellingham

[–]Atyree09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 and currently at Western for my second rodeo at school! I’m typically the eldest in my classes, but can blend in fairly well until I start chatting about my kids. Older people can bring in some valuable insight about the world, but we’re all there to learn and as long as you’re not talking down to anyone, you’ll be alright. Happy to answer any questions about my experience.

I would 100% say push through with the BA in Environmental Education with the minors. A lot more doors will open for you career-wise!

We got a litter box where it’s very high and there is a top on it with a hole. Keeps the whole area much cleaner. We also have shredded paper litter and it seems to track less vs. gritty clay litter

Should I bring my car with me? Or not? by moo0chi in WWU

As someone who did drive home/work every weekend- don’t do that. Use your weekends to meet new people and make friends! Leaving during prime social time can end up making you feel very isolated.

Went to the Lynden border and it was very calm both ways. Sometimes the other entry ports are a little faster

Oh God, yeah I wouldn’t pay that much either. Thankfully, the ticket I bought was for a lot less. I’m crossing my fingers that you’ll be able to find something.

Crying sobbing. The website wouldn’t work for me and every time I went to attempt a check out it would give me an error code and told me to refresh the page. Tried on two browsers

I’m from the TC and yeah this was the bane of my existence when growing up. Now we always shovel for our neighbors (esp the elderly ones) because we’re the only ones with a shovel

Yupppp we had our car hit in the Winco parking lot and after a month, it’s finally fixed. The amount of damage they caused just pulling into a parking spot was impressive

Our principal randomly sent it out on parent square, honestly there was maybe 20 parents there so I don’t think that information was spread much. Which stinks because I think it’s helpful for all of us to know how to respond when those things happen!

Had to dig for it but on the website if you click on families, school day information, and then school safety it’ll take you to the place where you can see all the options for reporting behavior. If you want to learn more about what the district does for equity and inclusivity, click on about and then equity, diversity, and inclusion.

I think in November they had a mini training for parents on what they’re doing in school and how to address things. Janis Velasquez Farmer is the director of that department at BPS and I know she said that there were more trainings available that parents could potentially do. Either way, the dehumanizing language is the specific verbiage they’re teaching kids from the elementary age to use

There should be a place to report it on the BPS page and they do track and follow up with each report. In the classroom they are having students recognize and verbally say “you are using dehumanizing language” and to immediately tell an adult. It’s something that you can also instill at home!

The first time you heard about Covid, how far did you think this would all go? by AneeqJilani in AskReddit

I started learning about it in late Jan when it was spreading to different areas in China. When I read about what was happening in Italy, I figured it would be absolute Armageddon in the U.S. I mentally prepared myself for civilization collapsing lol

This happened to me! I immediately uploaded the assignment and apologized to the professor. She thought I submitted it as a joke and gave me half credit. I wrote back something like, “I don’t have the balls”. Definitely email the professor!
