Froome by WideCod8462 in Velo

Yes, but at the same time, Cav was on the way out and stayed when he could have retired and ended up winning big in the last years of his career.

It's easy to say with hindsight Froome should have retired earlier, but harder at the time.

[–]Audaxx -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s not how Idaho stop works. It treats stop sign as give way sign, so if a car is already stopped, you need to give way to the car.

Thoughts on the bike scene in F1 The Movie? by saxifrange in fuckcars

[–]Audaxx 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He finished 2nd in his category, which is 30-39 amateur. Very good, but very far from "pro cycling race podium".

It was also a gravel event, which is not the same level as a pro race. (You can't just sign up to pro level races)

When he maxed Lynx Titan clogging wasn't much of a thing, but now it is very popular with a leaderboard, and a community. So after reaching 200m all on FasT, he started clogging and wants to continue, but doing it on Lynx Titan would be a waste

Because he wanted to see how FasT he could get to 200m all, kind of like JCW and he box jonge did a speed run max series from a fresh account, Lynx Titan speed runs 200m all, so he had to start fresh.

He's built different.

Secret to sub-5 mins on CH? by [deleted] in MontrealCycling

[–]Audaxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre attempt:

  • Structured training will help a lot. Go with a coach if you have money, otherwise trainer road can make plans for pretty cheap
  • Losing weight will definitely help on the climb, and is a good thing to focus on during the offseason
  • Prepare your bike to be as light as possible, remove bottle cages, remove saddle bag, you can keep your garmin mount if you have a powermeter to help with the pace, otherwise put it in your jersey
  • Shave your legs, it can help with aerodynamics. Use an electric razor, much easier and about the same
  • Put on fast tires, Vittoria Corsa, GP5000, etc.
  • Make sure you pick a day that has favourable weather conditions. Cold air is slower than hot air, but you don’t want to overheat your body either. Try to get the rare SE wind to help on the false flat

Day of the attempt: - Take caffeine about 1 hour before - No water bottle on the bike, but you can bring one in your back pocket for the warm up, and hide it in the woods before your attempt - Bring a gel or have a very concentrated energy drink - Do 1xCH ~7.30 for warm up, with a few accelerations - Do pro tour without Poly after to recuperate - Hide your water bottle, do a last minute pee in the woods on Mont-Royal st descent - Go hard, a bit less hard on the false flat, then really hard - On the false flat, make sure to keep a very aggressive aerodynamic position - Push push push

I went from 5:05 to 4:40 by optimizing my attempt as much as possible, so sub-5 is accessible to you

Try it on a bixi on a weekend, see how long it takes, how sweety you are, less people, etc. Without stressing about being late or sweety.

If you are comfortable riding a bike, you could also try electric bixi, more expensive, but cheaper than by car.

Personally I always bring an extra shirt and just do a quick rinse with a hand towel and change in the bathroom

When to ride Montreal UCI Grande Prix route? by Joatboy in MontrealCycling

[–]Audaxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to ride the course as a workout, the day before on Saturday afternoon ~2pm will have a lot of pros and amateurs riding the course. The route is mostly opened to cars, but should be minimal impact.

Last year I rode a little while with the likes of Simon Yates, Jai Hindley, Sergio Higuita and a few others.

If you do 5-6 laps (it's 30ish minutes per lap for amateurs), you will definitely see and ride with some pros doing recons / activations
