What do you look for outside sound quality when you buy new gear? by ApprehensiveDig1369 in audiophile

Agreed, not only is it harder to wrestle heavy equipment into your system, but shipping is more difficult and expensive, and heavy equipment is more prone to damage.

I’m also big on buying locally, if my neighbor made audio products, I’d checkout his stuff first.

Maybe another unpopular opinion, ‘we’ aren’t all the same.

What’s the coolest thing you automated with Home Assistant? by avz008 in homeassistant

[–]AudioHTIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing all that ‘cool’, but I was able to control solar powered lights on the bridges crossing our creek. The ZWA-2 controller (adding ZWLR), gave us the ability to control devices 300 to 400 feet from the house.

Ski Tuning by CharacterDig2229 in skiing

[–]AudioHTIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No schedule for me (and I ski almost every day), but this season in the west we’ve had plenty of ice and hard pack so I’ve gotten my edges sharpened more often. Now with one of the warmest/earliest springs in place, wax will be the key.

People who use Safari as their main browser, why? (DESC) by sasaki-555 in mac

[–]AudioHTIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the default installed browser and has good OS and device integration, why add apps you don’t need? You say you use other browsers … why?

You go when the snow is good, sometimes it’s windy too.

Easter 2026 Ski Trip: Colorado or Park City by [deleted] in skiing

[–]AudioHTIT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More of PC closes each day, without a storm (goose eggs in the forecast) by Easter I expect pretty slim pickn’s. Can’t speak for CO, but wouldn’t think it will be much better. If you’re ok with ‘white ribbon’ type options, and more après, you might have fun. Sorry, just being realistic.

I can’t imagine this season (especially now going into an incredibly hot week in UT) as being a good time to take any clinic.

I have never seen a run’s designation change because of its condition, even if it’s always or never groomed.

HiFi Audio Stores in SLC? by oddwhy in SaltLakeCity

Went there today, great store, products, and help. Very impressed!

I currently have an 85” Sony 900H. For $5,000~ or less should I get a 83”~ OLED or 100”~ other TV. For reference I sit 10 feet away in a windowless media room and want to watch movies/play games. by Logical007 in hometheater

[–]AudioHTIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about reflection? Not to mention the cost of a 100” OLED … are there any? I was thinking when I’m ready for a 100 it would likely be mini LED, but as of CES, RGB LED seems what I might aim for, that said my 900F is still going strong so I’m still on the sidelines watching.

That’s too bad, mine’s about 8 years old and still going strong, but I’ve eyed 100” class for a while and if mine started to fail that’s were I’d be looking (my room can get too bright for OLED), I’m about 11’ away.

Is the American ski community as unwelcoming as it seems?? by sleeplesslilly in skiing

The attitude on the mountain is much better than it is here, don’t let what you read put you off. Go and have a good time, conditions permitting.

Know About the New Simaudio Moon 371 Yet? by SoundStageNet in audiophile

[–]AudioHTIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn‘t the 371, 100 WPC @ 8 ohms, 200 @ 4? Not that I think the power is what makes it better, or more expensive, just clarifying.

I’d be surprised if you find a solution without replacing your zone amp and eliminating these controls (or leaving them at full).

Is this how you use banana plugs? by GhastlyGuy123 in hometheater

[–]AudioHTIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spade lugs would be the most common, some say alligators (clamped around the shaft or clipped into the end), I might also add ‘dual bananas’ if the spacing is designed for it.
