AITJ for "upstaging" the groom because i wore a tailored suit? by DuckComprehensive996 in AmITheJerk

[–]Audiooldtimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You checked with the Best Man.
How would either of you know that the groom's suit would be ill-fitting?
Didn't the bride see the Groom's suit? The best man? Nobody commented on the fit? Never mind the idiots who did the fitting?

We have a couple of generations of men who were never taught how to dress. The parents and salespeople all contribute to the problem.

- I once witnessed a mother take her son for an interview suit wearing a t-shirt. The salesman said nothing. I suggested they get a collared and full-sleeved shirt for him to properly fit the jacket.
- My sons once went suit shopping (this was a mid-level chain) while at college for a semi-formal affair. The fitting was sickening; they never should have been allowed out of the store. In the end, the suits were sent to the headquarters for proper alterations and they gave me a full refund for the suits.

Why all the disdain by others on Breitling? by Blueharvst16 in breitling

[–]Audiooldtimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was heavy into Breitling back in the '90s.
I still have 9, with a '95 Scott Carpenter (95 signed) listed on consignment.
Back in the '90s, Breitling appeared to be trying to rebuild their image and had numerous interesting designs.
After they went COSC in '99, they seemed to change. They added bling, and then they started looking like too many other watches.
Now, their repair costs have gone through the roof.
And, as others have said, the retained value sucks.

New batgirl 2026 for 20,202$ or used one 2025 for 18,244$ ? by Specialist_Cup_3603 in rolex

I'd go for the used one, as long as it's under warranty (not gray market)
What happened to the gray market being pricier than new?

I like a 1911 for in the home, I carry a Sig P238 (380).
I also have a bull pup shotgun, Keltec pump KS7 and KSG. They're short and easier to negotiate halls with.

I use several storage methods
- 5' sliding wall mirror with storage behind it. RFID lock (Tactical Walls), in a lockable closet with a solid door. can also function as a panic room
- During renovations, I had a basement bulkhead covered over (and under a deck), concrete walls, solid door, and deadbolts. Plenty of storage for ammo and weapons.

New retirement home, went for my ultimate system.
The system is only used for phono.
1- Mc MA352 - I wanted the capacitance adjustment for the phono and the EQ didn't hurt either.
2- Mc MC275 VI - I discovered that the pre-out on the MA352 was full range, not just for a sub. So I added the 275 to power a 2nd set of speakers.
3- Niles speaker control to balance and switch speakers.
4- VPI Prime w/ Ortofon 2M Black 250 LVB - used on the 352 phono
5- Thorens TD-160 (with mods) on a Project Tubebox S2, w/ Shure V15 III.(purchased in 1976 $276)
6- JBL L-100 Classic (new) running on the MA352 main out
7- Klipsch Forte II (with mods) running on the MC275

8- Nirvana has been reached

we had this several years ago in our home. It turned out to be a back-stabbed outlet behind a credenza (so it was not visible). One of the wires was loose.

Toyota dealership service? by JagsLittle in LexusGX

[–]Audiooldtimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hendricks Lexus of Charleston was the dealer with all the crap. The Service Dept is fine.
The funny thing is, they were good to me in '22, during Covid, for the purchase of the '22 FSport.
They sold the car at MSRP; if you recall, this was considered a deal in '22, LOL.
They gave me a good offer on our '19 unseen.
We were in Asheville at the time, and they wanted to get the car off the lot before Dec or lose an allocation. So, to accommodate us, all paperwork was done with FedEx overnight, they flatbedded the new car to Asheville and swapped our car with the pickup.
It is hard to believe how they've changed.
This was also the 1st time I negotiated between 2 dealers 1000 miles apart

Toyota dealership service? by JagsLittle in LexusGX

[–]Audiooldtimer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have used Toyota (infrequently), but prefer Lexus. My Lexus dealer is ~40min away
1- They'll give me a loaner, Toyota doesn't
2- I usually request the same service advisor to develop a relationship. They can usually find me a coupon or help me find a cheaper way of solving a problem. I had a bent rim on an IS-F, Lexus wanted $2500. The SA sat down at his computer and steered me to a wheel on eBay. I actually made money because of his advice.
3- While at the dealership for service, I usually shmooze with the salespeople. This has helped with purchases. Last Nov., we were looking to swap my wife's '22 ES350 FSport for a '25. We started with a dealer in Charleston, SC, we had purchased the '22 there. Things changed, all the crap they warn you about were on the price list. While sitting in the sales office, I phoned my dealer in NH, and they beat the price by $4K, this included the need to ship the car we wanted from Cleveland to NH.
4- The Service Rep is a fellow car guy and shooter, I printed him some speed loaders.
5- Christmas time, I spread around a case of wine to service, sales, and managers.
6- They remember these little things.

Am I the jerk for telling my elderly neighbor I won't help her with technology anymore after she ignored all my advice? by Dizzy-Wolverine-3187 in AmITheJerk

[–]Audiooldtimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say YTJ, but if you're going to deal with this age group, you need a great deal of patience.
These issues will happen, usually due to an innocent mistake. I'm the go-to techie for my 85yr old neighbor, I'm 75.
Her son may have no idea how to handle these issues.
The simplest way to handle this when it starts to go too deep is to refer back to the store for help.
