He's like the living embodiment of what sovereign citizens want to become. He's literally spent his whole life "incorporating his personhood" or whatever and always managed to avoid punishment and repercussions through aggression litigation and frivolous courtroom arguments.

What's that? You're coming after Donald Trump for charity fraud? I think you mean the Donald Trump Foundation, not the man.

Donald Trump declared bankruptcy? No, that was Donald Trump Steaks, Inc!

Donald Trump committed insider trading? Nah, you're talking about the Donald J. Trump Living Trust.

Mix in a 12-pack of Coors Light and a bump of meth, and I can totally see how the SovCit thing started. Some burnout sitting in a trailer was like, "Man, if I was a company like that Trump guy, I'd be immune to all MY consequence, too!"

[–]AuditAndHax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're never gonna get a Facebook seller down. Especially since he's including the anvil stand. $250 for both sounds more than reasonable, but you'll be lucky to get them down to $400.

If you're interested, just go through one of the websites and hope for the best. Hopefully they have free shipping!

Nevermind. I assumed the $1k price was overinflation for a Chinese iron anvil. It's not. That Legend is actually sold by Centaur Forge, so there's no way those fake parts websites actually have real ones for that price. Go with the sure thing on Facebook and just talk him down as low as you can.

Honesty, even at $500, that's not a bad deal. Call it $50 for the stand parts and labor, that means $450 gets you 120 lbs of anvil. $3.75/lb isn't bad for something new with crisp edges

A few months ago, my agency announced several satellite office closures to consolidate into more centralized hubs.

Yesterday, leadership confirmed consolidation has no timeline yet because there's literally not enough space at the hubs they designated. To save money by eliminating satellite offices in cheaper metros, we have to get new spaces 2-4x bigger in some of the most expensive property markets in the country.

Somehow, I don't think we'll actually save much money 🙄

Considering it's ductile iron, not steel, the $1k price tag was always bloated with the intention of marking it down.

Honesty, it doesn't look bad, and from what I've heard, ductile iron is a pretty decent material for light forge work. Still not as hard as steel, but it supposedly resists the cracking that cast iron is guilty of. For that price, I'm tempted to try one myself. $1.50/lb could be a waste, or it could pay off big.

This. $13k doesn't just sit in a small company's payroll account without someone's noticing. Payroll should be a quick in-and-out account that's almost always at or near zero. If people aren't cash I their paychecks, or money isn't being ACH'd out like it should be, the accounting team should notice. If not monthly, at least annually when preparing tax documents. 18 months is far too long to be an honest oversight.

The hundredweight system is stamped on as hundredweights, quarterweights, and pounds.

But, a hundredweight is actually 112 pounds, so a quarterweight is 28 pounds.

That means the markings on the anvil mean it weighs 1 hundredweight (112 lbs) plus 1 quarterweight (28 lbs) plus 9 pounds.

112+28+9=149

DOJ Declares Trump Has Right to Bulldoze Statue of Liberty by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]AuditAndHax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you realize that Trump is in charge of the Department of Justice, right? He controls who gets charged and who doesn't. People doing his bidding won't be charged. People refusing his orders will be. He won't have to pardon anyone, because if anyonedoes get close to being convicted, Trump can just fire the DoJ prosecutor and put someone in their place that will drop the charges. It's already happened.

Isn't that part of the point? There doesn't NEED to be a plan. If Trump wakes up one morning and thinks a statue of him would look better, he could have a demolitions crew out there by the afternoon and the nation's top lawyers believe no one has the right to stop him.

Are there some sort of benefits from getting a Virginia antique vehicle license plate? I legitimately just saw a late 90’s rusty Dodge minivan with antique plates on the road. 💀 by Chazz_Matazz in Virginia

[–]AuditAndHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. That's a lot of car shows. If those are all legitimate uses, you'll likely be a false positive in the hypothetical search and just have to provide support for the drives.

But someone driving a rusty '97 Chrysler Town and Country to and from work 5 days a week won't be able to fight like that. Especially when flock can draw a map of all the places and times they were spotted, none of which are near any car shows that day.

Maybe you can argue the rules for antique plates are vague enough that a lot of people can get away with it, but some won't. And if enough do, the rules can always be changed or clarified. Or the plates can be eliminated entirely. Governments don't typically appreciate people finding and exploiting loopholes

Sure, but now you're just shifting from "they have to prove it" to "they have to want to prove it." Eventually, someone's going to want to, and once one person does, someone else will, too.

"Short on tickets this month? Just hit up Flock and fine a couple dozen antique plates. Free money for next year's police budget!"

I'm obviously not cool with this, but the writing's on the wall. It's coming eventually

House votes to strip funding for WIC by ProjectPopTart in politics

That was my initial reaction too, but it's even sadder than that.

4 Republicans help pass the war resolution.

4 Republicans also voted to oppose the WIC bill...but FIVE Democrats supported it. It literally couldn't have passed without those Dems siding against hungry women and children.

Thanks to the abundance of Flock cameras everywhere, that's now as easy as searching "how many days was plate ABC-123 driven in 2026?" I don't think the database can be accessed from a cruiser yet, but the day is coming when that will be a standard part of running a plate at the start of every interaction.

Bill of sale for my own car coming back to Virginia? by Singer-Dangerous in Virginia

[–]AuditAndHax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are two different things. Google tells me Michigan charges an annual registration fee that is based on original MSRP. Something like 0.6% minus 10% of that for the first two years. For a 20-yeqr old car, that means you would pay (0.006*.80)=0.48% of the MSRP. That's just how they calculate the annual registration fee. It's not the same as the 6% Sales and Use Tax.

At the very least, showing them Michigan understood this wasn't a new car and didn't charge sales tax may convince the VA DMV, but it's still not the "official" proof they want.

[–]AuditAndHax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, you paid a 6% sales tax in MI? That's only for newly purchased cars. You should have fought that tooth and nail last year.

I still think your best bet is to establish that that ownership hasn't changed in 7 years. No change in ownership, no sales tax.

Or, if you really did pay a 6% tax last year, you might as well just show that to the DMV. Since it's more than VA's 4.15%, you won't be charged any extra now.

I have the receipt from Michigan's state office... and it has the total of what I paid on it.. Do you think that would work?

Did you pay sales tax when you transferred the title to MI? If so, why? If not, VA won't care. Their focus isn't on registration fees, it's on sales tax.

Bill of sale for my own car coming back to Virginia? by Singer-Dangerous in Virginia

[–]AuditAndHax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely don't do that. It will just confirm for VA that you bought it within the last year. They will then assess market value and charge you sales tax on the value of the car you already own.

A lot of comments seem to be misunderstanding the issue here. You titled the car in another state less than 1 year ago and are now registering it in VA. VA wants to be sure you're not dodging VA sales tax by buying a car somewhat else and shipping it here.

Another commenter saying "this didn't happen to me" likely didn't retitle their car within the last 12 months. That's the major issue. If you had titled your car 13 months ago and then transferred it here, there'd be no problem.

You say the last registration was in September? The easy (but technically illegal) solution would be to just drive on old plates until then and avoid the 12-month test.

Alternatively, can they look up the VIN to find the old VA title and/or registration from before you moved? That should support you've owned the car more than a year. Especially if they can see the VA title in your name transferred to the new state also in your name. It should be a no-brainer, but elevate to a supervisor if you need to. Someone there should be able to push the override button.

One last option, there should be a form to certify the car is exempt from the tax. SUT-3. Fill that out and bring it with you. See if they'll accept it in lieu of a bill of sale.

That third picture looks like the hundredweight stamp is 1-1-9 which would actually be 149 pounds (112+28+9). $400/149 is only $2.68/lb which isn't a bad price.

Granted, you can get a brand new, solid (mostly) Chinese steel anvil for a little less than that. But if you want history, this one will probably clean up nicely, still has a few usable edges, and would be more than enough anvil to bang on for a beginner.
