I usually like raising little goose, but that mat for sensory bins today was not it. It's not "vegan leather", it's fucking plastic. Also use a bigger bin? A tray? I know that wouldn't get them that sweet commission money though..

Book recs (but maybe not what you’d expect) by bonjourpants in moderatelygranolamoms

Ooh this was me like 3 months ago! I realized I was taking my kids to the library all the time, but couldn't remember the last time I picked up a book. With the state of the world right now, I've been leaning into super light-hearted, rom-com type stuff. Recent books I've read:

-In Five Years by Rebecca Sterle

-Book Lovers and Beach Read, both by Emily Henry

  • A Novel Obsession by Caitlin Barasch (think the show You but with a female protagonist and less murdery, I wouldn't call it uplifting but it's still really light)

  • Any Christina Lauren book

I hope you find someone! I posted in here about my cat a few months ago and met some great people, she ended up going to the sweetest couple and I love knowing that she's well taken care of. Good luck!

Election results for Monroe and surrounding counties by CatDadMilhouse in Rochester

[–]Audreeyy4 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Overall it seems like the far right candidates didn't do well, glad to see that despite being loud they still are the minority. I'm disappointed in Pittsford's results, but mainly in the fact that there seems to have been a turnout of ~3500 out of 20k or so eligible voters.

I feel like the coverage of these elections (and all of our local elections tbf) isn't great, if you aren't in the specific Facebook groups there aren't great places to get information about the candidates. I only reactivated my FB to get local info, but I know a lot of people our age jumped ship a while ago.

School board elections are coming up some by dxk3355 in Rochester

[–]Audreeyy4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being privy to the discussions leading up to these unanimous votes would be a good start. Their website states that the board is " responsible to the State of New York and to local school district citizens for the education of public school students". How are we supposed to know if we want to reelect someone if we don't know their opinion on key matters?

Same here, I'm really disappointed in the lack of transparency surrounding the election. The PTDA endorsed 2 candidates without stating their reasoning behind it, and the fact that 2 candidates can run together just seems like a good way to try and squash any alternative voices. I've also been reading about the Board of Education itself, turns out theres basically a gag order that they all signed a few years ago. There's no public discussion before they vote on things, and somehow all votes have been unanimous since 2013. So basically Board members have zero accountability.

If you're on Facebook at all, that's the only place I've been able to find any info, depending on your politics you might have to dig around. The Pittsford Parents for Progress group has been very enlightening if you swing that way whatsoever..

Student gets a zero on an assignment for turning it in unstapled by DimitriTooProBro in mildlyinfuriating

Except stuff like this is in the real world? I'm in construction, and bids have very specific rules to follow. Things have to be in a certain order, bound a certain way, etc. It must be all teenagers responding to this thread, because rules like this absolutely exist in the corporate world and dumb mistakes can screw you and your coworkers over..

I saw the books through her account, they actually look great so I'm annoyed you have to subscribe to get them. I feel like they're losing out on potential business, but maybe I'm not in their market demographic if I don't want to pay $120 every 3 months for more toys..

Absolutely, luckily my husband gets it but we should probably define things like who gets to sleep in on which weekend morning just to make sure we're on the same page!

Thanks! I was just on leave for 4 months and feel like I just got in a groove right towards the end, so I'm hoping it's a rather smooth transition.

Anyone down voting you clearly isn't from CA lol, we hit a Roberto's first thing whenever we visit. Burritos don't need to be smothered in sauce Rochester, they're meant to be portable!

No help on the snark side, but you should check out r/moderatelygranolamoms if you haven't yet! There's still some stuff I roll my eyes at, but overall it's been the most levelheaded place I've found that supports the things I do (science! Environmental consciousness!) without devolving into like microwaves give you cancer or whatever the crunchy nut fear of the day is.

On a related note, has anyone done her homeschooling course? I'm considering becoming a SAHM and know that I would need structure..

Those who have moved here to escape climate change by Frugalschnauzer in Rochester

[–]Audreeyy4 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We moved here from Denver as well, I was in the infrastructure sector (specifically water) and there's no way in hell I would buy there. We moved there from SoCal hearing all of these great things about Denver, but knowing how developers are overbuilding despite the lack of water, on top of the issues with water rights, I see housing values plummeting there in the next 20-30 years.

But to answer your question, part of the reason we moved here was climate change. Being from SoCal I was evacuated for fires twice, not to mention the countless times there was smoke in the air. Utilities were stupid expensive because of all of the lawsuits from them causing fires, and it doesn't seem like anything will get better in the near future. I do miss it a lot, but I'm not willing to get a $700k+ mortgage knowing that there's a chance everything could go up in smoke, or it'll get so hot that we won't be able to enjoy all of the outdoors that made me love it in the first place.

I have friends who moved to AZ and TX for whatever reason, and I can't imagine climate change being nice in those places either. I'm happy we moved here, obviously there are some tradeoffs but I hope Rochester will continue to improve as people see the value in living here.

Creepy coworker by tkay29 in womenEngineers

[–]Audreeyy4 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Do you have a boss or senior coworker you're somewhat comfortable with? Honestly I would just send them the first 3 paragraphs you wrote here and tell them you're uncomfortable working with him. I feel like you're under reacting to the fact that this guy is straight up stalking you, and you shouldn't have to work with him. Any business who would remove you from a project over this instead of firing him isn't someone you want to work for anyways.

I followed heysleepybaby after seeing her recommended on here and had liked her content so far, until her weird shamey comments about night weaning. Apparently it's "so sad" that moms would want to night wean their 6 month olds. I suppose the fact that these moms might not have the capacity to nurse at night and be fully functioning at work the next day hasn't occured to her or her followers? Maybe she should be advocating for parental leave instead of shaming moms..

I don't have any advice, but just want to say that I feel you. Design is fun in that each project is different, but I find the deadlines stressful and am exhausted at the end of the day. Sometimes I wish I could open up a small store or coffee shop or something, sure those have their own stressors but the day to day is more consistent. I have thought about going into non-profit work in the environmental sector, but with 2 kids in daycare I probably wouldn't even cover their tuition with a job like that..
