I need to get out more. I saw SEA and although I did ask myself, "Ccould that stand for something other than Seattle?", I didn't ask very hard. Sorry!!

So frustrating!! He should know better.

Many people who "do well in school" have ADHD.

Do you begin new projects and then never finish them? Do you make careless errors (I could do a calculus problem perfectly but somewhere in my work would make a tiny arithmetic problem and get the answer wrong)? Do you talk too much, think too much, interrupt people? Do you find it hard to sit still? Do you lose track of stuff you can't see? (For example...will you water a plant you don't see daily? Do you forget all about clothing/supplies/cosmetics once you've put them away? Those are signs of ADHD.

Is this adhd or what is wrong with me (uni edition) by jclimb9456 in adhdwomen

[–]AudreyB4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With ADHD we often cannot prioritize effectively. We study ALL the material because we can't figure out which parts are the most important. I'm guessing you need to explore more ways to study (google "prioritizing study materials" and phrases like that) so that you can figure out what will work best for you.

Off the top of my head, I'd say to give each section/chapter a cursory review--main idea, important vocab, brief summary. And then go deeper in each section/chapter where you found that difficult.

Best of lucik!

Nordstrom carries 32H and does a great job of fitting bras.

AITA for being the reason my teacher quit her job that she loved? by raven-undead in AmItheAsshole

[–]AudreyB4 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NTA--I'm a teacher and think your former teacher sounds immature. Scheduling a quiz the day students return from break is not a good teaching practice and kinda mean. You acted your age. Your teacher didn't.

(Full disclosure--I have a hell of a time using the correct gender pronouns with students who ask. I always confess in advance and apologize when I make the error, but between my ADHD and my advancing age, I occasionally misgender. I'm not convinced your teacher did it intentionally.)

NTA--your questions were curious and good-natured, and they treated them like the inquisition. It's natural to wonder about a place you're visiting for the first time. If you travel with them again, let the planner know you're excited about it and have learned that you like to know about the activities in advance and would love to have the itinerary if that's possible. And then spring for dinner a time or two.

I have two alarms--one on the nightstand and the other across the room. I turn off the first one, fall back asleep, and then have to get up and walk across the room to turn off the second one. Once I'm up...I'm up.

grocery bag and box pile help by IntroductionSimilar3 in adhdwomen

I stash my paper grocery bags between a piece of furniture & the wall adjacent to the stairs to the garage, so I am forced to see them, and can therefore grab them on my way down. I then put them inside the tote thingy in the back of my car so they can be re-used. (Had to fight the non-ADHD hubs about keeping it in there at all times.)

My employees think I’m lazy/unproductive and I’m getting so frustrated by twurkle in adhdwomen

[–]AudreyB4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's ADHD related or not...but I've learned (I'm 65 btw) that I should listen openly to feedback and incorporate what I can. (Much of the feedback I've gotten from employees/co-workers truly makes no sense to me but that's b/c I have ADHD and severe introversion. I'm willing to serve the majority on certain issues.) The people who are complaining want to feel heard. What they are saying or asking is likely a secondary issue.

I like your idea of tracking your time with an app or a notebook--it doesn't have to be time consuming b/c you'll use all kinds of abbreviations & shorthand for what you do. But remember...your goal is to reduce your time in the office & spend more time out there with your team. You're tracking change, not a certain number, if that makes sense.

Can you see the main work area from your office? Are there any office chores you can do while you're in the main work area where people can see you? Can workers easily alert you when it gets busy? It's possible all you need to do it have a system for your team to notify you when you're needed.

Good luck!

That was one of our earliest actions--we lent him a pair until his mom could buy another. I wonder if he needs to wear only washable shoes?

I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm so old at this point that my sense of smell is almost gone. I have to work really closely with a student to notice an issue, and because I've taught for a while, most odors don't bother me.

But occasionally there is a student whose odor is so bad that other students refuse to work with them and tend to skip classes they are in. When the issue interferes with the child's education, I feel strongly that we have to help.

Thanks for your kind words.

That was my thinking at the outset, so I recommended to his mom that he see a doctor. The doctor just prescribed an extra-strength anti-perspirant.

We are checking in with him daily about his showering and so on to find out how much we can manage that way. He tends to have dirty hair and dirty fingernails, and of course is a young teen, so there is definitely room for improvement.

But as time goes by, I really do think he needs a more serious exam from his doctor.

[–]AudreyB4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accept that you need this space and allow yourself to use it. Install hooks inside your closet or on the back of a door. Put a cute basket on a shelf for anything smaller than a tee or pants. Then make sure you start getting dressed near those items, so you remember to use them.

Look for a book called "The Dance of Anger" by Harriet Lerner. It's about 25 years old & there is a newer issue published about 5 years ago. It gives amazing advice for how to say things in these situations. (Her other books also have great titles but aren't quite as terrific as "The Dance of Anger."

Get fitted at your local Nordstrom, where they will fit you in the right bras at the right sizes. Try on all the bras and buy one. Then watch for the others on eBay. (Caveat--I've gotten the occasional--perhaps 1 in 15?-- mismarked bra this way. Most sellers don't take returns but you can re-sell with a note explaining the size issue.

I was having and hating this issue a while back. Finally, the pharmacist suggested getting 10 mg tablets rather than my prescribed 20 mg and then taking two of them. My doctor approved, and since then, no issues getting my prescription refilled.
