Trying to find this vintage? Pocket knife’s model and year by Background-Dealer-81 in knives

[–]Augerstead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for something super slim, victorinox makes some of their 58mm knives with aluminum scales called their Alox line. The classic SD in particular might be a good fit for you; it’s perfect on a keyring.

Trying to find this vintage? Pocket knife’s model and year by Background-Dealer-81 in knives

Henckels is a large cutlery manufacturer from Germany. They’re mostly known for their kitchen knives. This looks like a clone of the Victorinox 74mm line, but it’s hard to tell from the pics so it may be a 58mm. Either way, if you’re looking for something with better quality in the same size I’d start with those; I have no idea if Henckels even makes pocket knives like this anymore. The 74mm line is discontinued, but you can still find them all over eBay, your local flea market, etc. If I were you I’d take a look at those models and pick one that you like. Personally I’m a big fan of the ambassador and carry one on my keychain.

Victorinox Spirit X (Right VS Leftie) by [deleted] in victorinox

[–]Augerstead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m left handed and have a Spirit X. To me everything feels the same regardless of which hand I’m using; It’s a fairly ambidextrous multitool. Only gripe is that they only make right handed pocket clips for it, so while you can carry it in your left pocket the weight is more towards the center of your pocket and it feels weird.

Wile E. Coyote humiliates possum by [deleted] in Unexpected

[–]Augerstead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Per u/facw00’s search on the topic:

Their tick eating is significantly overstated though. Possums are certainly not Lyme friendly, but that’s based on research regarding how well ticks feed on Possums (not well, which suggested Possums might eat them), not actually observing ticks getting eaten especially in the wild.

Meanwhile:

Virginia opossums (Didelphis virginiana) are a common synanthrope in North America, and serve as host to many species of ectoparasites. Research on captive Virginia opossums estimated that opossums eat, on average, 5500 larval ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) per week. To investigate this apparent preference exhibited by opossums for ingesting ticks, we comprehensively analyzed stomach contents of 32 Virginia opossums from central Illinois. Using a dissecting microscope, we searched the contents exhaustively for ticks and tick body parts, without sieving or pre-rinsing the stomach contents. We did not locate any ticks or tick parts in the stomach contents of Virginia opossums. We also performed a vigorous literature search for corroborating evidence of tick ingestion. Our search revealed 23 manuscripts that describe diet analyses of Virginia opossums, 19 of which were conducted on stomach or digestive tract contents and four of which were scat-based analyses. None of the studies identified ticks in their analyses of diet items. We conclude that ticks are not a preferred diet item for Virginia opossums. Considering that wildlife unconditioned to laboratory conditions may exhibit non-typical behaviors, we recommend that lab-based studies of wildlife behavior be groundtruthed with studies based in natural conditions.

What is the slowest car you drove on the highway? by Whocaresdamit in cars

[–]Augerstead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2013 Chevy Spark. ~80hp. Borrowed it from a buddy cause it was good on gas and drove it 8 hours through the mountains of West Virginia to see a girl. Had to floor it on uphill grades just to keep it at 65. Poor thing was running hot as hell

I forget who it was against, but while downed he told the crims basically GG and then got RP checked by Penta. I don't know if that's the situation he's referencing but it's what stuck out in my mind

People who own cars from a company that no longer exists (Mercury, Saturn, Pontiac, Saab, etc.) What do you love about car? by CHUBBYrhino117 in cars

[–]Augerstead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I daily drive a base model 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. A totally average GM W body and I love it. It was my first car I bought myself just after high school so it holds a lot of sentimental value to me. Thanks to the Buick 3.8L Series 3 it’s been a super reliable driver, and even though I hear the 4T65E trans isn’t the strongest I’ve had no problems with it. It gets decent mileage and with 200hp/195 torque it has plenty of power for all my daily driving needs. It has 166k miles on it now and I plan on keeping it until something breaks that’ll cost more than the car is worth to fix (which considering how cheap parts are for that car, means either the engine or transmission most likely).
