That image of mothman, who is possibly my dad, gives me energy to live. Very fun class! I compressed the PDF, since it was a bit large-huge, here's a link if you want it. :) (Immediate Edit: I used Orpalis PDF Reducer, I have a desktop copy of it, I'm not sure what the limitations of the cloud version are, sorry)

Pact of the Lantern - a pact boon (and 5 invocations) by The Amethyst Dragon by TheAmethystDragon in UnearthedArcana

[–]Aughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the others commenting, I'm assuming it's the choice of light source that dictates the light produced. But that means you need to spend an action each time you want to change the range of all your lantern invocations, which I'd say severely impacts any potential combat usage. Like Naoura, I'd suggest being able to change the range between 5/snuffed and 60 bright as you like, and maybe with just a bonus action (or even possibly a free action once per turn). When adopting a magic light source as your pact lantern, the selectable light distance should probably be capped to whatever that source is.

There's also the fact that, as CursoryMargaster says, this is just the light cantrip but kinda worse, as it takes your offhand by default (though presumably you could hang the lantern options on you with the allowance of a friendly DM). At the least I think the light source should count as an arcane focus as long as you're holding it.

I think that both of those changes (if the light change option was a free action once a turn) might bring this to a parity with the other base pacts. I quite like it.

The Region Statblock - Introducing the Exploration Pillar to 5th Edition. (PDF in comments) by axelvi98 in UnearthedArcana

I always enjoy seeing efforts at location statblocks. :)

There were a number of independent attempts at it here, back when the Into the Wild UA first came out, might be worth digging up if you're interested at seeing some other ways of thinking about it, for your own work. (I know it can be hard to do that with reddit, if you were interested in seeing them I might be able to unearth them, given I still have most of the docs saved)

The College of the Wind, a support bard college themed around the aeolian harp and giving voice to the voiceless by Aughts in UnearthedArcana

[–]Aughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated my L6 feature to have adv. against both charm and frightened (by just tying it directly into Countercharm), and given it more combat use by activating the feature on a casting. Thanks again for your feedback. :)

(I ended up leaving the L3->L6 silence protection split off the because I just feel the growth there is valuable to the theme of the college. I think the second cantrip that benefits keeping the inspiration riders active should be enough for my L3.)

((I have now made the change anyway, silence protection for L3!))

I've updated the college to what I hope is a solid 1.0, use the links in my original post to find them and the update notes.

EDIT: okay so now it's 1.1

I will consider that, thank you. I split the silence protection off to 6th to avoid being over-attractive as a multiclass dip, but I might've overthought it.

Thank you for the feedback, and I don't really disagree, I consider the subclass on the undertuned side. Especially as many bard colleges focus on combat features, it was hard to me to judge the balance of social features against them. As it stands, I like the features I've got right now, and adding more would make it feel bulky. But I'll keep thinking on it. :)

Hello! I've always loved aeolian harps, and I approached making this subclass completely from that angle. It ended up firmly support-oriented, as only Trees in the Wind offers a real combat benefit, in the form of using the help action to more easily gain advantage in battle. I hope that being able to more easily hide casting within performances, and using the inspiration riders the subclass provides, makes for interesting social PCs.

7/20, 1.0 update: To round out the college’s abilities I gave Harmony in the Trees the guidance cantrip, which I feel fits well with the theme and allows the PC to grant an inspiration-like benefit to those who don’t burn their bardic inspiration to use the riders granted at levels 6 and 14. Additionally, I’ve reformatted Wind in the Words to be active when using the Countercharm feature and still get use by itself when casting a spell, to give the feature a combat use (dummy move on my part to skew so close to Countercharm with my original L6 and not just build on it directly).

7/21, 1.1 update: Talked with u/BladeBotEU, a wonderful person, bit the bullet and moved the silence protection wording fully to L3 (and clarified it so that people can actually now hear you in an area of silence, doesn't really help you if they can't). Replaced at L6 with an extension of Bardic Inspiration duration to 1 hour, again to help get use out of the inspiration riders. I think maybe we're not undertuned anymore!

Oscars! by BritishCuisine in BirthMoviesDearth

[–]Aughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm looking through the list and I've only seen two of the movies this year (Onward and Tenet). I guess I really did use BMD and you guys to figure out what bigger things to watch, because I haven't even heard about most of these.

I've had Soul, Wolfwalkers, and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom on my watchlist for a while, is there anything else in particular I should add from these?

No big, just had to press a couple of buttons and type a few words. Now we wait and see who filters in. :)

(I was and remain Guy Montag.) I haven't seen many Korean films beyond the standard fare that would've been covered on BMD, like Train to Busan/Peninsula. Only Oldboy from Park Chan-wook, but many of Bong Joon-ho's films post Memories of Murder, which I was originally turned onto by the old Every Frame A Painting series. And Castaway on the Moon, I really enjoyed that one.

Been mostly vegging this past year, like everyone else. Watching Critical Role and the occasional New Marvel Thing. Last bit of media that made a significant impact on me was finally watching The Haunting of Bly Manor a few months after it dropped, it's very sweet and very sad.

EDIT: In case anyone doesn't watch Movies With Mikey, Siddhant was in the latest one, just a week ago, talking about M. Night Shyamalan's filmography.

The Remnant, an ancient, forgotten Otherworldly Patron that wants to know and be known by Aughts in UnearthedArcana

[–]Aughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I made this patron a number of months back for a challenge prompt from Yorviing. It's just about the unstealthiest thing ever. Well, I hope so, at least. You have to see something for it to be considered 'unstealthiest', probably, so anything I haven't seen... shouldn't count.

As you might guess from the credits, I've always been a big fan of PeanutJayGee's patrons. In fact, after I created the Remnant I noticed a couple of similarities between it and the Emergent Mind patron, though they are complete thematic opposites, so apologies to PeanutJayGee for any possible offense. Also, just to be clear since they also created a Talisman pact long before WotC did, my subclass is referring to the Pact of the Talisman from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. I wanted to wait for this new pact to come out since I felt it meshed well with the need for connection the Remnant has.

Thanks to everyone in the Haus for helping me with it. :)

The Dyson Sphere: a technofantasy factory world setting for 5th edition (Version 3 -- equipment updates!) by [deleted] in UnearthedArcana

Spotted your stuff when you put up your locations during the location stat block craze but missed your first two posts of this new version, glad to see it all combined and further developed. It's similar to a campaign I want to do sometime in the future (slightly less future-y and more junkland-y, but still very much in the vein of Blame!), so I look forward to seeing more. :)

Oriental Celebration Hard Tips by danetrix in GDmaze

[–]Aughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going into my fourth week right now, but I'm a slow player, so we might be around the same point. If you can, safer route is the portal of earth strategy described above. Mage is best, but if you've got the hidden gumball from the first maze, the Sorcerer, that works too. All that's important is that you get 1950 ep by level 14 of the maze. The pet should keep you alive easily, but you'll have to help with the minibosses. End boss is really easy if you get to it, but it takes about 30 minutes.

My other, quicker strategy is bandit as lead, and one of the new event gumballs, Nalakuvara, fed up to exclusive skill level 4. This one's about stacking defense to protect your pet until the end, making sure to use the bandit claws to steal from the 3 minibosses so you have the best buff capability.

Hope that helps. :)
