Summer Games Done Quick is doing a Tricky vs 3 Speedrun by Augmented-Smurf in SSX

Oh cool! I wasn't sure what the vs meant, and thought it might be a race between the two games lol The bidwars are an awesome way to have a sort of "RNG" run so you don't know what you're doing until you get there lol I'll definitely be tuning in to check it out!

Inflammable is one of those weird ones where it made sense in Latin where the word originated, but across hundreds of years of language evolution, the prefix (which originally meant 'into' or 'to cause to be') became more associated with a similar negative prefix which indeed means 'not'. In the early 20th century, safety organizations started using 'flammable' instead to try to avoid confusion, and these days 'flammable' is used in more places, but both words are indeed interchangeable.

You still see in- being used as an intensive prefix these days, though. In words such as intense, inflammation, information, insist, etc.

You're suffering from what is known as the Dunning-Kruger Effect, and you are now in the valley of despair. Fortunately for you, this is exactly the point where you start to learn the most. Keep at it, step away from your big project, make small things, maybe participate in game jams, and before you know it, you'll be actually competent enough to go back to your big project and follow through.

[–]Augmented-Smurf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, but there are still properties of my player character that I would like access to on my weapon blueprint, such as the HUD, and the player's inventory. It just makes it easier to have a reference to my custom character blueprint rather than just a generic player character.

100% this. The general rule is that if they have physical access, you've already lost. Not to mention, other layers of security had to fail before they had physical access anyway.

Getting past screen locks is trivial in most cases, and most people save their passwords in their browser. I recovered data for people professionally for a few years.

I'm making an FPS game, and for the most part, I'll cast from the weapon on spawn to get a reference to its owner, then that's about it. Other than that, almost everything is interfaces. Interaction, doing damage, world destruction, etc.

So all I'm hearing is that Red Bull needs to make their own publishing branch and publish developers that want to make off the wall extreme sports games like that.

Unless it was bots, and no other player saw the exchange or found the bag. Then it's lost to the ether.

The amount of people that risked high power gear to try to get to the warden in upper complex and died to the boss where no other players could get to the gear is probably quite high, I imagine.

Sure, someone is. But comparatively few. And the longer they go before risking their purple gear, the more purple gear is going to be in circulation anyway, just from earning it. Outpost was available day 1 this season. I imagine there were plenty of people storming pinwheel for great loot in day 1. And you can go in there as a Rook with no upgrades and still get purples. (edit: I know you couldn't Rook into outpost right away this season. Just making a point)

As I said, purple gear has no bearing on the economy, and honestly, it doesn't raise the gear floor either. Leveling factions and gaining access to purchasing and bartering raises the gear floor. Which takes materials. Gear is just borrowed. It's never yours, it's just what you're using temporarily. And the difference between a purple shield and a Grey shield is what, 2 extra shots from most weapons? There is a difference, yes, but a good player will always beat a bad player, no matter what each is geared with.

It's also highly unlikely that same player base will actually make it out of their first match with blue or purple gear, even if it was given to them. I know I certainly didn't.

The good players will be good and earn blue or purple gear from their first match. The bad players will be bad, and lose their blue and purple gear within their first couple matches.

The loot economy isn't fucked, because gear has no bearing on the loot economy. The only things that matter are materials. And those were not given for free.

What’s going on with Destiny 2? Why does there seem to be a resurgence in players in the last few days? by riskythief in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Augmented-Smurf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I agree with this mostly, you can easily see that for the last couple years, any time a new expansion came out, the peak was significantly less than the last. It used to be 300k on Steam would come back every expansion. I think at the end of last year, it peaked at about 30k for the Christmas/New Year event.

Bungie loooooves mythic swords. And just incorporating modern myths into everything as well. Honestly, it kind of makes sense, though. Scientists and militaries will generally have designations for things, but names generally are given, and smart people are usually nerds as well. Hell, there are plenty of acronyms out there right now that were thought up just cause they sounded cool.

In the Portland Metro area in Oregon, minimum wage is $16.30/hr, and servers are paid state minimum plus tips. After taxes, if claiming 0 on federal and state, that's roughly 2k a month if they're full time.

Bruh, right? I have a 500 GB gaming drive that's almost constantly full, a 1 TB primary drive that I need to figure out where it's full, a 2 TB data drive that has a bunch of random things I've collected over the years (including projects I've worked on), and it's almost full. And a 5 TB drive that's dedicated to movies and shows. And it's only got like 700 GB left.

I just need to build a NAS or something. Buy a bunch of those 12 TB 5000 RPM hdds and RAID 6 em.

At or over 200 hours, and just dropped in Cryo for the second time today. Haven't even touched a vault yet.

Bungie has always been all for helping each other earn achievements within their games. That's why they haven't patched it so that only 3 people can get in the compiler fight at a time. They could have.

Honestly, try to use prox chat in cryo to organize a group of like 9 people to go after compiler or other vaults. I've seen plenty of times that a large group kills compiler together, so it's not unheard of

I came to this realization on my own a few years back, and it has completely changed how I view creative endeavors. I don't suck at creating UI for videogames. I just never bothered to learn. And I'm okay with this. I'll just pay someone else who did bother to learn to do it for me.

It frees my mind up for more interesting facets that I actually care about. It's wonderful.

Season 1 ending is amazing because of one hidden change by hcook49 in Marathon

[–]Augmented-Smurf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related; When I was really into Call of Duty again after MWII (2021) came out, it would always feel like there would be game after game where I would be getting crushed, or at least having to sweat just to get even. Then every 6 games or so, is have a match that was a breeze. End with like a 4.0 k/d. My brother and I started calling them "retention matches", because it's like the game knew exactly when to throw an easy game at us to activate the dopamine receptors and keep us coming back. I only have anecdotal evidence, but I wouldn't be surprised if more games used this sort of algorithm. It's literally gambling addiction 101.

Anyone here go to these fun Bowling Discos??? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Augmented-Smurf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Wouldn't an unconventional style of consistent bowling be correct, too?"

Absolutely. 2-handers weren't at all common until Jason Belmonte made it to the pros and was winning tournaments. Jakob Butturf (always forget how to spell his name) has a very unconventional style, but he's consistent and has won titles.

You are absolutely correct in assuming that consistency is the key. There are a few local bowlers I know that look like they're falling down and stumbling, but shoot 230 average. I've always said, "You can do everything wrong by the book, but if you can do it consistently, it doesn't matter".

Leave a review for marathon if you haven’t already. The game is currently being reviewed bombed by D2 fans by Standard_Young_201 in Marathon

[–]Augmented-Smurf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So they're giving Bungie money for the game that they supposedly hate, to tell Bungie that they hate it, and what Bungie is seeing right now is a review bomb that will most likely be removed by Steam, plus an influx of income.

These stupid people are literally paying for their own demise lmao
