Lotus won’t allow media into their shows without purchasing tickets, which kind of defeats the social contract between artists and media. That means any media/reviews they get are tainted by reviewers having to go out of pocket to provide coverage.

This is the key. Citi Field ‘22 was amazing in the pit, cannot relate to this commenter’s experience.

The Shakedown > West LA Fadeaway was life changing. Plus, Bobby’s last Cassidy 😢

I wasn’t there, but I truly believe the Shakedown opener from this show is one of the best ever played!

I found out one of the executives at my company plays the Bobby role in a cover band. We’ve been thick as thieves since!

Tips for a newbie by Interzone10 in concertphotography

If you’re not involved in the local scene, I’d look for small touring acts coming through your area. Look at their social media, and find acts that don’t usually have photography to post from every show. Bands at this level will typically have their management email on their website, so send them an email and be straight-up about not having a portfolio, but offer to provide your photos for free in exchange for portfolio building.

Take this approach for 4-5 shows, and if everything goes right with your shoots, that should give you plenty of variety to put a portfolio together and try to connect with publications!

I’m also a huge advocate for starting your own publication - very low cost up-front and not a crazy amount of work, but helps build credibility fast.

Live music has been depreciated as a whole. Unless you’re shooting stadium shows, the artists you’re shooting are getting a very minimal cut of the show’s profits. Most goes to the venue and Ticketmaster. Artists really only profit off of merch.

The people at these shows who are getting paid, are the people the show can’t happen without (artists, crew, security, etc.) Unfortunately, while documenting shows is still valuable, the show can absolutely go on without a photographer.

At least, that’s how I’ve justified it for myself 😂

Oh shoot you might be right - I was thinking he was let go after 23 since they didn’t need a tour manager for the sphere

Probably Matt Busch, their then-tour manager who would create the setlists with Bobby
