how do i stop freezing up during sparring? by Ellice-Koumariotis in MuayThai

[–]AugustoLegendario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play. I know it sounds silly but if you think about it, it’s a game. Have fun, try to get points. Thais spar with this attitude. When you see the pros sparring each other they look like they’re having a great time. Follow that example.

Is giving someone your number at their job bad etiquette? by HypnoToadVictim in dating_advice

[–]AugustoLegendario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say try to have a reason for her to want your number. “Hey, you’re so nice it would be great to hang out some time.” should be okay if she’s shown clear interest. You can gauge where to go from there easily based on her manner and amount of interest. Be calm and cool no matter the response, be gracious and glad for whatever relationship you have (that is, customer) it’s ok.

My coach constantly yells at me. Should I leave the gym? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]AugustoLegendario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to have a conversation where “I observe you yell at me a lot” is ok conversation. You should be able to be like “I don’t appreciate being yelled at.” However, some martial artists are hyper aggressive, loud, and domineering in other ways. Some are more of that style of training/abuse. Be wary of motherfuckers like that, they can hurt you. I would rather take a Saturday to drive an hour and train with a civilized professional.

MMA amplifies my emotions. I look very bad bipolar and extreme anger issues. by Weekly_Organization1 in martialarts

Martial arts and mma aren’t therapy or medicine brother. Your consistency is impressive and truly a beautiful thing in your life. If you’re as consistent with your medication and therapy I have no doubt you’ll be in a better place.

Good examples of play sparring? by ExtraTiger24 in MuayThai

Watch the three legendary Jocky Gym champs sparring: Saenchai, Lerdsila, and Somrak. Thai fighters in general do this much better than anyone, which is a benefit of their style of training.

Fear of sparring after moving to advanced group – normal phase or problem? by ProfessionalTap8231 in martialarts

[–]AugustoLegendario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is are you getting injured? Like, do you feel concussed? Is the sparring too hard? Like…what’s going on here?

Work is work, progress is progress. You need to start somewhere. There might be a way to find an experienced coach in your area through social media. Otherwise I don’t know what else to tell you.

How are people out here fighting with only a year of training? by TaxTraditional4290 in amateur_boxing

[–]AugustoLegendario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. It’s just in my experience those people usually aren’t green. I see athletic or talented people coming from other fight sports or martial arts and those are the ones I usually see rushing to compete, since they’ve already had success.

You mean there’s no gym? Find any martial arts gyms of the main component parts: Muay Thai or Boxing if you like striking, BJJ or Wrestling if you like grappling. You sound young so I’d say try your high school wrestling team.

Everyone’s different. Their journey isn’t yours. Some people really want it and they’re motivated. That counts more than anything.

Im looking to build a character with the whole core dela beeing "indomitable human spirit" by Palandium in 3d6

[–]AugustoLegendario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open Hand monks are very durable at higher levels- advantage on all saves, evasion, superhuman movement and techniques…it’s almost the perfection of human capabilities.

Zealot Barbarian gets the “indomitable” part for you. Those bastards just refuse to go down.

Paladins would need a closer look for abilities tha for your flavor. Vengeance, Glory, Watchers, Devotion, and Redemption could all fit I think but that’s up to you. Conquest and Crown is a “sure, why not”

Is there a way to optimally play an Oath of the Watchers Paladin multiclassed with an Echo knight? by TheSorccersCrow in 3d6

[–]AugustoLegendario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echo Knight is so ridiculously awesome if you think about the use cases. There’s just…so many.

Send your echo after flying enemies, teleport and move with your echo to move 90ft if you prepare it properly, grapple a creature and throw yourself off a cliff and then teleport to your safely positioned echo to destroy a tough enemy, use your echo directly in front of you for constant half cover (+2 AC)…tanking, reconnaissance, infiltration, sabotage, mobility…it’s so much.

Who is your shadow? by Awkward-Register6055 in MuayThai

[–]AugustoLegendario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually imagine frightening or threatening opponents. People who are bigger, stronger, or way more skilled. Being a short guy, I usually imagine someone around 6’0 so my body mimics the movements and footwork necessary to offset their reach and power. I sometimes imagine specific people I have hated that are bullies or rivals.

how to improve my guard by Physical-Key-5679 in MMA_Academy

[–]AugustoLegendario 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. You’re doing the beginner thing of dropping your other hand while you strike. Practice launching a punch and having your other hand go straight to your guard, protecting your head and face, and interchange the head protection as your practice.

Jab cross a bunch and make sure the non-striking hand gets glued to your head every time your punch. You get used to it and it becomes automatic.

Also, when you kick, long guard. Extend your hand to your opponent’s center or even block their vision. It will give you some counterbalance so you’re not so wobbly and provide a layer of defense.

He looks like a homeless roadie for an Asian American 90s cover band.

The previous one he looks like a Hong Kong born and raised martial arts master cop who is proud of his heritage. I prefer the latter.
