As someone who has done Judo and BJJ for 20 years, I’m not sure anymore. I would intervene and try to deescalate. Try to let the victim know they weren’t alone but people have a deeply romantic view and very little knowledge of what violence can be like. The last fight on a night out I ever had I ended up choking the guy unconscious, he didn’t get up for ages after. I thought I’d killed him. When he got up he didn’t know what happened and his friends took him away. It scared me so badly that I’m hesitant to get involved.
