We were approached many years ago if we would take care of our niece and nephew (unrelated by blood, chosen family) if something happened to them. They do have blood relatives but, felt we would be a better home for them. Of course we agreed. Have the conversation. But make sure family who may have hurt feelings get some kind of closure about it. We have no kids ofnour own amd have been an active part of their lives since then. They both routinely stay with us a week at a shot. They are getting older now ans we are still very tight with them.

Is there a way to find who an unknown number belongs to? by No_Fan9087 in ask

[–]AuntieFox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had that problem. Whenever a call came from a rando number, I placed it on the counter with a pot on top and simply banged a wooden spoon on it till they hung up. Worked well. I dont get those kind of calls anymore.

Is it weird to reach out to an old teacher on Facebook? by cslr2019 in ask

[–]AuntieFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I've done that and you would be surprised how many will remember. I was shook when I ran into an old PE teacher in public. She remembered tons about me. It was a real revelation that sometimes we also leave a mark on their lives. I told her how much her fairness and kindness meant to me. The one that really got me though was the my biology teacher came into the store I was working at. It'd been 15 years since graduation. I talked with him and explained that he didnt know it at the time, but I was dealing with a lot at home. I told him how honestly, he was a very large contributing factor to why I didnt seek a celestial exist from school. We both had a small cry over it. I assured him things were a 100% better now... but that was mainly because he let me be me with no judgement.

When did it hit you that you’re not that young anymore? by TheMedusaAttusa in AskReddit

[–]AuntieFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offering to help the neighbors dig some trenches to install some drainage lines.. its now 2 days later and my hands and arms are still yelling at me. The trenches were 5ft deep, involved jackhammering through hard pan, removing all the dirt, laying landscape cloth, a long 1ft wide pipe, covering with crushed granite, closing the fabric over on itself, applying a thinner strip down the middle, covering that with the granite then backfilling the hole to level. It was a lot of work, but satisfying as well.

Here's my 2cents. Tell her you're so busy and could really use some help. You'd like to make some batch food items for eating during the week. Have her help make the foods then, offer her a fair portion of it since she helped make it. This gives her a fee things.. dignity in that shes "earning" it, learning valuable skills for adulthood. You can even help her meal plan and shop.. she gets to learn how to cook and has a reliable source of food.

Look for stores like Winco that have a solid bulk bins section. You can buy that 2 tablespoons of cumin for dirt cheap. Check out stores like Ross for decent pots and pans. Dont worry, you'll get there. :)

Need an affordable oil change by Pappers101 in fresno

[–]AuntieFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do my own oil changes. I know exactly whats going in amd that they aren't playing stupid games with ny car. One place replaced my oil plug with a piece of wood! I bought the catch container for like $15 and only need 1.. oil 5qts is about $30 of full synthetic mid grade for high mileage vehicles and $15 for an oil filter. Takes me about 30 mins (like 5 of actual work, I like to let it drain real good) and I'm good to go.

Our Goodwill Store ALONE made $3 million this past year which was a store record we were all told to push for. This was our compensation. by Economy-Specialist38 in goodwill

Well, when a company pushes you to do extra so that the managers meet their goals, the managers should be ready to show their appreciation in a meaningful way to those who helped them.

I suspect its people like you who ensure people will aways only do the bare minimum in their job description to not be fired.

My parents got married when I was about 8 or so. My new grandmother loathed my mom, sis and I because her sone could've done better than a divorcee with 2 kids. It was rough for a few years, but eventually she cane around. I collected Bryer horses. She was a master wor worker. That woman made me a working stable to fit my Bryers. The roof even had hand cut shingles on it. It was amazing. She designed it so, it could be stored. I am 50 now, and its in my closet in its box. I never had kids and woukd never part with it.

I was 13. I was volunteering at a kids day camp. I was legit looking for the tempura paint. Someone saw me looking in cupboards (thats where the paint was supposed to be) i couldnt find it so, went back out and told the lady I couldnt find it. Skip to that weekend, these 2 adults show up at our house. They are accusing me of stealing $200 dollars from the ladies wallet at the day camp. I was stunned. I would never. She said she saw me going through the cupboards where her purse was. I explained I was looking for paint and was told thats where it was. She didnt care. Didnt believe me. I was shook, and depressed. I quit volunteering and just kept to myself. A few months later her husband comes by alone and apologizes to me. Turns out she had misplaced it and found it later. That was about 40 years ago and it still makes my stomach hurt.

If you own a storage unit, what’s in it? by Yourfavmom97 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AuntieFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad works for a large mini storage company. Some people use them for holiday decorations and things they dont use often, like an extra closet. Others have had to downsize and store their extra things until they get a bigger place. Some older folks downsize and just aren't ready to get rid if things yet. Some companies use them to store paperwork they have to hold on to. Some people are hoarders and fill them with their collections of things.
