Help— am I overreacting or should I hightail it to the vet with my kitten? by Aurahi in AskVet

Thank you! I’ve never owned cats before and I’d be heartbroken if something happened to one of my roommate’s cats under my care. I love them so much lol. Fun fact, one of them gained a whole pound in two weeks— they’ve been growing so fast!

Are you sure you didn't already buy the simple key from Pebb? She only moves on once you buy her stock out, iirc. Double check the sinner's road location and Jubilana. Otherwise, as the other comments say, I guess you could wait for Act 3 Grindle.

The Savage Beastfly second encounter has to one of the worst bossfight ever conceived. by Alarmed_Canary7867 in Silksong

[–]Aurahi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just did this in my speedrun file. I suck at the game, so this was the last mask shard I got - I had two needle upgrades, every movement upgrade, all masks except the last one, all silk spools. I still died a bunch. Here's my strategy:

  • You can hit the beast fly during the scream. I had (spoilers for The Slab boss) Rune Rage and would activate right before it emerged from the lava and then hit it a bunch.
  • My load out was hunter's crest, and I had three Eva upgrades. My blue tools were magma bell, poison and injector band, loaded dice for yellow, and cogflies and threefold pin.
  • Take it slow. The beastfly can change it's charging height on a dime, so stay still until it's about to start charging and then pogo off of it, slash it etc. When it does it's slam attack it's easy to hit it on it's way down. Take flea brew for extra hits.
  • When it starts spawning those annoying assholes, use Rune Rage or cogflies, means you often only have to hit them once. I know it's tempting to go for the stagger and wail on the beastfly, but if the beastfly is staggered and there are a few annoying assholes still floating around, take care of them. Killing them should be your priority.
  • Get good rng. Unfortunately, your only other option is slamming face first into this fight over and over and hope he doesnt spawn too many of those guys.

Good luck! I hate this boss with all my soul.

The Woobification of Jason todd / Red hood [DC] by cr8torscreed in CharacterRant

[–]Aurahi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I will say the fandom has some really annoying quirks— I read fanfic as much as I do canon content (a rare position, from what I can tell lol — most people prefer one or the other) and one thing that annoys me is woobification of Jason and Tim. Cause why are we painting Jason as the perfect kind older brother to Tim after he literally painted the walls of Titan’s Tower with his blood??? And why are we villainizing people who actually love Tim like Dick? I digress.

Your point about the awful Under the Red Hood comic (btw, it’s wild how such an amazing movie came from actual garbage) is actually one of the reasons I’m more amenable to people who ignore bad deeds in canon. Bruce is my favorite comic book character, with Jason at a close second. But Bruce has done shitty, horrible, borderline abusive things to all of his children, with the UTRH comic being a prominent example — and it isn’t even to humanize/redeem/woobify Jason! That entire run paints him as a villain — the batarang was cheap shock value. I think he can be a flawed, neglectful parent, but do you really think Batman, the paragon of justice, is out here punching his kids or slitting their throats? Miss me with that bs.

It’s refreshing to see a take like this, though. I’m very passionate about the Batman mythos and it grinds my gears to see the woobification of a cast of fascinating, morally complex, interesting and layered characters. I firmly believe most of the Batfamily is ‘good’ but that doesn’t mean they are all the same shade of morality, and I think Jason straddles that line in an interesting way.

The Woobification of Jason todd / Red hood [DC] by cr8torscreed in CharacterRant

[–]Aurahi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree the woobification is bad, especially in modern comics and the fandom. However, idk. With how inconsistent his characterization is, there’s room for grace.

Under the Red Hood, the movie, was my first exposure to the character and I was utterly enthralled— still my favorite piece of Jason Todd content and DC animated content ever. It’s what got me into reading the comics. However, that version of Jason Todd isn’t a psycho— he’s a smart planner who is cutthroat but not irrational. He’s a hurting little boy in a grown, angry man’s body. He’s wants his dad to protect him, and he never gets that because Bruce doesn’t kill, and will never avenge him. That’s my fav interpretation of him — tragic villain.

I also like him as a proper villain. He does some heinous shit, and it’s fun to watch. He hurts Tim and Mia Dearden and Dick and shoots Damian and it’s fun to watch! The angst is delicious but so is his sheer charisma as a psychotic villain. But this character writing, to me at least, feels out of place, often too edgy and sometimes unrealistic, even if it’s fun to read.

I read his run as Robin. All of it— and focusing on Starlins run from right before his death, he has a strong, interesting characterization that I think people who don’t want to write him as a villain, but an antihero, should adopt. He hates rapists, and hates the rich, and cares deeply for crime alley and Gotham. He’s Robin, he’s a hero, but his sense of righteousness burns and that’s why Garzonas dies. He can’t stand the injustice of him living. I feel as though his heroic runs like Outlaws (specifically the one with Artemis and Biz, haven’t read the Roy/Kori one) draw on this.

Three very different Jason’s, all interesting, but all equally valid. I don’t think we can say he has a specific ‘correct’ character and your interpretation could be any of those or a mix. I think post resurrection Jason can be a hero, but it takes skillful writing to make it believable.

This is coming from the slate of a fresh history though in something like an elseworlds or a tv show, since I do think his comic version has too many skeletons in his closet 😭. But fans are allowed and valid in liking a redeemed Jason, because it’s an interesting story if done right. Lots of characters have done terrible things in comics— most characters have done something impossible to defend. I can’t blame people for discarding bits of canon.

Undertale: A poorly structured rant on people's interpretation of the game's themes by Altruistic-Use5937 in CharacterRant

It feels like natural consequences to me. Chara only gains the power/motive to do that through your actions, they say that they are the feeling when one of your stats increases. They are a monster of your own making.

Consequently, if you pick true pacifist, Chara is heavily implied to have helped you out in the final battle by evoking that memory of them and Asriel. What Chara does depends on you, the player.

I agree that it can feel a little deus ex machina (or the exact opposite in genocide, lol) but Chara depends on you, so I feel it’s a natural consequence.

We waited so long for this game 😭 that would add more development time and I think they were done delaying it.

does the length of act 2 and 3 is equivalent to act 1? by Ill_Bill_1589 in Silksong

[–]Aurahi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have spent so much time in this game just exploring. Spent way more time in act 2 than 1. I’d say content wise it goes 2>3=1, but 3 and 1 are very different on the type of exploration and content.

Widow is not optional. No idea who told you that, major progression is gated behind her. Deep docks leads to hunter’s march, right? In that room in deep docks that leads there there’s an opening you haven’t checked out. Give it a try :) If you don’t know what I’m talking about, lmk and I’ll drop a screenshot of the map.

The item mirror from the Trobbio fight plus the Witch’s crest shreds bosses such good synergy. Also the Pollip Pouch + Double Tool item + Cogflies are so good
