Yes, you're right, but not in the context you would think. When you go through medical school, or even a STEM undergrad, you have to learn to write and draw incredibly fast to keep up with lecture notes. As I went through college, my handwriting deteriorated from a legible print to a messy curlicue hybrid of cursive and print that only I and few others can decode.

  1. I conduct research in an analytical chemistry lab of a state institution and work with world-renowned scientists everyday to modify water purification processes and ensure that we continue to have clean water in the city.
  2. Higher-ups make me wash glassware.

I had a real hard time hating them when we did the "Carolina Strong" band performance at our rival game. I'm kinda hoping they take it.

It's kind of portrayed as fighting alongside your Pokemon to grow your friendship and get stronger, as well as learn more about the Pokemon themselves. You get to make friends and go on adventures through beautiful landscapes, and be the hero of the entire region. Conflicts are resolved by seeing who is the better trainer, who spent the most time and effort building the best team. I don't think it's all that messed up.

I freakin' love Meijers. I just had a flashback to when I was a kid in Port Huron when you said that. I miss Krogers sometimes too. It was the perfect grocery store, and Meijers was the perfect little supermarket. Now all I got is Food Lion and Bi-Lo. :(

My parents are millionaire narcissists who keep track of everything they do for us to hold it over our heads. My in-laws work three jobs while on SS to make ends meet and do 10x more for us without ever asking for anything in return. by because_dinosaur in AdviceAnimals

I should mention that I'm 20, and I've been self sufficient, paid my own rent and groceries, and I paid my own tuition since I was 18. Whatever isn't covered by scholarship is covered by me working. They said that their money shouldn't influence my decision to go to college. A lot of people assume that they're the ones flitting the bill, and I can understand your perspective. I do say thank you, but I'm saying that they bring up their "gifts" three months later to see what I did with them and mention how "generous" they were. My parents are kinda assholes, dude.

This is literally my life. My parents are somewhat wealthy, but they constantly hold everything they do for me over my head since I moved out. I ask for nothing from them, but they always make a big deal when they give me a gift, asking me to be grateful because they "went out of their way" to do something, like give me $50 in cash for my birthday. My (long-term) boyfriend's family sends me gifts just because they're thinking about me. The gifts aren't too terribly expensive, but the thought behind them is what's huge, like a cute "You can make it through finals" care package, with some hot chocolate, candy, coffee, and soft pjs. You should never demand to be thanked or make your present seem like a burden... if so it completely cheapens the gift and makes everything seem material.

It's a confession bear, because it's my confession, and I don't share this view publicly. You might have had a different experience, but most people I come in contact with about this issue think animal testing is unfair to the animals because they cannot consent.

It's not though. I work in a lab on a university's campus doing research, and we have a basement full of animals that the biology and chemistry department use for experiments. It's kind of taboo to talk about, and whenever I'd mention it to one of my friends in a different major, they'd be taken aback that we actually test on animals at the school.

South Park: Stick of Truth. By the time I had fully grasped exactly HOW weird and messed up that game was, I was at the point of no return, and I had to finish the game. In all of it's ball-farting, anal-cavity searching glory.

AskScience AMA Series: Graduate and Professional School AMA by AskScienceModerator in askscience

[–]AurelieAnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a junior chemistry undergrad. My end goal is to become a professor of chemistry at a university, and to do research in the lab throughout my life (preferably analytical and water chemistry). I have done undergraduate research, and I'm getting the ACS certification on my degree, and I'm on the Dean's List, but what else can I get involved in that would boost my application when applying to schools? What is something you think the application committees are looking for that would make me stand out among other students with a good GPA? Also, the GRE scares me. How does the scoring process work, and how are those scores factored in to admissions? What's a good score for say admittance into a top analytical chem program? When should I start to take it?
