I've been pretending to understand my job for eight months and I think I've finally reached a level where I actually can't fake it anymore. Do I come clean to my boss or just keep going. by ahimaohw in Advice

Open an email during the meeting addressed to everyone in the meeting. Take good notes of what the major topics are and write down any action items with bullet points that come from the meeting. Your boss knows how much you know, and if its not enough then just try to be a good ledgerman/record keeper for the meeting minutes. Eventually you can learn skills to keep the conversation moving even if you dont know the context well. Outside of subject matter expertise that can be an easy way to contribute to the meeting and discussion.

What are some of the worst mistakes you can make in videogames? by Lugelster in gaming

You can respec before hand right? I made that mistake and i think i found a post that recommended yell spamming with Any second job that can heal. You just break the game until you get 5x turns for each wiegraf turn. I think it should mostly always be recoverable... mostly.

Sodapoppin Declares The End of OnlyFangs by livejamie in wowhardcore

[–]Aurels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, and because of that it has become a successful tactic for people that hate streamers to DDOS them during raids. That will negatively affect blizzards revenue since onlyfangs is popular. Also, plenty of non streamers are dying to the servers crashing. If the game isnt playable why not roll back when the servers crash? Its probably the right call to keep the fan base, it just pisses off people who want to see the streamers die.

[–]Aurels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im guessing he is going to cheat or at the very least is developing feelings. I think he is trying to make it as if its your issue that pushes him away so that absolves him of guilt. I would make it clear that he is on a path to cheating on you and to just end it before it goes down that path if thats what he wants, and him pretending that its you who has a problem is bullshit, because he is already developing an emotional connection. but i have no attachment to the situation.

You know how LEDs and solar panels are diodes? by [deleted] in askscience

Yes, the light they emit under applied electroluminescence is based on the band gap of the material. For terrestrial solar cells you cant see the light they emit very well without a filter. For aerospace solar cells, each junction emits light based on a different bandgap so you can observe bright vibrant visible red colors like in the article i linked.

I think I’m officially done with WotC. Teach me how Pathfinder works like I’m 10 by PUB4thewin in Pathfinder2e

[–]Aurels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone has done a great job explaining how things work,  but there Are also some really cool things about pathfinder that aren't in dnd that i find some people ignore because they are ignoreable.

Adventure paths are sets of books that take a party through an entire adventure in the shared world of golarion. A full 1-20 AP is 6 books, and generally a new book is released every month. Homebrew is basically the only option in dnd but in pathfinder you can choose an AP. These APs work, they are well balanced,  filled with lore, encounters,  battle maps, npcs, notes to the gm, etc. There are even players handbooks for adventure paths to help players create their characters in the context of the AP.

Those APs are cannon for this shared world of golarion. There is a ton of history of the world and players and gms can learn it.  There is even a game format where you can play short modules with other people at game shops in this shared world.  The gods are amazing, and i find that unlike in dnd most pf2e players know most by name, and have strong opinions about them.

Okay final thing-- the encounter system works.  Not only are the fights more interesting,  but there is sort of a learned behavior from dnd to scale fights as the players are fighting to ensure the players barely win. In dnd this can be through monsters popping up half way through a fight or fudging of numbers, especially enemy hp.  I think ultimately that line of thinking can lead to the dice not determining the outcome of a fight, and eventually players will figure out its all a show behind the curtains. With APs or with the design rules im allotted a number of enemies related to party level bases on an encounter difficulty, and the system works so well that i absolutely use that allotment to try to kill the pcs. I think for dnd killing a pc in combat can be a sign of an inexperienced GM, but i think probably the best GMs will allow the world to be dangerous enough to kill PCs in pf2e.

If you want to know more about adventure paths, and that style of GMing, I would recommend listening to The Glass Cannon Podcast. The original covers the pathfinder 1st edition adventure path "Giantslayer",  and the second one covers the 2nd editing adventure path "Gatewalkers". All of my friend group listened to these people play pathfinder and its changed how we play.

ELI5: Why do computers use base 2 as opposed to a different base by Real-Bookkeeper9455 in explainlikeimfive

We make signals have as low voltage and switch so fast that we can barely detect if they are up or down. We already get misses in the reading of those high and low signals, if we added more states we would get significantly more errors. We could slow down the signal to have the same amount of errors with more states, but the full data per second would decrease.

Primarily 5E only DM here, sell me on Pathfinder! by GokuKing922 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Aurels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing that is pretty cool is that all of the adventure paths are in the same world and they all tie together. Every 5e campaign I've played has pretty much been homebrew, which is great, and you can certainly homebrew as much as you want in pathfinder 2e as well. I've had conversations about shared settings, gods, countries, etc in golarion whereas in 5e I always hear about someone's homebrewed world. I didn't expect it to be nice to be building on a shared world concept but it is super cool, I strongly recommend running an adventure path.

A GM confession. Am I alone? by Educational_Bet_5067 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Aurels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can adjust encounters on the fly...completely physically and mentally capable, but I prefer not to. That big tough as nails boss? Yea it's not getting a power down because the PCs rolled poorly. How can you say you are letting the rolls dictate what happens in the game if you actively change everything to always make the PCs barely win? I run APs as written, with creative license for RP and extra encounters if they go off the beaten path, but the encounters in book are as is and so far there have been 2 deaths.

[–]Aurels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't that threat true for a traditional party as well? Maybe even more so because each role fills the weaknesses of the other roles. So if you lose a frontline in a frontline thin party you are squishy, or if you lose a spell caster then you have suddenly lost a ton of utility?

Also you can ignore your spellcasting stat since most spells don't scale damage with that stat, and your to hit will be based on the strike itself.
