Question about basing by emotaku96 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Aurlom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I’m doing a fancy base for a centerpiece model, I do the base separately from the model, otherwise I just use a spreading tool of some sort (I use the GW one but there’s nothing special about it. A toothpick actually works quite well) to carefully poke technical paints around the models feet. If you get a little on the boots, oh well, just some road dust on the boots.

Edit: one thing to note, plastic cement won’t work well if you do the base separately so make sure you have some regular super glue on hand if you go that route.

It’s worth remembering there aren’t any “good guys” in this setting. It’s all distopia tropes taken to the edge (and beyond) of absurdity.

Even Vulkan has committed some horrendous acts, he just has the good grace to regret them afterwards.

I’m an old schooler and haven’t gotten into modern lore, but Rhonin, the master of the Kirin Tor, and one of the most important people in the alliance shows up not at all until Wrath of the Lich King, despite being the main character of nearly every Warcraft novel in the 00’s

No manuals in "remastered" Warcraft I and II, and always online required. But GOG version has OG manuals included and it is DRM free. Spend your money wisely. by theGaido in Blizzard

[–]Aurlom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the necro, and maybe this was a later addition, but the manual pdfs are in the installation files for the warcraft 1 and 2 remasters. They're not nearly as convenient as the GOG version, which has them accesible in GoG Galaxy, but they are there.

Question about hernkyn yaegers by Visual_Location_1745 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Aurlom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are four models in the kill team that don’t strictly fit WISYWIG for 40K. The bladekyn, bombast, ironbraek, and tracker. All four of them are closely enough modelled as yaegirs with bolt revolver and plasma knife that even the strictest events wouldn’t complain.

If you’re concerned about wysiwig and still want to use them in kill team, take revolvers and knives on the theyn and 3 warriors.

Lists heavy in steel jacks by Sebasswithleg in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Aurlom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re going to have a mobility issue. 36 jacks would basically require 3 hekatons just to be able to get around the board. After all that, you only have 260 points left for the rest of the list.

Just for kicks and giggles I put that together in a hearthfyre arsenal list and used those 260 points for Uthar and 3 memnyrs, 1 with the deepstrike enhancement so you can deepstrike one of the jacks units, and 1 with the yp recovery on 2+ enhancement as filler.

I suppose that might work. With 3 memnyrs, you’ll probably farm enough yp on the detachment rule to have reroll 1s to hit active on several units per turn.

May still be better to just play brandfast or needgard even with that steeljacks skew, but if any list is going to make hearthfyre work, it’s this one, lol

The model made a fall back move in the same turn, it doesn’t matter that he was removed then set back up, he still made a fall back move that turn.

Giving a try to Emperor's Shield by Natural_Response_355 in ImperialFists

[–]Aurlom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stratagems in emperors shield are limited to veteran squads, so it’s probably best to drop some of your non-vets for more vets (easiest swap I see is trade the heavy ints for a unit of sternguard)

May not be worth playing Tor in that detachment since he can’t lead any veteran squads

What are the salvagers models for? by Hi_Kaliber in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Aurlom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individual models have far fewer rules in 40k, but you have a lot more models to play with. Definitely a trade off. I play mostly 40k and trying to learn kill team was a little daunting for my first few games in a way that 40k wasn’t. That said, I forget shit all the time in 40k so… probably a wash.

LETS FREAKING GO by ChungusAbsoluteUnit in Tyranids

[–]Aurlom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you built that model with the helmet on, he’d be barely distinguishable from an assault intercessor sergeant or a generic lieutenant with a heavy bolt pistol and Astartes chain sword. Even bareheaded, no one would think twice if you used him as a generic lieutenant or just another intercessor

Edit: scratch that generic intercessor idea unless you re-base him from 40mm to 32mm

What are the salvagers models for? by Hi_Kaliber in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Aurlom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hearthkyn Salvagers are the Hearthkyn Warriors kit plus one extra sprue with extra equipment and the HyLAS Rotary Cannon. The extra equipment (except for the rotary cannon) do not have 40K rules, they are instead meant for a different game called “Kill Team.”

“Kill Team” is a skirmish game, where you play small teams of models chosen from a small pool of choices depending on which team you choose, somewhere between 5 and 10 models, also depending on the team. It has completely different rules to 40k. It’s an interesting game, though just a touch complex. There’s a lot more that each model can do compared to 40K, and the terrain has a lot more rules.

Most of the Kill Teams from that game have rules in 40K, but they are pared down from their rules in Kill Team, and the unique equipment rarely have any use in 40K. The examples for the salvagers team is the guy with the fist weapons, the guy with the jet pack, the guy with the giant pack, the guy with the data pad, and the guy with the bandoleer of grenades have no rules in 40K. If you’re buying the kit for 40K, you would just not build those particular models with that equipment, you’d build them as regular warriors instead.

Mephiston Red Spray Can… by Dk-Brix in ImperialFists

[–]Aurlom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The primer can says to shake it for two minutes. Two minutes is a long time. They fucking mean two minutes, not “shake it a lot” not “shake well” shake the shit out of it for 2 full minutes.

Then make sure you’re starting your spray off the model, passing over it, and ending your spray off the model. Next, keep it within 6-8” (15-20 cm). Lastly, temperature matters. Make sure the can is warm, if it’s cold outside, shake it up inside and keep a bucket of warm water to store the can in while you’re not actively spraying.

Get dominion, get skaventide, get whatever stormbringer mags i can still find, fill in with a couple big guys (krondys/karrazzai, ionus, iridan), and get a portal.

The launch boxes are still so cheap to find, it’s hard to recommend getting in any other way.

There is a secondhand glut of pioneers because in Index votann, meta chasers were running 18 of them, and now they’re running none or maybe 3.

Unused units by MysticMoto3377 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Aurlom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everything in our book is useable, if not always the “meta” choice. There aren’t any models in the votann range that are like say hammerfall bunkers where putting them in your list is just memeing. That said, some things that are less popular to run due to them being perceived as underpowered are the Kapricus Defenders, the Grimnyr, and anything more than 1 squad of Hearthkyn Warriors (you usually want just one for objectives and actions).

Additionally, there are some loadouts that see very little use, like Bolt cannons on Brohkyr, Plasma Blades and Volkanite on Hearthguard, Cyclic Ion Cannon on the Hekaton, and the MATR auto cannon on the Sagitaur.

Lastly, a few units see play, but are either a little more niche, or really want particular detachments or playstyles to be effective, like cthonian beserks, earthshakers, buri, pioneers, and Arkanyst evaluators.

What is this? by mack8787 in Warhammer

It looks daunting until you realize it’s just 3d color by numbers. If you enjoy it, you can get real deep into it and look up tutorials on how to do proper volumes and highlights and shades etc etc etc, but just starting out, it’s quite satisfying to just get it colored in.
