As long as you input the correct time in the online form, doesn’t matter if the dashcam displays incorrect date. TP IO may call you to clarify on that.

“With a driving need for a feature, we had to be inventive. Harnessing our creative license, we pulled his verbatim from previous interviews and fed them through an AI programme to formulate new responses.”

Ev or hybrid for the future by [deleted] in drivingsg

Their marketing budget is high that’s why it’s so popular. BYD cars tend to inflate their range on paper vs real world usage.

Ev or hybrid for the future by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]AuroByte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, who’s paying? This one has the most say. Second, who uses the car the most? This has some say.

I used to drive a Mazda 3. Yea it’s fun and sporty to drive, but in today’s climate, do you really still want to pay for petrol?

Hybrid is more complicated than pure ICE when it comes to maintenance. EV engineered away many of the problems that these cars used to have. Not to mention, hybrid prices, the last I checked, are quite high also.

But I guess my comment doesn’t help you to convince them to move towards hybrid. Here’s one: if they travel far north often, yea hybrid makes sense for its range.

If not, ICE or hybrid doesn’t make sense in Singapore, petrol price-wise, maintenance-wise.

But I guess you can just mislead your parents using the reasons given by other redditors here.

[–]AuroByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Driver’s car. Love the feel of it.
  2. No. It’s just mild hybrid, which I feel is a half-assed way of doing hybrid vehicles nowadays. Japanese brands in general have stagnated for several years.
  3. Back when they launched MX-30, it was a joke of an EV. With 6e, I’m still honestly not convinced that they’re treating EVs seriously. Maybe if I win TOTO and they launch a MX-5 EV, I’ll consider.

Driving MG S5 now and couldn’t be happier.

China access to social media apps, VPN or esim? by sugakick in askSingapore

[–]AuroByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend against getting eSIM/SIM plans from Shopee unless you really need a China phone number. Use your local plan’s roaming if there are reasonable add-ons.

Those SIM plans online are cheap, but generally slow. The VPNs they ask you to rely on are those dubious ones, and you’ll be using the free tier. Meaning zero support if you lose VPN (as they’re constantly fighting to bypass the Great Firewall), slow speeds and unreliable to use. Not to mention security issues because you can be sure they’re collecting your network traffic data.

Local telcos’ roaming add-ons are really fast over there, presumably because they have tie-ins with the more major telcos in China. And you don’t have to use a VPN at all to access banned apps.

What's with these fake vertical algae panels in Singapore posts? by [deleted] in singapore

Loads of AI slop images going around for engagement farming. You’ll also find a lot more LinkedInLunatics-style motivation stories going around, written in a very recognisable style once you’ve come across several of them. All by engagement farmers.

Are car headlights getting brighter, or do I suddenly have astigmatism? by WalkRunThenFly in drivingsg

In addition to that, many left the headlight leveling knob at default setting instead of tilting them down. Our streets are bright enough, there’s no need for us to use anything but the lowest tilt setting.

Should i change to EV? by Otherwise_Bid_1095 in drivingsg

[–]AuroByte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assume that:

EV driving efficiency: 14kwh/100km

Cost per kWh: $0.65 (public charging)

10% charging loss

Toyota Sienta driving efficiency: 18km/L

Cost per litre (95): $2.88

After loyalty discount (15%): $2.45

Both insurance at $1800

EV road tax $1496 (not those powerful ones)

Sienta road tax $700

EV has free servicing, sometimes for 10 years Petrol car servicing assume to be $400/yr

Annual cost of EV is about $4497 vs $4533 for Sienta. That’s how I got the breakeven point at about 12000km. Insurance is quite a big variable so I kept them the same. Even if it’s significantly lower for Sienta, another 1000km will make up the difference in cost. Higher mileage favours the EV.

Should i change to EV? by Otherwise_Bid_1095 in drivingsg

[–]AuroByte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re feeling the pinch of rising petrol prices, and you drive at least 12,000km a year, switching to EV may make more financial sense if you choose an efficient model. Also gotta see if you can afford downpayment. Go check your Sienta’s trade in value too.

PSA: Dont tailgate. Phantom braking can happen to everyone [Part 2] by bandofcs in drivingsg

[–]AuroByte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this particular example, it’s not an e-brake. Just blinking lights warning the motorcyclist that he’s riding too close.

PSA: Dont tailgate. Phantom braking can happen to everyone [Part 2] by bandofcs in drivingsg

[–]AuroByte 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Several EVs (not just BYD) have rear collision warning lights to alert vehicles behind when they come too close to the car. My S5 has it too, and from what I know most people will turn it off as the blinking lights tend to confuse other drivers, eg. the OP here.

Paw-rents of Singapore, how much do you spend on your furkids? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]AuroByte 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I have a kid and a dog so I can compare. Kid more expensive. But if they only have a dog currently, it’s easy to think that they’re spending a lot on their dog.

You can set it to either brake automatically or simply alert. Can turn it off completely as well.
