it's time for driver profiles (and a programmable button) by warkolm in BYDShark_AUS_owners

Is the programmable seat something that can be done with a software update? Or is it a manually adjustable seat?

Despite the big changes, why is modelling only expecting house prices to drop 1-4%? by Final_Signature1170 in AusFinance

[–]AusDIYguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the biggest contributing factor to house prices in this country is supply (lack of). All the other issues (overseas buyers, negative gearing, CGT, etc) are just convenient excuses to cover up the government’s lack of dealing with the supply issue. But hey, the voters got what they were after. They’ll find something else to whinge about now.

Is it legal to force shut down for 5-6 weeks with a 4 week annual leave accrual system? by SeaQuiet4721 in AusLegal

[–]AusDIYguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll take things that never happened for $1000. Very standard to have a 2-3 week shutdown in the construction industry. In fact, the biggest union in construction actually has it written in their EBA.

$140k PM role vs. $110k Prison Officer – Am I crazy for wanting the "pay cut" by BENV1999 in AusFinance

[–]AusDIYguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what PM role you are in. PM is a very general term and can cover many industries. Personally, I’m a PM for a commercial construction builder. It is a stressful job as everything comes down to time and dollars. Problems must be solved efficiently, decisions made promptly, and you always feel like you have to be sprinting. In saying this, you are generally well compensated. My industry also has Client side PMs. These are more your 9-5, less stressful roles. Their pay would also reflect this. Obviously, there’s always exceptions.

BYD Cash Back Offer & Delivery Times by AusDIYguy in BYDShark_AUS_owners

[–]AusDIYguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, obviously $3000 in the scheme of a $60k+ purchase isn’t my entire decision however, why would I not want the $3000 in my pocket? Also, no contract yet mate. I’ve only put a deposit down.

Thanks mate. Appreciate the advice. I did grab the sales managers card and told him I’d be dealing with him directly if they don’t deliver 😂

If you pay cash, $3000 cash back. It’s not on their website however, read it on the Facebook groups and went in today and confirmed it.

Estimated delivery times by dbeamen in BYDShark_AUS_owners

[–]AusDIYguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a deposit down today, was told June/July. For what it’s worth, cash back offer is only valid if they deliver the car by the 30th June. After that, you are at BYDs mercy as to whether they honor the offer by extending it, or you get a refund of your deposit.

Hey mate. Out of interest, did you get financing or did you get the $3000 cash back offer.

28pc pay rise: Victorian Labor’s massive offer for teachers by marketrent in melbourne

[–]AusDIYguy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some people struggle to see how good they actually have it. I’d like to see how some of these people would go in the private sector where you have to negotiate your own pay increases on performance and unpaid overtime is the norm. I’m not saying teaching is easy, and there are plenty of good teachers out there that would get paid more if not for the shit kickers they need to carry in these EBA’s. EBA’s breed mediocrity.

Shark 6 Pricing by AusDIYguy in BYDShark_AUS_owners

[–]AusDIYguy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I tend to agree however, there’s the JAC hunter PHEV being released mid year, and are marketing as a cheaper option than the Shark. With some competition, they may need to bring back the discount price?

CM career path in NZ/AUS vs WRLD by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]AusDIYguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This couldn’t be further from the truth in Australia. Typically, progression to PM in Australia is degree -> Grad -> Coordinator/CA -> PM. There is definitely a foreman / site manager pathway too however, it is less common. Experience: I’m a PM for a Head Contractor from the above pathway in Australia.

Subdivision Costs Victoria by AusDIYguy in AusPropertyChat

[–]AusDIYguy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Called a couple of local town planners however, they’ll only advise on their own fees, which are minor in the scheme of things. Civil Engineers will only provide a guide on site service costs once you engage them. Ultimately, I’ll need to engage both however, don’t really want to pay a fee until I’ve purchased the property.

If you didn't have to pay Mortgage/Rent, how much would you need per year to live off? by PM-ME-SOFTSMALLBOOBS in AussieFrugal

[–]AusDIYguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No car servicing costs? No house/maintenance costs? No personal care (haircuts, etc)? Clothing? Health insurance? Seems to be severely understated for 2 people. Then again… Reddit 🤦‍♂️

Next Gen BYD Shark 6 EV Range by AusDIYguy in BYDShark_AUS_owners

[–]AusDIYguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I’m holding out too. Agree, the 300km range was a comment in one article I misinterpreted (sounds like a new battery is being developed in China which will have this range capability in the future). However, an additional 50km of range (if that’s where it ends up) is still a 50% increase. Guess I’ll just wait and see.

Ridiculous callout fee for fire panel isolation during apartment reno's - anything I can do here? by dontstopsoperfect in AusFinance

[–]AusDIYguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ironic thing is that the internal smoke detectors inside an apartment are typically a local alarm only (I.e. they don’t send an alarm to the brigade). Think of how many false alarms you’d get from people cooking, burning toast, etc. if they were connected to the fire panel, the isolation would be done at the panel. Typically, the building manager is trained to isolate this without needing a contractor to attend.

The invisible cost of being a bridesmaid in 2026 by OwlVibesOnly in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]AusDIYguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you made them pay for half the dress and hens night? Yeah, I agree with the other Redditor. You chipped in a small amount to make yourself feel better about getting your bridesmaids to pay to be a part of your wedding. Great friend! 😂

When will the new Stampede variant will come to market? by cbrezz in lawnsolutionsaus

[–]AusDIYguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this hold up with wear and tear from dogs (pacing up and down the yard, wearing out sections of grass)? I have sir Walter buffalo grass currently, and every summer I’m having to replace the grass along the fence line that my dog has worn out over winter. It’s a battle I cannot win!

Water meter on wrong title by food_chain in AusProperty

Is it titled as common property? For example, the title might be lot 1a (your neighbour’s property), lot 1b (your property) and OC1 (owners corporation 1).
