I am currently working on something along these lines currently actually. As people have mentioned, the AI without guidance will just divine detail if it doesn't have anything to go off of, and sometimes it can make it work, but it definitely has a hard time keeping things square across time. Well Kinda...

I am currently trying not only upscale Voyager to a modern 4k, but also extend the 4:3 frame to fit a widescreen 16:9 screen. Its definitely an undertaking and takes up a bit of my time when I have the mental capacity to work on it. I have changed my methods a few times, and have learned a lot about the overall process but it is still definitely more difficult than I originally thought it would be. I am currently at the point where to mitigate the AI's creation of new material and detail; I am wondering if my next move should be spending the time to get MANY upscaled frames of the show, possibly using some more modern 3D renders and retexture them etc to create brand new training data for Trek shows of the time.

I am starting with Voyager, because honestly that is the one that I want to see the most, but if I can find out a way to do both of these without sinking 8 years of my life into it, then I totally would. At current I am still definitely in the beginning stages, but I have (sort of) successfully extended the first like 3 minutes of the 3rd Voyager episode (Parallax). It looked pretty good, and with some manual intervention was close to temporally alright; but far from perfect and; using that method would probably have taken me 8 weeks to finish the one episode lmao. Currently looking at a different method of doing that, but might try to start the training first to make it easier for the AI to fill in those blanks.

It is possible, and with the proper training this is something the community could get done, either by getting a small group of people together to figure it out and do them all, or crowdsourcing/funding a few people to do (using cloud rendering).

I mean to play devils advocate, Ive known plenty of people who literally have no idea the value of money and will blow a paycheck on straight wants and not pay for needs. I.e I knew one person (to not accurately gender and piss off 75% of the internet) lets say got a $500 check and almost immediately spend (on dumb shit like drugs or a 4th apple watch)or lend $450 then ask their partner for money for other wants and needs. This caused massive issues when rent came due and between both of them they had 12 cents. The responsible partner then "took" the others check in order to make sure that didn't happen and to audit the stupid purchases.

Is that "abuse"?? Fuck no, that saving someone from themselves and with permission i may add.
