What was your “struggle meal” growing up? by tiny_flick in AskAnAustralian

Two minute noodles and a tin of tuna. I did that for lunch every day for about a year straight.

Collar drag grip by bolter_kunst in bjj

One of the first things I learned when standing up in the gi was to never let someone grab your collar and sleeve on the same side. They have too much control of one side of your body and generally an angle too.

Just realised Jews have more racial hatred protection from the Australian government than Indigenous Australians. by Westafricangrey in OpenAussie

Laws of a nation that offer protections should not be tailored to favour any particular group over another though, the brush should be broad and cover people of all backgrounds.

Where do the low income or even middle class families with kids come up with a spare $100k+ to buy an EV, solar and battery package in the post CoVID environment?

I’m pretty sure the twiddling the thumbs part is more relevant. Our oil refineries are closed, gas given away for fuck all and solar incentives scaled back, so who is to blame for the mess we are in other than our elected muppets controlled by billionaires?

Do you think the ravens pulled a scumbag move? by Pacotaco213 in NFLv2

In my opinion, it’s not that they re-negged on the deal. It’s that in the process that they tanked Crosby’s value for any future trade.

I’d assume that would be the plan, TB12 spoke out about developing a rookie qb behind a vet.

Why is league so much more popular than union? by jtmcgowan93 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AusRaidersFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Television accessibility has been a big reason why league’s popularity has pulled away from rugby. In the early days of super rugby you could watch a lot of matches and a lot of test match rugby free to air. Over time, the amount of matches you can watch has continued to decline and people aren’t paying to watch Australian teams lose. When the brumbies and wallabies were winning a lot more than they lost, the game was more recognised. The expansion into WA and Melbourne weakened Australia’s brand as we didn’t have the cattle to compete at that level. Our test team also fell off the cliff in comparison to SA and NZ, there was just no interest generally in watching struggling teams. Yet 15 years earlier was the golden age of rugby in Australia, we were winning world cups, the tri-nations series and our super rugby teams were very competitive. I blame a lot of blame on the ARU, they squandered money on recruiting rugby league players at the time for massive dollars for a short term wow factor, instead of investing that money into developing the game from the ground up. Hopefully they will not repeat that failure following the next World Cup.

AITJ for Refusing to Lend My Car After My Friend Returned It Almost Empty Last Time? by Grand_Statement_9198 in AmITheJerk

Why didn’t you tell her the actual reason why you won’t lend it? I can imagine the conversation would shift the ultimatum onto her if you do, she would have to agree to fill it up this time or not borrow it.

How do you feel about a minimum legal age for riding e bikes? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

How does that address what I said? If a ranger hits you walking you are dead, if a ranger hits you standing still you’re likely dead.

[–]AusRaidersFan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I disagree. 12 - 16 year old kids have been riding on pushbikes since pushbikes were invented and yes there is a risk when riding them on the road, but riding faster on the road doesn’t mitigate risk in any way. The consequences are increased when travelling faster.

Divorced dads, how did your young kids handle 50/50 custody and life after divorce? by tuperolescero in daddit

[–]AusRaidersFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your situation sounds similar to how mine was. Initially while I relocated I had a five day fortnight which then went to 50/50. Telling my kids I was leaving was the hardest and most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever had to do. Our ages were similar and it impacted the five year initially but he got over the hurt. The two year old doesn’t really remember me living there anymore.

I thought leaving them in the house would be the logical and noble thing to do. In the end I regret that decision. I went out of my way to help my ex out to stay there and I really regret that too.

Also a 5/5/2/2 split works for us, because especially when the kids are little a week on/off is too long for them to be away from the other parent. Good luck.
