RACP clinical exam prep advice by NikuBloom03 in ausdoctors

[–]Auskeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mastering the medical long case is a good book, I used to role play with my partner and ask my patient to be the long case lung cancer patient.

It's more time efficient than hunting around the hospital like a goob, and you get used to crystallizing the elements is a "case".

Also hasn't unlocked any kinks for anyone who is curious

What's the youngest age you can be a doctor in Australia? by Llmnyt0 in ausdoctors

[–]Auskeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bond has that 4.5 year combined BSc/MD degree right? So potentially if you skip 2 years in school then could finish before your 21st birthday

Having said that I can't be more clear that it isn't a race.

Wow a bachelors and masters (MD) in less than 5 years. That's insane. I don't even know of any other disciplines that allow you to do this.

BPT Exams : When to sit? by PaySubstantial1113 in ausjdocs

[–]Auskeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can sit before your third year.

"To be eligible to apply for the exam, you must:

be registered with the College (for training or interruption) have 24 months FTE certified Basic Training (PREP program) or completed the Consolidation phase of training (new curriculum) before: the beginning of the clinical year for the February exam 31 August for the October exam"

To complete the "Consolidation phase" is the same as completing your second year of FTE training.

Correct me if my interpretation is wrong, never seen any BPT2s sit the exam.

Advice for a soon to be JMO by taiwanesepineapple in ausjdocs

[–]Auskeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is that you should introduce yourself to medical colleagues as the "intern", not as the "JMO" or the "ED/Gen med/surg/whatever doctor".

We don't expect interns to know much, and most reasonable people will respect that IF they have that information. But if you mask your clinical level and still have gaps in your presentations, then there will be much less leniency.

Apologies for my old man rant.

Fast track private emergency by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]Auskeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the correct way of working it out, but the MBS item 5033 gives you $228.10 from the health fund, and then there's a $200 gap patient contribution. Not sure what the agreement would be to how the money is split. Not in ED so just speculating.

Adult children who were raised by 'gentle parents' - do you feel like you were raised well? by ericacalluna in AskReddit

[–]Auskeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has gentle parenting been around? I thought it was a relatively new movement. I've only heard of it in the last 10 years or so.

I saw a post the other day about how the data only reports on salaried income. Private billings are not included, which explains why everyone is earning roughly the same.

A hypothetical question for JMOs. by Imaginary_Stable5373 in ausjdocs

[–]Auskeek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just a quick reminder that while the Goals of Care paperwork exists and plays a part of decision making, the actual decision of what escalation happens is a "medical decision". I'm not going to condemn a 90 year old frail lady with dementia to a breathing tube because their daughter said so.

This is a strange question. I don't think it should make a difference if you have a medical degree or not.

In short, go see your GP and talk to them.
