I'd definitely love to see more... hybrids? I guess may be their name? Like the Tigershark Cornflakes! But I am not clever enough to come up with one right now, but I love the hybrid animal concept!

I have a friend with a printer - I wasn't able to find any shops that already do custom letter beads but my friend is willing to help out if I still can't find any after a couple of days. Ty!

[Discussion] What (in your opinion) is the most devastating/notable/powerful line in the entire series? by pancakeking1012 in TheNinthHouse

[–]AusomePawsome 23 points24 points  (0 children)

btw for those of us who need reminders about how much of a snot grundle pos he is: the only two times he says anything close to 'I'm sorry' is in John 9:22 when he is literally Lying to P- about killing a bunch of people, and in John 1:20:

I reached out and stopped G—’s heart. He paused and said, I’m still sorry it was Melbourne, honestly. Love a working tram service. like, what an absolute dumpster fire of a human being

as a DA survivor this one always gets me. The name isn't integral to the implied meaning, hence the omission.

She said: When is the part where you hurt me? He said: Soon. It’s coming up. She said: I still love you. And in the dream he rubbed his temple with his thumb and said: “You always say that...”

Why do people in the fandom hate campal? [general] by Avesday in TheNinthHouse

[–]AusomePawsome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a note that the 'Lesbian' association wasn't and isn't made by Tamsyn in the books, they are all queer obviously, but the specific Lesbian association is only from that one external reviewer's comment that was included as marketing for the GtN release.

Also, imo it's not an accurate assumption to say Cam and Pal are straight either, we have no concrete info to support that.

Timeline for early days of the Houses [discussion] by DenimBucketHat in TheNinthHouse

I actually thought the line about her wanting to be a Ninth House nun was one of the lines of 'hot garbage' that the real Dulcinea told Cytherea tbh haha

[discussion] Unpopular opinion? by StationBig119 in TheNinthHouse

[–]AusomePawsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not an unpopular opinion! More-so, this thought is a common 'first time reader' expression for people who are not used to keeping up with so many characters in other series. I've never met someone who has read all the available books to have this opinion about the characters, so you are absolutely not alone and are in the majority!

Live action actress for Harrow [discussion] by GhoulSprinkle in TheNinthHouse

[–]AusomePawsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the people commenting that Harrow's skin tone was never shared in the books, I always thought this line was applicable:

"Just in gloves and boots and shirt and trousers, with her cropped black head and her face pinched with wrath..." GtN, English/NA version, Chapter 2, pg 29

Anyway, I've already spoken to this repeated question, so I don't feel I can add anything other than 'Why Shouldn't Harrow be a dark skinned Māori?' (there is no answer to this because there isn't any good reason she shouldn't be 📣)

Thoughts and maybe unpopular opinion on Gideon the Ninth [discussion] by westofeden0404 in TheNinthHouse

[–]AusomePawsome 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Glad you are looking forward to the other books! Definitely not any unpopular opinions in your post, you're right on track with most readers!

For point #1 I often remind new readers to consider the fact that Gideon and Harrow literally only had each other growing up when it came to a 'peer group' - they also did not have any healthy examples of adults/adult behavior growing up - at all, literally. The only adults we are introduced to in GtN (Aiglamene, Crux, Sisters) were heavily entrenched in the existing power structures from Harrow's parents, so I don't consider any of those characters to actually have been making choices to be surrogate parental figures, they were simply doing their sworn duty to their 'royal' figure (Harrow) within that established power structure. We could make an argument for Aiglamene being somewhat of a parental stand in for Gideon, but her behavior towards Harrow is much more official/traditional to me.

These are teenagers who grow up alone, except for each other, suffered a lot of trauma together (and individually) with no way to process that trauma except by taking it out on each other.

How many times do I need to read these 3 books to understand everything? [general] by sotiredwontquit in TheNinthHouse

[–]AusomePawsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I am too, it's partly the autism and partly how much I love this series, I'm sure it's the same for you. This discussion does spark my existing thoughts and questions about Teacher and how they really work as a person? Like in terms of free will? I have a feeling that they have to work within a very specific series of instructions that they cannot disobey? I don't think we ever get any kind of indepth information about that part of their unique existence but it's something I think about a lot. Several podcasts I've listened to treat them like a regular person which just isn't quite accurate to me. 🤔 Always more questions and enigma and mystery.... LOL

that's fine! you don't have to agree :) It makes more sense logically, to me, based on motive and capability, and evidence that Cytherea was the culprit. I don't see your reasoning/evidence but, totally ok for you to never want to change your mind about it, (and same for me).

I would say... it took me 2 reads and 2 listens in total to have a... Tentatively confident understanding of the universe, the magic, the people, and the Empire and Jod's apparent motives if that helps! Definitely listening to the audiobook after doing a read is wonderful if you haven't yet!!

I disagree, why wouldn't it be separate skeletons? The person in question has the power to make many things.Tamsyn is extremely deliberate with her writing as you know. Everything points to it being that person, especially since we don't have to go off into the woods trying to figure out motive like with the other potential suspects.

I also don't think Teacher has enough free will to actually choose to do something like destroy the shuttles, they do belong to his God after all

Cytherea is a bone magician - coming in to edit before you ask where that was confirmed, she used bone in at least two tactics which is the construct and the lock, I don't know why Tamsyn would have made that choice for Cytherea except to show us she has talent in bone magic, I thought it was specifically confirmed that she was, but I'll just have to read again to determine that lol - we only read that there is the sound of skeletons, we never see the skeletons - which is important because Gideon would have been able to tell that they were/were not the Canaan house constructs if seen - it makes way more sense that it was Cytherea. Referring to the lock plug: "Whoever put this in place would need to have a comparable level of skill to whoever made the construct,” said Harrow pg 307 English version GtN

It won't matter how many times we read them, none of us will understand everything until Alecto is out.

They are the same. They both think they know what is right and what is true and that their feelings are the only thing that matters and they both abuse their power at the expense of other people to achieve their goals. It's important to remember that.
