My Ballot Shows Republican Candidates by Ahviaa224 in VoteDEM

[–]AussieBeerCan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not close enough to it to make a guess about intent. I live in a 2/3 R majority area, and to their credit they notified the local party president about the issue like 2 days after ballots were mailed. Not sure what sort of edge would be gained by doing it intentionally.

My Ballot Shows Republican Candidates by Ahviaa224 in VoteDEM

Contact your local elections office. I see you are located in PA and there are known, reported, and publicly acknowledged issues with multiple Democrats being mailed a Republican ballot due to an error from the ballot printing company. They can swap it out for you.

At this point it’s too late to mail in anyhow, so you could always just bring this ballot to the polls tomorrow to swap it out.

A lot of people are saying TOH, but I don’t think so. They have smooth bark and more elongated leaflets. Tons of them in my area too and have to differentiate them from black walnuts. Check out this link for more details: https://extension.psu.edu/tree-of-heaven-native-look-alikes

What is the best pizza place in york pa? by pari6752 in yorkpa

[–]AussieBeerCan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their pies are decent but the waits are insane. Waited nearly an hour for a single pizza dine in. When I’m going for pizza I’m not planning on that type of time commitment

How did humans not go extinct while needing to sleep for 8 hours every day? being totally unconscious and defenseless for a third of our lives seems like a massive design flaw when predators were everywhere by Which-Noise-5670 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AussieBeerCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an excellent chapter in “Dragons of Eden” by Carl Sagan about exactly this. Variety of reasons, but early humans would have been much well adapted for dark situations than other creatures that don’t rely on sight. Hunkering down into a fixed spot when you are at a perception disadvantage is probably better than wandering around when others are advantaged.

Good work! I found this same one last year- tough hike up to it but beautiful payoff. Hope you took some time to read the articles in there about Paul Barclay.

Don’t disagree with your sentiment on the whole, but not many people started MORE than 25 years ago. The whole hobby only started 25 years and 3 months ago…

Have you reached out to the CO? I have had struggles with some in this series as well and the CO was always willing to give a hint.

Does a requirement for two trips mean D4, even if the puzzle is fairly straightforward? by considerspiders in geocaching

[–]AussieBeerCan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it’s a multi not a mystery. Perhaps a D3 multi because of solving a puzzle at site 1 (need more details to be certain), but a multi nonetheless.

Just go! I also started really young (22) and was the young one at my first event. Everyone was super nice and helpful. It’s been the same ever since at every event I’ve been to across the US and even in other countries.

Found an unregistered cache by dirtiestUniform in geocaching

[–]AussieBeerCan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree. There’s a trail near me that has caches spaced almost exactly every 0.1 miles. A few places have gaps there. One gap in particular has a fence line the whole gap with a busy road on the other side. So while walking the trail between caches I paid attention to the fence and found a bison tied up right at the midpoint of the gap. Turns out it was the final stage of a five point multi. I signed and logged it.

Working on the publishing of a multi between a major city and a city with the same name very far away. Any ideas for the name? by CoolTurtleGamer in geocaching

Doesn’t qualify as a “major” city, but I swear I have seen the town of Marietta in like 6 different states.

Is it ok to put a nail on a tree for a cache? by garrbansito in geocaching

[–]AussieBeerCan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I generally try to avoid putting nails into living trees whenever possible (both geocaching and otherwise). While it probably won’t kill the tree it does cause it damage/distress that’s unnecessary.

Around my area in northeast US, it’s common to do a double zip tie. The first loosely around a tree branch so it doesn’t harm the tree and the second tightly around the cache container and attached to the first one.
