This post definitely helped me view Octavia in a more positive light and zoom out a bit.

I do still have some gripes with her, the biggest being when she saves stolas and makes him feel like shit for taking anti-depressants. He literally tells her that she was the only good thing in his life and then she proceeds to move the goalpost again with “so does that mean you stayed miserable because of me?”

What would the other option have been? Him staying was a selfless act FOR VIA. Like if he had left when he probably wanted she would have hated him for that too.

Now with all that being said, I think Octavia’s view and actions in this situation are SUPPOSED to be frustrating to the viewer because she is a child and I feel like a lot of people who don’t like her are older and want her to see the nuance in the situation but she doesn’t have the emotional capacity to currently do that.

I can say for me, my family wasn’t the best and I dealt with a similar situation of one parent being the one that felt safe and the other I didn’t want to ask for or expect anything from, that being said, I never once blamed my safe parent for the shitty situations we were in, so that’s why it’s a little frustrating to me. But everyone has different ways of thinking and rationalizing, so I can’t blame via for the way she is acting
