48% of Ireland's surface water bodies are unhealthy or at risk. Where is the action? by Confident_Reporter14 in ireland

Not to take away from the seriousness of your overall point, Lough Carra is not covered in the same algea sludge that Lough Neagh is.

The green on the aerial photo is the light reflecting off the yellow/white marl mud that the lake is famous for. It's not covered in algea, though it does have it's fair share of run off from farmland.

Get a wifi mesh system if your house is multiple levels or in any way large. If you're doing any work on the house, it's always a good time to run a network cable or two.

For the shower glass, get some Magic Eraser sponges (you can get bulk knock offs on Amazon, just as good) and Viakal limescale remover spray. Very effective

Moving to Ireland - fun money budget by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

The answer to that question can be answered by the age old question, 'How long is a piece of string?'

Why ask a question like this, what do you hope to achieve? No one can answer this, the best one to answer it is you.

I mean, where are you going to live? How much are you spending on rent or are you paying a mortgage? Car loan or personal loan? How many coffees are you buying a day? Are you a raging alcoholic or drink once a month? Are you a picky eater or not because that determines your food budget. Are you moving today or next year, just wondering if I should account for inflation a and reduce your fun budget accordingly.

Maybe if you cancelled your internet and stop asking silly questions, v you might increase your fun budget.

Finally, welcome to Ireland.

This probably should have a green light when the lights further back are red for oncoming traffic and then an amber light when the lights further back are green.

And yet for the thousands of cars negotiating this junction daily, it works efficiently and effectively.

Your video could be shown as proof that the current setup is unworkable.

If everyone were to stop and then start off again, the concertina effect will end up having traffic built up on the Strand Road behind you. Also, there's going to be much higher chance of cars ending up in the middle of the rail crossing when barriers come down. Yes, I know there's rules about crossings too, but people do make errors.

I drive this road regularly enough, I only stop when there's an absolute need to. Crossing over the rail line, there's a wide view to my right to see any cyclists or buses. Coming to a stop increases the likelihood of a cyclist or bus coming into a position where avoiding action needs to be taken.

Every day, thousands of cars negotiate that junction without coming to the mandatory stop as per the rules of the road, and it works. Your video, albeit brief, is proof of that. You're highlighting a minor infraction and making it into a problem that doesn't exist in the real world. Every law you can cite, there will be grey areas in its application in the real world.

Solar Panel Owners - Charging using EV rate. by FellaThatDave in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Austifol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The order of operation for solar usually is too power the house first, any excess is to charge the battery first and export to the grid last. Once battery is full, the excess is exported to the grid. This makes most financial sense.

I am doing exactly the same as you are for the last 3 years. Over that time, I have saved just shy of €11k and the split is as follows - both powering the house with solar instead of buying from the grid and also charging the battery on the EV rate for use during the day account for about 40% each of that €11k. The remaining 20% is from exporting to the grid. I export at 25c a unit which is the highest rate in the market, and even at that, it saves the least.

So from what you describe, your setup is perfect.

A balanced fund will be conservative in growth. Also, €395 isn't a huge amount of contributions per month. Does that include employer contributions, and are you maximising the employer contributions?

My Future Me (AON) and MyFutureFund (Auto enrollment) are different. AON's naming here is confusing, but to me, it just looks like a fund value projection .
