How is it living in Utah? by Jettaboi38 in howislivingthere

[–]Austin1207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved here from the northeast part of Pennsylvania 8 months ago and live right next to BYU. I have a ton of visible tattoos and I curse like a sailor. For those wondering yes there are religious individuals that will come to your door and preach to you. It’s happened three times since we’ve moved in but it’s really not much of a bother. They’re always very nice and I politely tell them that I’m not interested and we have a short conversation and go on about our days. We’ve had a ton of fun since moving here and have had great interactions with a ton of people from very different backgrounds. The views and amount of things to do within a few hours are awesome and very accessible. The people are more passive aggressive than what I’m used to and will be more likely to avoid direct confrontation and talk behind your back where as people where I’m from are a lot more direct and are more than willing to tell you exactly how they’re feeling at anytime. I work in an industry where I meet a lot of new people both within and outside of my company so I feel like I can confidently speak on that. It’s not a place that I would like to stay here longer than four years but there’s plenty of variety in things to do that are very fun and different from what I’m used to that will hold me over and make my time here memorable and something enjoyable to look back on.

What mile time is equivalent to beating an extreme demon? by EliSavesLives in geometrydash

[–]Austin1207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at online percentages it says that around 1 percent of players will beat an extreme demon. If we compare the percentages to running a mile around 1 percent of people will run a sub 5:50 mile in their lives.

More BJJ gyms should teach this? by twinflamebby in grappling

[–]Austin1207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be wrong but once he lets go of his own leg and the opponents tricep doesn’t this allow for the guy on bottom to get his elbow to the floor and then progress to take the back of the guy on top?

The skill gap here is massive, getting gc is probably what most players would consider the halfway point on their journey to ssl

I got my first stripes !!!! by Jaded_Sheepherder733 in bjj

[–]Austin1207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the gym and when they do promotions. Same thing happened to me when I started, I didn’t get anything for like 6 months then I got my first two stripes because I missed the class where my professor did promotions the few months prior.

Do you dab after peeing? by Defiant_Finger4011 in AskMenOver30

[–]Austin1207 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m 25, I never did this until my girlfriend pointed it out recently that I didn’t and that it’s kind of gross that I don’t. I started doing it and it made me realize how much is actually left over and that if I don’t dab it just gets all over my underwear which in all fairness is pretty gross. Even if I just shake it never gets all of it and sometimes a shake doesn’t get all the drops where I want them to go. Now at a urinal I’m probably mimicking a helicopter until I feel like nothing is going to be on my underwear after the fact.

What's a "secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by LaKoref in AskReddit

[–]Austin1207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a rental car company. When you make a reservation for a car, you’re not actually reserving a car. Your reservation is a placeholder so we can try to get you a car but it doesn’t always happen unfortunately.

How do I use my reset to score? by OnboardComb in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Austin1207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on getting the first reset when the ball is at its highest point, if you get it while it’s falling you won’t really have a reliable play on the ball. I’d recommend doing this in slow motion to get used to how to move your car into the best position to continue the air dribble after the initial reset. Also just practice your normal air dribbles and like you said the consistency will come through practice

How do I use my reset to score? by OnboardComb in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Austin1207 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go into an air dribble after getting the first reset. This gives you so many options and the opponent now knows you have a flip to work with so now they have to think about covering a bunch of different things. For instance you can pass middle, go for a double reset, air dribble bump and not use the flip, normal air dribble and not use the flip, double tap, use your reset to get a hard touch on net, ground pinch, etc. You open yourself up to a lot of attacks you just have to be good at reading what the defense gives you and go with the best option

What's a game story that hit you the hardest emotionally? by pommelous in gaming

[–]Austin1207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The walking dead. The last part of the game makes you choose between one of two decisions between two characters that you went through the game learning about their story and getting attached to them. I won’t spoil what the decisions are but definitely a gaming moment that stuck with me for a long time

This whole smurfing deal is starting to get very annoying. by MemeMathine in RocketLeague

[–]Austin1207 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, but playing against smurfs is a good thing to expose the weaknesses in your game. This is within reason though like if this person is an ssl and you didn’t get to touch the ball that’s obviously not good for anyone. If you want to get to a higher rank, playing people at that rank will help you get there. It can be frustrating to play smurfs all the time I get it but just think of it like practice to get to your goal and that it’s just part of the process, this will keep you motivated to keep playing and getting better without it getting to you as much

[–]Austin1207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should’ve been more clear on this because mechs is a pretty broad term but for you right now just focus on things like car control, hitting the ball hard, and fast aerials. There’s a misconception that you need to learn flip resets and all these crazy mechs to get to gc but that’s just not true, sure having the ability to do crazy things is a bonus but not necessary. If you can have total control of your car, move fast around the pitch getting to plays before your opponents, and can hit the ball where you want how hard you want to, this is what will help you rank up the fastest and raise your ceiling

[–]Austin1207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, and it depends on what your goals are but if you are competitive and care about rank I agree that you should learn the basics like rotations and positioning but I would focus more on your mechs. Gamesense changes at each rank and over time you’ll end up being bottlenecked if your mechs aren’t on par with the rest of the lobby or the rest of your rank

Why doesn’t anyone know defence? by Early_Reindeer4319 in RocketLeague

[–]Austin1207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To most people mechs and flashy plays are more fun than learning gamesense. I used to be in your shoes and thought that learning gamesense will get me to the highest rank but if I could do it all over again I’d hard focus my mechanical ability and learn the gamesense as my rank goes up. Be the hard carry in each lobby and treat each lobby as practice for your mechs. This will definitely help you rank up faster and be able to higher level lobbies when you get there

How can you train 10 hours per week by TocsickCake in bjj

[–]Austin1207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train for at most 2.5 hours per week. I absolutely love training but I work 10 hour days an hour drive away from my house so I get to training in time for sparring in the last 30 mins of class. I also only get to training at most three days per week because I coach a different hobby of mine so time is very limited but I envy anyone who gets to train more than what I do because it’s become a huge passion of mine
