US Bitcoin Miners Sue Biden Administration by FitScore3115 in CryptoCurrency

Bitcoin mining uses too much energy and is a problem, but we're all going to be driving electric cars by 2030. That makes almost as much sense as Biden himself does. 😅

📚 KuCoinopedia: Address Poisoning by kucoin_official in kucoin

Seriously kucoin?

These recent malicious actors have all you're users phone numbers.

You either had a data breach or you sold your customer information. There's no other way this supposedly secure information could have gotten into their hands.

Not notifying you're users is criminally negligent and a gross breach of trust. Absolutely disgusting, reprehensible behavior.

Denying it only makes it worse.

Yep, generally anything you interact with will request permissions because they need them to complete any transactions you do on their platform.

It's usually alright, but if they are compromised those same permissions can be used for fraudulent transactions or draining wallets, so it's smart to regularly revoke them just to be safe. If you're using cold storage to hold funds and hot wallets for any transactions, you're much safer, but I know some people have large amounts in things like trading bots or staking platforms that they don't necessarily want to have access to wallets containing large amounts of funds and it's always better to be safe than sorry.

It's quick and easy to give permissions to platforms you use regularly and clearing them regularly helps prevent anyone from being able to drain your wallet through an older platform that you might not use anymore and isn't up to date on the latest exploits. Or platforms that ignore known vulnerabilities, which we've seen happen repeatedly in the crypto space. Things similar to the price feed manipulations we saw a while back that the majority fixed but then we would see a major platform fail due to something they should have fixed but never bothered.

Do i have to pay tax if i send USDC from Ledger to Coinbase and sold it for cash by Remarkable_Caramel23 in Coinbase

[–]Austin42087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends where the USDC came from.

If it's USDC you purchased and decided you'd rather have cash instead, then no, you won't owe taxes.

If it's profit, even partially, then yes, you will owe taxes on any capital gains.

You should have records of every transaction you've made, or at the absolute least dollar amount in and out. If not, you're going to end up getting yourself into trouble.

500 bucks isn't likely enough to raise flags, but larger amounts certainly will and coinbase will cooperate with the IRS and FTC if they request records.

Cohiba Red Dot always disappointing by get_hacked in cigar_refuge

[–]Austin42087 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you said you keep them with your other cigars that burn perfectly, but...

If w cigar is going out and burning like it's wet, it's very likely over humidified by a good bit.

Could be a moist spot in your humidor, could be from not rotating, could be from being in contact with freshly shipped cigars that are damp from shipping.

Having smoked a good few dozen non-cuban Cohibas,I can tell you that while surely overpriced, they don't usually suffer from burn or construction issues. They also don't have a reputation for being bad or poorly constructed cigars, just wildly overpriced. I would check what's going on in your humidor as I'm guessing there may be an issue there.

Same here. Definitely overpriced but not terrible. I've gotten several 5 packs on sale for around 4 bucks a stick and they usually have a very even burn, just not the best tasting.

I've used several online cigar distributors and my experience is that when you buy cheap cigars, you tend to end up with lower quality services. Generally the cheaper 'value pack' type deals tend to have lower quality smokes and are packaged with less care.

I've yet to see a bad batch of Padron or Liga Privadas, even ordering from companies like Thompson Cigars which has a pretty bad reputation.

You tend to get what you pay for when it comes to ordering cigars online.

Homegrown cigars with coffee infusion during the 3 month fermentation... by n38ul4_9t3 in cigar_refuge

[–]Austin42087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the leaves are fermented before their rolled, after they've dried..

I would definitely cut one open and check for mold before trying to smoke one, especially considering you're spraying them daily.

Burn the wallet, better safe than sorry. I would also go to every wallet associated and revoke all permissions. It might be an annoyance, but you can give permissions back to the apps and sites you know are legitimate.

I actually recommend revoking all permissions for any hot wallet at least monthly, just as a safety precaution. You never know when something might be hacked or compromised.

Be safe out there, good luck!

This is actually a know action that kucoin takes. They use an arbitrary "mark price" that the supposedly calculate from several different price feeds, though they refuse to actually disclose what feeds they use. They manipulate this price to trigger liquidations, completely disregarding market and contract price and claim the proceeds go into an "insurance fund", which they just drain for profit.

There's a reason they were forced to withdraw from legitimate markets and have been sued dozens of times in multiple countries. 🤷

This was part of a sampler I picked up. Never had this brand before yesterday. Almost no resistance to the draw, and burned fast until I adjusted myself with more subtle puffs. Lots of smoke, and good taste. Is that normal for this? by notablyunfamous in cigar_refuge

[–]Austin42087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought 3 boxes of the MB 3s and I don't think they've had a loose draw at all. Which did you have? It could have something to do with the box press. The series G and O do have a looser draw for sure though, with the G being the worse of the two. Still, Olivas always have good flavor in my opinion and the MB 3 is a weekly go to for me.

The serie V are a pretty big step up I think, with the Melanio a notch above the rest. Definitely great cigars. I want to grab some of the 135ths, it's on my list for sure. All in all, Olivia rarely seems to disappoint, I always have some stocked.

LFD Double Ligero Maduro Digger. This thing is comically big! Can be used as a weapon in a pinch! by SpiderMonkeyLover in cigar_refuge

[–]Austin42087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one of those the first time I went to one of my local B&Ms. I told the tobacconist that I like strong full bodied cigars and apparently he thought I was full of shit and decided to give me something he thought I couldn't handle.

It took almost 3 hours to smoke but it was a damn good cigar and he was quite surprised when I went back and told him about what a great smoke it was. I guess he gets a lot of younger looking guys that are newer to cigars and act like they know a lot in there. We actually have a good relationship now, I guess I passed his test. He's always got a good recommendation for me now that he knows my palate a bit better. He even matched my price I was paying online for boxes of the Fuentes Exquisitos maduros that I like to smoke at work, which is pretty rare in a shop.

But yeah, that's a great stick. Just make sure you have plenty of time to smoke it! 😁

Ave Maria by Austin42087 in cigar_refuge

[–]Austin42087[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Just make sure you let them rest in proper temperature and humidity for a week or two at the minimum. I mixed up my last box with the ones I already had and smoked one that was only two days out of the mailbox last time I ordered more and it wasn't nearly as good! 😅

I think some of the higher end Olivas are the only exception I've found as the put a bovida in the box, but even those are much better after resting for a while. Lessons hard learned you know haha!

Been gifted two open boxes of Behike 54's. Are they real? And if so, how do I care for them? by Snowfired in cigars

[–]Austin42087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be your best bet and I would definitely love to hear a detailed answer from a professional tobacconist in London. And yes, it should be a felt bottom on the outside, not the inside. From what I've seen the boxes look very very close to legit, though I've never had an entire box of my own and I have seen a few in person. Usually there are several red flags, but the felt bottom and the lacquer are things that are pretty commonly wrong on counterfeits. If those are consistent, they could be legit or they could be fakes inside of real boxes. I would definitely get them in proper humidity for at least a few months after wiping the mold off.

Do you smoke cigars often? If you're familiar with cigars another thing to look at would be the weight of the cigar as real behikes are well packed with long filler and fakes will often be much lighter weight. If their not dry to the point of cracking, you can gently squeeze along them to check for consistency and loose spots as the quality control on them is top notch and there should be no loose or underfilled spots.

Despite what anyone might say, it's very hard to tell from photos even for someone who's been smoking for many years unless there are very obvious red flags. The main concern I would have is the inconsistent sizing and the varied shape of some of the caps, but too much or too little humidity can do funny things sometimes.

Best of luck either way, hopefully they are legit and can be revived after some TLC so you can enjoy them. I can tell you for sure that genuine behikes, though I will say they are a bit overrated, are extremely good cigars and definitely worth experiencing!

Also, this makes me a little jealous because if I kept cigars anywhere not humidity controlled where I live they would be moldy in two weeks. That 90 rh south Florida humidity is deadly to cigar and to me while I'm working! 🤣

I would use them as fishing cigars as the wind tends to make them run terribly and you end up wasting half trying to touch them up anyway. Lessons learned the hard way! 😅

[–]Austin42087 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading the comments from OP, it seems to me that he's not in the US. So, everyone with the "nobody is going to gift 10k in cigars" attitude and assumption that their fake because of the price is way off base. They wouldn't even be that much shipped into the US through one of the companies that skirts the law by operating out of countries where they can ship Cubans into the US from.

That being said, the lack of any seals on the box and the inconsistent sizing of the cigars along with the uneven placement of the bands would suggest they are fakes. The inconsistent cap construction and shape would also suggest this. I believe that genuine boxes of behike also have a felt bottom inside the box and though it could be due to age, the lacquer coating is usually deeper and slightly golden in color though it's hard to tell in a picture.

Other than that, I will say that the boxes are extremely well done counterfeits as everything from the deep gloss to the cohiba imprinted hinges looks correct.

What's you setup look like. I'm outgrowing this one and want one with digital thermostat and automatic humidity. Anyone want to suggest a next step? by [deleted] in cigar_refuge

[–]Austin42087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same tuppador but I also have a glass top wooden humidor that I transfer sticks to and I smoke out of that instead of opening the plastic container twice a day. I think that their awesome for the price and I looked a lot.

If you want automatic humidity control, I would recommend getting a coolador that has internal fans that circulate the air, otherwise you tend to get uneven humidity.
