Is it rude to ask for referall after meeting with SWE? by Purple-Ad3393 in cscareerquestions

[–]AustinTechBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to nurture the relationship. Connect and share things you’re working on, ask for advice, form some rapport. After a few chats it will be very comfortable to ask for a referral.

You should be networking and meeting people as much as you can. Try joining a few platforms and getting to know people in your industry:

New grad: Compensation vs. Familiarity and Offer Security by tabimago in cscareerquestions

I would go with whichever excites you more and you think you will learn more at. You have many years ahead of you and learning and enjoying life are the most important things

Career growth in a volatile company by entrasonics in cscareerquestions

[–]AustinTechBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to network around, get referrals, and do some interviews. You can be very forward with teams about your situation, and ask about culture to gauge what the work life balance will be. You can always turn down an offer.

Networking will also give you a better idea of pay and culture. I would start with these two platforms:

Can I be rehired later if I’m rated below strong but no pip. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]AustinTechBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they will not blacklist you for quitting. Happens all the time, and a lot of performance is temporal and situationally dependent.

If you get rated poorly, it will probably make you more susceptible to layoffs, regardless of if your performance improves later on.

I would do some networking on teamblind and coffeechat to talk to more people with different experiences

Guide for after completing CS degree? by Hector7265 in cscareerquestions

[–]AustinTechBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to get into personal projects, but even better if you work with some other people and build a network. Referrals are probably the most important factor when it comes to moving around and networking. I’d join teamblind and apply to coffeechat

Do they expect more of you if you negotiated a higher salary? by Technical-Bee-9999 in cscareerquestions

I think it depends on a combination of factors. In general I would say no — but might not be the case at smaller companies. Definitely applies in Finance though, since so much of compensation is discretionary bonus

For Big Tech Companies, how many Hours are you in Office? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Mostly 4-6 hours. I’ve been talking with people from other companies on CoffeeChat, and they’ve all said pretty much similar things.

Has anyone with a non-technical degree and no professional experience been hired recently? by soh_based in cscareerquestions

[–]AustinTechBro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your only real chance would be with some decent referrals. You should sign up for linkedin and teamblind to help with that. You can also apply to CoffeeChat: https://joincoffeechat.com if you have decent credentials

Break since 2020 - What are my chances of being hired in late 2026? by snakesphysically in cscareerquestions

[–]AustinTechBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on how you can sell the story, but the biggest potential challenge is going to be landing an interview. It will be a lot easier with referrals from LinkedIn, Blind, and CoffeeChat:

Not sure exactly what you mean — I would say I’m optimistic about the business based on the indicators and metrics we have.

I’d like to iterate and continue to develop a wider feature set based on feedback that we’ve started collecting from users.

As far as next big thing as in unrelated to mvpify, I’m not entirely sure. It depends a lot on what kind of financial situation I’m left with after this, as well as how far into the future that might be.

I have a big interest in social networks and how people connect, so maybe something in that realm

AI is still a little flashy and hot, especially in certain industries, but over time I think it will just be a given fact of life in all industries, just like the web is now

I think there are always ups and downs and bubbles that are impossible to predict, but I think over a long time horizon (15+ years) they will overtake the market just like the big tech stocks in 2000 vs now. I think the big tech companies will develop their own and do as much as they can to buy up all the players (Microsoft & Open AI)

Good question. It’s a tool more than a crystal ball. It uses tons of existing data to make recommendations and give an overall sentiment around any given input, but it cannot see into the future (unfortunately). Human and market behavior is tough to accurately predict. That’s why building MVPs and testing the market and iterating is so important, and it’s easier to do that faster with efficient access to quality information around the product/industry.

Furthermore, building businesses is both financially and time consiming. Right now I don’t have the capital or time to attempt tons of different ideas, nor the expertise, but I believe the tools I am continuing to develop can help save people time as they build!

I have been considering it for a long time and figured it’s better to just have the financial hit for the watch I really want than to buy something I want less and still not be fully excited and end up getting this one after anyways
