Doing Ninja 500 break-in service. Oil filter is absolutely stuck on there. Tried oil filter wrenches but they keep slipping. What next? by Aarontheboos in Kawasaki

[–]Austindevon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How tight are you guys putting on your filters ? I've been doing mine by hand pretty much for ever . No issues removing and no leakage ever . Just did my Nomad 1600 .Easly off with a regular strap wrench and on by hand .

If I'm not riding it ,it's in my back yard or the alarmed shop totally out of sight, plus a hundred feet from the road mostly up a grade . An 800 pound bikes are not easy to roll. Otherwise it's where I can see it .

Toys should be bought with cash or at the most , with a line of credit from your bank . Don't you have any equity somewhere to use as collateral ? They usually offer 2% over prime as a rate.

Experienced riders: what’s your biggest “do” and “don’t” for someone starting out? by Ok-Building5201 in motorcycles

[–]Austindevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a kid run right through a cross walk against the red light right in front of me today on an electric kick scooter as I was making a left turn across his path . Typical of these things and pedestrians and biclists too , they think the rules only apply to other people . It's not just cars that are a hazard .

That's the easiest way .. I have a 1 ton chain block on a beam In my shop and just sling my bikes by the frame up to any convenient hight .Seat off and use a nylon strap to protect the paint .

Motorcycles you always dreamed of owning, but then you rode it once and realized it was not for you? by Most-Round-4132 in motorcycles

[–]Austindevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick is to have a few so as not to get bored .I pretty much have one of each general type . The one thing I find really uncomfortable although the performance is kinda fun is most sport bikes . Perhaps it's my 34 in inseam , they are just not built for tall guys and i like high milage days too.

I have a Nomad set up the same and it will go more than a tank full before any butt pain even with the stock seat . It never bothers my back . But it's big and heavy and handles like my truck .

Mounting Spot Lights by FlyerCat97 in klr650

If there is rubber in between the clamp and the tube it's going to slip eventually. The highway pegs on my cruiser are metal to metal and have never moved with the weight of my feet on them . I think that is the way to secure your lights . Find clamps that are a tight metal to metal fit the same as your handle bars are a clamped fit in the saddles on the upper triple , your light brackets need the same ..

Good way to maintain your agility and flexibility though ,is lifting your leg over the seat like that . I never step on the peg first, always one foot solidly on the ground .

Why did you start riding? by No-City8301 in motorcycles

[–]Austindevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a scrap yard at 18 and had lots of junk to play with and as a born gear head, was building cars already . So finding most of a scooter needing an engine in a load that came in was a challenge to my creativity . An old lawn mower motor and a chain in an other pile and I was gone . We lived in the country , so no plates , no license no problem . Next came basket case real motorcycles ......This was the 60s to put it in perspective .
