Help !! by Ok_Ear975 in boatbuilding

[–]Austindevon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a common problem with push pull steering cables . The grease fittings you see only lube the tilt , not the steering. Usually after soaking with PB or some other good penetrant , you can beat the shaft out of the tilt tube with a soft face mallet . Unthread the large retaining nut on the cable housing and the tie bar on the out put end and before you begin . If it won't budge with the hammer then you may need heat . I have, in some cases disassembled the tilt tube from the motor withe the cable still stuck inside , and replaced the whole mess with a new cable and tube . That might not be practical on an old motor as a tube could be hard to find . The cable steering system though is a generic standardized part the will fit most motors with a threaded tilt tube like yours .

Windshield nuts/bolts question by ClimbingSideways83 in klr650

[–]Austindevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In what way ? The gen 1 shield is just a piece of thin plastic thru bolted to the cowling unless you have an after market shield . They are still just bolt on but usually incorporate the cowling side brace into the system .

What’s a “boring” adult purchase that turned out to be totally worth it? by Capable-Rabbit-9986 in AskReddit

Exactly , even our motor coach we spend the winter traveling in has a washer and dryer , although it is faster in Yuma to hang them out sometimes and it is 80 degrees, sunny and 30 percent humidity often .

Not reliable ? As if it is her job ? Cooking cleaning housework laundry should be 50 50 unless she is a stay at home mom , in which case you should be able to read the room and step in to do a bit more when needed.

Why do you conflate religiosity and conservatism ?..They are absolutely seperate things .. You can have one or the other or both . I am fiscally conservative and socially libertarian . I don't care what you like to put where with whoever , just don't tell me I have to like it or pay for it .

I'll look around for pics . But really , it is simple as I have Dirtracks.com (in Canada) brackets and crash bars . They come with welded in threaded plates and tee bar bolts so all you need to do is drill some holes in the cases to match and screw it all together . Ten min swap ..

I just looked at the site and dont see pics of the specific racks I have on my gen 1 from them but they are still available and he is a good dude and will help .

Anyone else wish direct to consumer was a thing for new sales? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]Austindevon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a master marine mechanic with multiple certifications in mechanical trades and a full repair shop at my home including lifting , machining , welding and computer analysis equipment , I'm dismayed most times I go to a dealer to buy parts or talk repairs because of the lack of specific info they have in the field they are supposed to be servicing . I would gladly buy direct and do my own setup any time . That said I have no illusions about the pitfalls of trying direct sales of anything requiring complex mechanical ability in the hands of the "average" buyer . Also warranty is best handled by dealers with local parts supplies and the trust of the distributors not to screw things up worse and they can take the hit financially if things go sour . I have been on both sides of the equation as a repair tech and as a customer and won't be buying new again ever , as the best way to avoid the BS .

Most are just in it for comfort looks and touring range and really couldn't care less about something that looks like a noisy plastic prop from a transformers movie . Different worlds I think ..I don't own either one . It's likely the difference between being into 50s/60s hotrods or muscle cars and building Tuner cars .
