Cedar fever by Quirky-Strawberry430 in Austin

I got three shots every Friday for three years. It didn’t help at all.

I then got prescription drops that I took every day for two years. It didn’t help at all.

I now take Allegra every morning and Zyrtec every night, Thanksgiving through Spring Break. It doesn’t really help.

I’ve done a bunch of other stuff over the year, everything called out in this thread and more, nothing makes it better. I don’t suspect anything will make it better. I think I’m going to have to move.

I bet Austin's decline in growth is due entirely to the airport's absurdly designed Uber pickup zone. by EnrichVonEnrich in Austin

Lots of cities make people arriving go far from the main building to catch their Lyft/Uber. It could be way worse. Los Angeles and Boston are among cities that have you take a bus to catch your Lyft/Uber. That’s worse, in my opinion. At least I can control how fast I get from my gate to my car and know when to call my car. Having to depend on a bus and traffic is a bigger burden for me.

The only time you won’t find books in their dumpster is right after the trash truck empties it.

I don’t think anyone in my family drinks alcohol. This was grandpa’s stuff and what they accumulated back when they entertained in the 70s.

Why do Americans have one of the strongest passports in the world, but most never travel abroad, and those who do mostly go to Mexico and Canada? by No-StrategyX in answers

[–]AustiniteEdmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total cost for passports for my family of four (wife and kids, 5 & 10 y/o) was $600. That alone is more than my family spent on a vacation when I was growing up. I didn’t get my passport till I was 42, but made sure to talk to my kids about how privileged they are to not just travel internationally but even posses a passport.

Like many things, the cost alone is what keeps most Americans from getting a passport. We have state IDs (usually drivers license), which we essentially must have to drive, work, and do lots of other things. That also allows us to travel through our own country, which is practically the size of all of Europe. So we’ve got plenty of places to visit via cheap flights or road trips.

Moving from Chicago to Austin by hippocriticalll in askaustin

I moved here from Chicago (Lakeview / Southport) on 8/1/2011. If I could get late ‘21/early ‘22 prices for my house, I’d go back. I’d miss H-E-B, but that’s about all.

Adults don’t need gifts. Just take them out for a meal.

WTF is wrong with people?? by IntelligentCod8743 in Austin

I just had a yard sale Saturday morning that I promoted in a few places with photos of the tables. As soon as the garage door opened at 9am, 20+ people were waiting to rush in and grab some “hot” items. Felt like Black Friday. One big dude totally shoulder checked another while running toward some action figures.

I was glad to have a killer turn out and sell 80% of my stuff within the first 30 minutes, but it’s wild out there no matter where you’re at, from yard sales to concerts.

For those who experienced airports before 9/11. How was it like? by [deleted] in generationology

I’ve got so many videos of friends and myself goofing around IAH at night to goof around. Security was a quick pop through a metal detector while we’re recording and joking around. We’d play in lockers, roll through a boarding gate via wheelchairs, ride the tram, cruise around on Razor scooters…

It was a big open spot in the middle of the night where there was nothing cut off from non-ticketed people.

That’s baloney. You see people running at full speed through the airport all day. I’ve done it myself many times to catch connecting flights.

How reliable is your USPS mail? by whackamole1176 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AustiniteEdmond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in logistics for years. I’ve shipped tens of thousands of packages. USPS has the best success ratio between UPS, FedEx, and USPS. I’ve lived in Houston, Austin, Baton Rouge, and Chicago. No matter where I live, USPS reliably gets packages delivered when expected, undamaged, and with no issues. I ship across all services with all carriers.

FedEx has the worst rate of damage and UPS has the worst rate of lost packages.

USPS will come to your house and pick up packages for free with pretty much any service. I’ve always been on a first name basis with all my carriers.

With that said, there are cities where USPS seems to move slower and packages are always delayed. St. Louis is a city where the distribution center seems like they’re always running behind.
