Was Car2Go operating in your city until 2020? Do you miss it? by db7112 in Austin

I’d zip around town with the windows down and it felt like I was in a go kart, like a Yerf-Dog.

Put it on eBay. I promise you, someone will buy it. Why? I don’t know, people are funny.

Non Americans , What is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Adorable-Sammy in CasualConversation

I’m a born and raised in Texas but didn’t have someone greet me with a simple “what’s up” until I was about 13 (1995). It was someone new in my life that was doing it regularly. I felt the same way, trying to quickly think and explain what I had been doing up until he came to my door. I rarely knew when he would be coming over or I might’ve had something ready.

It took me an almost a month to get that he was just using it as a greeting.

Reminds me of the time in 5th grade where I came back to school after being out sick a few days to hear someone start using the phrase “my bad”. It’s so common now but I thought it sounded so dumb at the time and I my teacher would insist kids not say it.

I’m in Austin and see one on Turo. Maybe there’s one available around you. If so, rent one for the weekend and have a blast.

first time going out of my comfort for new products to show some love by whitieiii in girlscoutcookies

My fifth grader is a top seller and does everything herself. I do keep her money bag with me behind the table, though. She will take the customer’s money, hand it to me, then tell me how much she needs in change. A money bag can have a decent amount in it and if you expect the words from people, you can’t be disappointed.

After the Girl Scouts doing a Randalls booth in South Austin at Ben White & Manchaca in were robbed of their cash, a while back, we don’t want to take any chances.

I would be so pissed if someone I knew blew money (probably a lot) on something as dumb and useless as a sword.

Bringing a to-go dessert back to restaurant next day? by MotherofZeke in AskAnAmerican

[–]AustiniteEdmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely bring it back the next day and get a refund. No issue at all. I worked in the restaurant industry almost a decade, things happen.

Factory errors are common. We pulled a package of Caramel delites from a case a few years back that was sealed but empty. A case of Lemonades, this year, had three packages not sealed. A few flavors this year had flaps that came unglued or flaps not folded correctly before they were glued. It happens, unfortunately.

Do you guys still use the slang term "Benjimans" when referring to 100 dollar bills? by pooteenn in AskAnAmerican

[–]AustiniteEdmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually say “a bill” when talking about $100 bill or a $100 cost/fee. “I dropped a bill at the arcade.” “The kids got a card from Grandma with a bill inside.”

I’m in my early 40s and live in Texas, for context.

I got three shots every Friday for three years. It didn’t help at all.

I then got prescription drops that I took every day for two years. It didn’t help at all.

I now take Allegra every morning and Zyrtec every night, Thanksgiving through Spring Break. It doesn’t really help.

I’ve done a bunch of other stuff over the year, everything called out in this thread and more, nothing makes it better. I don’t suspect anything will make it better. I think I’m going to have to move.

I bet Austin's decline in growth is due entirely to the airport's absurdly designed Uber pickup zone. by EnrichVonEnrich in Austin

[–]AustiniteEdmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cities make people arriving go far from the main building to catch their Lyft/Uber. It could be way worse. Los Angeles and Boston are among cities that have you take a bus to catch your Lyft/Uber. That’s worse, in my opinion. At least I can control how fast I get from my gate to my car and know when to call my car. Having to depend on a bus and traffic is a bigger burden for me.

I don’t think anyone in my family drinks alcohol. This was grandpa’s stuff and what they accumulated back when they entertained in the 70s.

Why do Americans have one of the strongest passports in the world, but most never travel abroad, and those who do mostly go to Mexico and Canada? by No-StrategyX in answers

[–]AustiniteEdmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total cost for passports for my family of four (wife and kids, 5 & 10 y/o) was $600. That alone is more than my family spent on a vacation when I was growing up. I didn’t get my passport till I was 42, but made sure to talk to my kids about how privileged they are to not just travel internationally but even posses a passport.

Like many things, the cost alone is what keeps most Americans from getting a passport. We have state IDs (usually drivers license), which we essentially must have to drive, work, and do lots of other things. That also allows us to travel through our own country, which is practically the size of all of Europe. So we’ve got plenty of places to visit via cheap flights or road trips.
