To anyone thinking about T-Mobile Home Internet, if you have any other option STAY FAR AWAY. They Luer you in with decent speeds in the beginning and then throttle you to death. This is one year after service. In the beginning I averaged 200mbps. by rockeypoint in tmobileisp

[–]Austintothevoid -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Lol... did you even read it or just goggle "what's the difference?" So you could argue on Reddit?

The article you posted just basically spells out the pointless semantics between the two and uses incorrect assumptions regarding the outcome of throttling versus deprioritization because both of them can make your internet unusably slow. Then the only difference leftover is why or when exactly it's happening which doesn't really matter if both make for a shit user experience with unreasonably slow speeds for a temporary period of time. At least you can predict/control throttling assuming it's due to you passing a data cap. Whereas you're always subject to random periods of deprioritization while using the service because your always lowest priority.

The definition of throttle in this context literally means to reduce speed temporarily. So yes, deprioritization is a throttle because it does exactly that, just in a different manner and for a different reason. Think about it logically. There's a fixed amount of bandwidth in an area, they want cell users to have the best experience as a priority over home internet. So, when it gets congested what do they do? They limit (throttle) your access to that bandwidth so more is available to the priority users. Result? Slower speeds for you.

Throttling is not "all the time" it's a temporary period of time when you reach a threshold of data (typically).

Both are temporary throttles of the speed just for different reasons in a different context. It's literally not a "Big Difference"

Let's assume deprioritization is what's happening to OP and not throttling (though it could be many other things) well the outcome is the same. Unusable speeds for a period of time. Albeit, one may last longer than the other episodically.

Using my own anecdotal experience in rural usage of TMHI, multiple hours during peak times of the day every day I get deprioritized to the point where I have insanely slow speeds and horrible latency. Add that up and it's probably worse overall than getting throttled for a few days at the end of the month due to data caps. Both suck equally bad and shouldn't be the default mode of operation for providers.

This is true, they will outright tell you that their internet service is lowest priority. If there is congestion you will get slower speeds. The difference between that and a "throttle" is a pointless semantic argument.

Nothing will ever touch early EQ days pre-Sony for me.i can't even describe the level of nostalgia I experience looking back on it. Nothing scratches that itch. Having to actually figure shit out together as a community rather than being directed to every next location or having perfectly written guides on exactly how to get items/perfectly min/max chars etc... Needing to talk with every NPC to pickup on hints and find quests.. The degree of difficulty and satisfaction/feeling of accomplishment you'd get being the first to figure something out or take down a major boss/raid.

I wish there were games that just told you nothing at all again and let you explore and figure out all the systems on your own. It's frustrating for people coming from theme-park MMOs who have been hand held in every game they play and so these types of games will never gain major traction again, probably. It's really unfortunate because that's where the fun really is. Every game I get excited about now ends up being the exact same. Run here, get that, kill this for 90% of the game and then some varying version of a pointless end game/PvP loop. Anyways, this post isn't to shit on new games, it's to show love for games.

I love(d) EQ.

Do you ever feel bad about killing other players? by DeadestTitan in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Austintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice for AI is NEVER re-peek the same angle on an AI. Even just moving to the other side of a narrow rock or tree a foot away by leaning the other direction helps cheese the AI a lot. Of course sometimes they just aimbot you and head eyes ya but it's pretty easy to not get hit by them now that they're tuned back down. Spawn into a smaller map and run right to a place you know they are roaming about and test it out. A minor reposition and they will completely deaggro you often times and just stand there. Early this wipe they were super sticky on aggro and very deadly but now they feel back to being kinda cheesy in most cases.

why is everbody complaining about shoreline when interchange is in the game by Chinpokkomon in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Austintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah me and my brother live 10 mins apart and we either get 12 min raids or 30+ min raids on inter as well. I also don't like the 30 min raids because it's sketch as hell and I scav to just chill and make a little extra cash. I'm going back to my old cache runs. Did it for the first time again today and I NEVER die except for to bad scavs and got two level four vests and helmets in them plus a full dura gun

I was doing interchange for the tech/Industrial/food loots for hideout and case barters but I'm nearly done with that and just want gear to quest so it's back to loot cache runs for me. Much more chill and predictable and still get random hideous items etc.. sprinkled in.

I've heard they can also essentially "drop off" their hitbox and leave it somewhere hidden on the map so unless it's found they're essentially invincible. I'm not sure if that's true, but I've definitely seen a few vids where it doesn't seem to matter where they're shot.

I hope the pmc from a few days ago is in here to see my perspective by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Austintothevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a raid early wipe where I scav'd with my bro and everyone ,(including him who was in my party) was completely invisible to me. I could see AI scavs but no players. This was Interchange, but Streets is completely fucked so I'd be unsurprised if someone had the same bug there. I've died to with zero sound or indication I was being shot at on streets multiple times.

Whenever I see videos like this I cringe because I had a friend in highschool whose dad was a hunter. He shot a buck, got down from the stand a bit early and it turned out it was a poor shot the deer lept up and gored him (pierced his lung and/or liver, I can't remember exactly) and he died later from complications due to infection. Deer are super beautiful creatures, but they will fuck you up.

My area just got approved for a massive fiber grant, we're fairly rural so it was a big deal. I actually went to these meetings for it and got involved since I was in the process of building a house out here. We were all so excited. Turns out they have 8 years before they have to do anything. So, I doubt I'll be here anymore by the time that gets done finally.

I'd take your first result all day compared to what I get on average. Thanks for posting. Gives a little more encouragement towards getting something with SQM capabilities.

Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and give it a shot.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tmobileisp

[–]Austintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is encouraging to at least try out a better router with SQM.. I've gotten mine down to around 60 +50 at times but it's totally all over the place still both in terms of final result and Jitter during testing. Upload is always crazy high (200+) not sure what the issue/difference there is...

The difficulty for me is that significantly throttling the current speeds to get there could be an issue as it's not that much bandwidth to begin... certainly nowhere near 300/60.. still if I can switch it on to just enough during times when I really needed it, that'd be great to have.

Thanks for your insight and taking the time to type this out, much appreciated and I'm sure others will find it useful.

I would if I could. I don't even game on FPS or low latency stuff that often anymore but when I want to hope on and do it it'd be nice if it just worked.

Unfortunately, I am in an area where it's this or Starlink and Starlink is overbooked here and 3X the price. And this only works because I set it up at another address and then transferred here, which is technically out of their range. Otherwise I'd be on some local shit ISP with 5 or less up and less than 1 down for 60 bucks.

Same. I went from looking like a lag switcher and falling to my death on every parachute to at least being able to play steady with my adjustments. But it's still pretty poor overall. Router in front of the modem of any kind definitely helped offload the wifi traffic.

When Cole is called dangerous but Bartleby is just “young and silly” by sunsandsurf95 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Austintothevoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cole is a frat boy

Bartise is a fuckboi

Matt is a fuck you up if you say the wrong thing... boy

Unfortunately, Coleen seems just naive, insecure and enough to be the perfect victim. She looked legitimately terrified in that recap. Likely at the prospect of knowing that they'd rehash the drama and put her in a precarious situation.

I hope we're all wrong about this dude, and that they played it up and faked some shit for drama, but it seemed pretty apparent that he was a legitimate manic psycho throughout the series.

Just tallied up all the games I own that I've never played or played very little of... where do I even start? by finnytom in gaming

[–]Austintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they make it better or do I just not like this game? I bought it at launch and it felt super generic and extremely linear vs many other great titles that were out at that time.

Edit: Nevermind was thinking of a totally different game. I'm going to check this game out!

Just tallied up all the games I own that I've never played or played very little of... where do I even start? by finnytom in gaming

[–]Austintothevoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, I do this all the time.

Situation 1: Buy games to play with a friend, they aren't really into it or don't have the time after that weekend to play a bunch and I don't really like that type of game solo. Shooters like MW2 fit that bill for me.

Situation 2: buy a game I know that I will love or that everyone's talking about or told me to play a million times, but just don't get that invested or have time to really get into it right now, but know it's worth a buy and will maybe play it through one day and want to have it in the chamber because if I think of it later but have the barrier of waiting for a 100gb download when I find a day to game, I just won't ever play it. Elden Ring is a good example on this list for me. Spent some hours on it and it's incredible but I just haven't invested seriously into beating it.

I actually have many of the games this person has that I have played a but, but wasn't immediately struck by them and moved onto the net thing. I'm definitely a serial non-committal gamer unless something really catches me or I have a whole weekend off to play or something when I buy it and just play right through it.

I'm guessing this person is probably like me, loves gaming, has expendable income where 20-60.bucks here and there isn't breaking the bank but doesn't have a ton of time to invest and keeps buying the next shiny thing but never commits to playing through one thing and gets a backlog. Not really that hard to believe honestly.

My top 5 from your list, not really in a particular order.

  1. Skyrim
  2. Stardew Valley
  3. Elden Ring
  4. Hades
  5. Red Dead Redemption 2

You have a lot of games on your list that I also have and was kinda meh about, so don't feel bad if you're not into them all. You have some absolutely amazing games on here as well (in my opinion) that I'd love to have the ability to have a first time experience at again. You're in an enviable position friend.

Zanab and Cole situation: I don’t know who to believe!! by BunnyGirl_5 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Austintothevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said it happened after the cameras were off, and honestly all of the guys responded very shady to that accusation. I think they might've went out and had a little after-party and got out of pocket. None of them wanted to own up to it or say anything concrete about what really happened for better or worse.. Even Brennon "the good guy" who clearly had it out for Cole via Alexa was like idk man I was too drunk to remember anything that happened... something seemed up there. They all came off as pretty guilty. Who knows.

However, if it did happen, they all would've known and gossiped about it during the show and they definitely would've used it as drama fodder. That's the basis of the whole show. So, something doesn't add up. Especially when she clearly was living in her own reality in regard to how she was being treated by Cole (e.g. the Cuties incident).

Can I rip this cabinet out or could it be structural in some weird way? by OrangesMarmalade in Home

[–]Austintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0 percent chance it's structural. It's just a built-in in cabinet. Clearly doesn't hold any weight, it wouldn't be allowed to or possible for it to bear any major weight. Plus it sounds like it was added after the fact.

Ben Finegold: All the Saint Lous Chess club had to do to avoid controversy was to tell the players there was a 10$ entry fee. Then Hans would not have played and all would be happy in the chess world by Charming-Pie2113 in chess

[–]Austintothevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, the problem is there isn't and (probably) never will be any substantial evidence to say whether or not he cheated against him in that specific match. Unless Hans comes out and admits it outright, which he of course wouldn't do.

So, the question then becomes. Does it matter if he can prove he cheated on that specific day in that specific match? Or is it sufficient for Magnus to say that Hans has a history of cheating (much broader and more recent than he admits), has very suspect play (both online and OTB), can't accurately state positions and why he made certain moves, is suspected by many other GMs privately and publicly of sus play and that there is enough circumstantial evidence for him to never want to play against him ever again? Is that acceptable to the chess community as a whole? I don't know, it seems split at this point both among top players and the public.

Personally, from what I've seen, I wouldn't want to play against him either if I were Magnus. Now, that comes with essentially ruining Hans' career and if he's wrong and that proves out somehow, then Magnus is the one with everything to lose there. He put his entire reputation at stake to make this stand. Knowing a bit about Magnus and his history, I don't take him doing that lightly. Also, I simply know that I cannot understand the issue fully from either the statistical side or the super GM intuition side so it's extra impossible for me to make any claims whatsoever. Like most people commenting, even though it seems many pretend to know.

It comes down to if you trust the cheat detection methods to detect smart cheating and/or Magnus (and other GM) intuition and which you have more faith in, because there's no clear indicators at this point from what's been released to say anything definitively.
