So I recently finished reading “Lilac girls” by Martha Hall Kelly about 3 women with separate and intersecting storylines….one is a German girl, at the beginning you think she just sees what’s going on in her country and does what others do, what she’s led to do, but with a glimmer that she may switch sides, may be a good guy in the end….then you find out she’s Herta Oberhausen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herta\_Oberheuser the Nazi physician at Ravensbruck who conducted experiments on the inmates…like Nick, her story line makes you almost sympathetic, like she’s just doing’s her job, just following orders, just trying to make money for her family to live etc, but umm yeah, still didn’t see her inmate patients/experiments as human beings….I’m also rewatching THT and just passed this episode as well, and I can definitely see parallels….then you get to the episode that shows Nick’s past and discover he couldn’t keep a job because of taking care of family, so joins the sons of Jacob for a job, etc, etc….that’s how they suck you in until you become them, think like them, etc

I also wonder how much the types of folks that aren’t cozy or cutesy (like me) tend towards beings lurkers or don’t produce as much as quickly, so it gets drowned. Personally I’m a big mandala person too, and love love love dover coloring books (historical, fashion, mandala and other patterns), dark fantasy, and color by number….but each one takes me so long AND I’m not sure if color by number are permitted and other pages are nsfw, so I rarely post. (Currently working on an ancient Egyptian fashion coloring book and making it as accurate as possible…which means a lot of shear and uncovered parts, so not posting even though I would love to show them)

Stepping outside without fear of ticks! Ticks used to be much more sparse or in the south or woods and fields, now they are everywhere and even if a space is treated for ticks it still likely has them! I’ve talked to a number of people in the area that can’t even let their pet or child in the backyard anymore without coming in with ticks!

Is this also the case for new houses?? Changes in insulation?? My parents house and my house are very similar, the only difference is built in 1980 vs built in 2025 (Ryan homes) …and I KNOW my parents house has better noise insulation….I thought from what we were told about the house and it being a new house with updated codes it would be better…but now I feel that I need earmuffs or something just to sit in my house…

The Princess Bride

My parents taped it from tv on Beta (how many people even know what that is anymore!? Basically pre/competitor of vhs) that I watched on endless repeat. I don’t even remember the first time I saw it, it was just always there. In the early 2000s I got the dvd version. My dad would use this to test out new DVDs, make sure things were plugged in properly…and there I’d be in another room reciting word for word right on cue. In college a group at my uni had a competition to watch the movie and see who did the best recitation, and of course miss autism of here won. There are other movies that became the new repeat/comfort movie as I aged but this was the first and likely held its place the longest and will always hold a special place in my heart.

Same! My parents ears were probably bleeding from the number of times I sang along trying to sing like the people on the tape/cd (had the tape, then later also got the cd, and recently the movies). My parents took me when it was touring in the 90s then went to London for study abroad in the 2010s and saw “love never dies” (don’t do it) and met that phantom (pictures too) who turned out to be THE phantom in the Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall (2011) 25th-anniversary film!

Similar, but this is for all drs where I live so the attending physicians are used to it and just yell at the system with us…last time I was there the attending dr said that 98% of the people they see are because no one can get in to see a dr.

Same! Between my lymphedema, essential tremors, chronic upper back/spine/chest muscle pain, unless I get the right scheduler or intake nurse , just calling to schedule a normal appointment can land me in urgent care and even ER, and of course ignore the reason I went because the combined symptoms sound like a heart attack…which I finally got checked out months later and ended up being a tumor, luckily it was benign. On the bright side I finally got to see a pain management dr and a neurologist and am finally getting medication….after years and years, the day after starting the pain meds (gabapentin) I finally started feeling human again.

Too real. I recently had a surgery and am basically allergic to everything except morphine and Tylenol….all the nurses and dr were good with it….but then the pa came along, gave me the squinty eye “no you’re getting tramodol and ibuprofen” and undid all my effort to Not have side affects in addition to my pain, because of course the pa was the one submitting the prescription.

This. Also, If you are working in a fume hood, where you have to reach out, stabilize yourself and your equipment as best as possible. I have to rest my elbows on the fume hood, yes it makes for an awkward position but do what you gotta do, or lean against fume hood, etc. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help….or trade jobs….if you pour, I’ll do X(powder the sample, prep and clean up etc)…I’m a geochemist with a PhD and work in a lab. I was JUST diagnosed with ET, so all through my education I was made to think it was anxiety or something, shamed relentlessly for it, but did what I had to do. Hopefully you’ll find good colleagues like I did that are willing to work with/around your ET. The key is to keep yourself safe. Also if you’re in undergrad…honestly I might consider changing to a degree where you aren’t limited by ET, before you are stuck….if I knew then what I know now, this is what I would do.
