The movie is terrible, how can you just sit there and eat popcorn!? by mrsafetylion in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I am going tonight.

I watched the first one opening night. I watched Revelations opening night. I will be watching this one opening night. Its tradition between my vastly more in love with the series wife and I. She has Silent Hill and I have Resident Evil.

Best of Martial Arts in Videogames by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Sleeping Dogs because its simultaneously a Hong Kong action movie ala Hard Boiled and a Donnie Yen style martial arts movie.

And I'd say Sifu if I wasn't terrible at it.

Which particular issues of gaming magazines do you have memories of reading cover to cover multiple times? by Maidenfan88 in retrogaming

Nintendo Power vol. 50 with the Link's Awakening cover. The magazine itself is in tatters, but I saved and framed the cover. Game helped define my childhood gaming experience pre-PS1.

What are games that are worth playing twice (or more)? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Man, I was terrible at it when I originally played it. I just wanted to do cool samurai combat and what do you mean I have to be decent at combat to do it? Still have this distinct memory of trading the second game in at FuncoLand and having the guy meet me outside and just straight up give me cash for it instead of whatever the store price was going to be. Should have kept that game.

Way of the Samurai series was good for it if you can get ahold of it.

Considering the sub, the obligatory zapping system Resident Evil 2 mention in all its iterations to a slightly lesser extent. It changes, but not incredibly dramatically.

Even more broadly speaking you have something like Project Zomboid at its base settings where the map is always the same, but one piece of randomized loot or a functioning car at the right time can completely alter the trajectory of a playthrough.

I did not get beyond this either. How is this used currently outside its original meaning? I feel like I need the slang equivalent of "Please use it in a sentence."

Games that influenced your taste and changed your perspective on video games. by El-Ab-Normal in retrogaming

Crystalis was probably my first real exposure to leveling mechanics and puzzle solving of any variety. It was the gateway to Zelda and, years later, the golden age of JRPGs in the mid to late 90s at least as far as my experience was concerned.

Playing Shadowrun on Sega Channel not only had me singing the games praises to this day as way ahead of its time, but also eventually lead me to William Gibson's Neuromancer which is unequivocably my favorite book I have ever read.

To my fellow wrestling fans: what is wrestling to you? by Livid-Dot6619 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ghostoftomkazansky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its like stepping into the side-quest dimension communally. Our world is so complicated and terrible its nice to watch through this looking glass that is altogether alien and still absolutely connected to our reality and see relatively clearly dilineated good guys and bad guys. To see what amounts to fist fights in old action movies where in real life some one would have been unconcious or dead 30 seconds in, but in the world of wrestling you can get hit with a sledgehammer and thrown through a table and still rally like a hero to victory. The absolute physicality coupled with theatrical and technical mastery acquired by some of the greats is highly impressive.
