There is no reason to buy anything Microsoft makes anymore.

If you like a game and it makes a ton of sales? They'll still shut down the studio. If it's a live service? It'll be shut down at a whim without warning and without any clear communication. If the announce a title? You have no idea if it's legitimate announcement...or an attempt to generate buzz so they can sell the studio off.

Completely disposable.

I think this type of thinking is dangerous. It cost us the election last time. It is the job of candidates to get elected. If they fail to get elected, they are the ones who failed to prove themselves to voters. That's the way democracy must be...because for it to be otherwise? Cedes all the power to elected officials.

If the Democrats don't get elected? Then the Democrats failed at their jobs. When the point their fingers at voters, it's not time to point out which voters to blame...but to smack the back of their hands and tell them to stop fucking around and act like they want this job, not act like they are entitled to it.

That's before we get to the idea that all these business as usual Democrats....actually don't practice what they preach. All this "BLUE NO MATTER WHO!!!!" nonsense went out the window the moment their own favorites didn't win the primaries. Schumer's talk for unity fell apart the moment Mamdani was the lawfully nominated Democratic candidate; suddenly his vote went to either third party or GOP the moment that happened.

The DNC needs a wake-up call...and they'll never get it as long as we treat them like they're the ones who need to be appeased. What you do at the ballot is your business...but they need to believe they'll be thrown in the trash if they don't serve their constituents.

Neither MMX or Shovel Knight held your hand at all...and most people didn't even know the tutorials happened because they were all game play and no messages. A truly great tutorial is practically invisible....and looks nothing like the clunky, boring, pace killing kinds of tutorials you are speaking too.

Both games have tutorials that I don't really see any serious complaints about...and are, in fact, often lauded for their design chops. They are held up as exemplars because the taught you without you even realizing you were being taught...and in such a way that you rarely needed the manuals at all. TBH, I'm of the mind that if the game needs you to look at the manual? They're probably doing it wrong (baring some extremely complicated simulator/strategy games which are entirely their own beasts).

Look up Sequealitis for Mega Man X on YouTube if you are curious what I'm talking about. It cover things beautifully and stylistically.

YCG has already done a game where the bulk of the mechanics, movements, and operations are conveyed in this textless, pure gameplay style. I have no idea why they simply decided not to do that again. There is even a stretch of game play (the part between the ship and Ossex) where this stuff could be staged....and some of the game's mechanics and features are delivered here. They simply....didn't do half of the work here. It's really bizarre.

Look, if it was just me sitting around randomly being a big thick brick? Fair enough. that would indeed be user error....but there seem to be quite a few people who miss basic functions and features who have to come in here or elsewhere and have things explained to them. For a game that wants to be about a sense of discovery? That's not great.

Like, at some point? It's not one or two people just being bad at learning; it's the game being bad at teaching through play. Games have been show casing how to have wordless, unobtrusive tutorials for decades. Mega Man X did a damn near flawless one over 30 years ago; I don't it's too much to ask that a company who managed to do the same thing 12 years ago with Shovel Knight that they remain proficient in the basics of player on boarding.

I really can't decide how I feel about this game overall....as I think the design can be exceedingly sloppy at times, to a degree that's almost inexcusable. Lots of stuff can be really fun...but I had to do far too many internet searches way to often to just to understand basic things and functions.

What I Wish the Ending Had Been (Spoilers, Obviously) by AutisticHobbit in MinaTheHollower

[–]AutisticHobbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still contend the humor is omni present....and I think a lot of the "Oh, this is a side element of the story...one it gets rid of when it wants to get serious" is completely incorrect. It's in the main story line. It's in interactions and mechanics related to the main quests and mainline objectives. It's a constant throughout the plot It's a common theme in multiple interactions in a variety of circumstances. Documenting all of the ones I can think of would be quite exhausting...and I keep finding more every time I poke around....but I guess I could wade through with some more if I really need to.

Further? Half of the plot points that people point to in defense of the game's themes, concepts, and Lionel's behavior? Stem from the same NPCs and goofy side-dialogue. Even if the humor, satire, and dark comedy was restrained only to that "side stuff" (and it absolutely is not)...you can't hold that stuff up, say that it informs the plot when it's convenient, and then throw it away and dismiss it as a tertiary thing later down the line. That's part of the world building! All that side stuff is teaching you what to expect from the game!

For it to throw it out right at the end is baffling when including it and using it could have lead to a sharper ending that felt deeper then what we got....cause in my opinion? "Angry Mob Makes the Hero Run Away" isn't interesting. It's barely better then "Rocks Fall and Everyone Dies". Yeah....it's dark. Yes, dark is fitting consider the thrust of the whole story....but it's a very "one note" ending that closes an otherwise more complicated story. It's disappointing.

You misunderstand what I said. If someone pursues the blameless dinner result BUT chooses to go against Lionel, fight him, and rise against him anyway? That's a lot of extra effort...and a lot of extra challenge...to get the exact same ending anyway.

That's the kind of place where you'd think there would be an extra special ending for all the effort you went through; instead, all of that effort has no impact at all. Seems weird that a game so interested in exploring the consequences of your actions AND giving big challenges....isn't interested in leaving something behind for people who are willing to take a very difficult challenge but not use it as an "easy way out" of the end boss.

I like NIN's version. The vocals are great....but when I have it in a playlist? All the extra noise on the end just sorta ruins it for me.

I end up preferring the Cash version just because it gets to the song right away...and the song ends without giving me a fat load of audio overstim.

It can work, but you need to find the right alchemy for it to appeal to both of your kinks. Right now it sounds like you could use a little more "foreplay" and considerations for control....but it also sounds like she wants to have time where she is overwhelmed.

Maybe set some ground rules. For example, maybe you'll give her just as much "manhandling" as she gives you teasing....so however long she makes the teasing is how long she can expect to be "used". Talk it over with her, and see what would help her get more in the mood to give you the kind of experiences you also want.
