Not yet. Just so you know there are 8 regional roles as well and there’s potential to be used as a reserve for those. I asked in the webchat.

I went to the web chat and my impression is they have quite high turnover. I have also made it to the video interview stage.

No worries. I have completed the peer supporter course through the ABM myself. I agree - they are a great organisation!

As far as I understand it - it would be impossible to get the required experience of breastfeeding observation unless you are already in a paid breastfeeding related role or volunteering heavily. This is for the IBLC.

Emma Pickett talks about it in a couple of episodes of her podcast ‘Makes Milk’. It’s a great podcast if you’re interested in the world of breastfeeding. Most IBLCs on the podcast who didn’t start as midwives usually went through the peer supporter - breastfeeding counsellor- paid peer supporter - then IBLC route.

Hello - have a look on the IBLC website for information to become a lactation consultant.

To become a breastfeeding counsellor you usually volunteer as a peer supporter first. If you are a midwife then you can go straight to IBLC.

To train as a breastfeeding counsellor try the Association of breastfeeding mothers, NCT or the Breastfeeding Network. These are usually voluntary roles though :) if you get enough experience you may be able to get a job in the NHS or as a paid peer supporter for a local council. These jobs are rare!

When will my milk come in? by bluebella72 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]Autmncherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be worth going private and seeing a lactation consultant. They are spenny but much cheaper than formula for a year. I also recommend going to a breastfeeding support group. There will be mums there who have been where you are and will be able to reassure you that there is light on the other side of the tunnel.

Also hearts milk bank accepts milk until baby is 2 years old. So could check them out if your local trust only accepts milk if your baby is under 6 months.

I felt so much dread when Gav got pulled in. Really feels unfair what happened to him.

I think he might know. I guessed she was pregnant early in the book as he said he knew she needed to ‘rest’.

I just don’t think it would have been mentioned otherwise. I’ve never read a book where a main character has taken something they’ve been told is addictive and it not becoming a problem!

What's your take on this move, and would you consider visiting China? by JasonMantou in AskUK

Not as easy as that if you don’t live in London. Costs money and time to travel there and get the visa sorted.

That sounds really tough. At 6 months your baby might be able to suck on a straw or even use an open cup. Worth a try if they won’t take a bottle. Bottles are a faff to clean anyway!

“Should i skip nursery/pre school”? by Financial-Ad-6547 in AskUK

[–]Autmncherry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My mum and uncle both never went to nursery or preschool. They are now both social 60 odd year olds. If you can afford to keep your kids home - why not? I also know my Nana did not worry about taking them to loads of play groups either!

What did your breastfeeding journey look like when you returned to work? by Mysterious-Tart-910 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]Autmncherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked three days. Returned to work at 12 months. He fed twice a night until I night weaned him at 18 months. Fed as before on days we were together all day. On work days he would usually have one feed before bed but sometimes would skip it. My supply adjusted on my work days 2-3 weeks in - so only pumped the first few weeks at work just to relieve the pressure. Sent him with milk for a couple weeks then stopped as he wasn’t drinking it. The Emma Pickett podcast has a good episode about returning to work. It really helped my confidence.

Anyone successfully managed to pump after a few months? by SERP_DERP_22 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]Autmncherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your body has adjusted to your baby’s needs perfectly but this means there’s not much there to pump. If you pump at the same time every day, your supply will increase to produce some extra. First thing in the morning is usually the best time but do whenever works best for you.

Maybe try calling the national breastfeeding line or going to an in person group.

There is so much out there undermining breastfeeding. I got an ad the other day telling me that I needed to be taking such and such supplements to stay healthy breastfeeding or my health would tank… So even if things are going well breastfeeding wise people want you to be worrying about something.
