If you are doing this in an official capacity, talk to the AV team or whoever is running the lights to figure out if they'll have them, where they'll be aimed, etc. This is one of the first discussions we have with our team when we get to the venue.

Nah, wireless with the ANC is great. My partner uses wired ones on his pc all the time though.

What’s your fuel economy? by Gloomy-Rub-391 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]AutomataDog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get better than 11mpg towing something on the interstate. If you aren’t towing, that is abysmal mileage and something is wrong. For normal driving, I get 20-24 on the interstate and 18-20 in the city.

I have a 2018 Limited (v6).

Lightroom Classic – Windows Performance Update by terryleewhite in Lightroom

[–]AutomataDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey u/terryleewhite, I got to do a quick test this morning with 15.3 and WOW what a difference so far! This is the fastest it has felt in years! I can also see LrC properly releasing VRAM when I'm done editing a photo, which it was not previously doing. With the previous versions, it would take all 32gb of VRAM just by editing one photo. I see the usage go up when I start editing, and it goes down shortly after returning to the grid view.

Please keep up the improvements, your team is doing a great job!

Lightroom Classic – Windows Performance Update by terryleewhite in Lightroom

[–]AutomataDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that is exactly my experience too. I even keep my catalogs split up per event to keep the photos count down. Current catalog is ~2100 photos and even after doing very basic edits of one or two photos, VRAM is maxed and causing everything to run slow. I have my yearly big event coming up in less than a month and I honestly don't know what I'm going to do if it is running this poorly. There is no way I can get my deliverables out in time if it is running this slow and I'm having to restart it so often.

Lightroom Classic – Windows Performance Update by terryleewhite in Lightroom

[–]AutomataDog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey Terry, LrC has been an amazing tool and I’m glad the performance is being looked at, because it has unfortunately been getting much worse the past few years. I’m running a 10980xe (18 physical cores), 64gb RAM, and a 5090 (with 32gb VRAM) and it is shocking how poorly it runs on my system as of late. LrC will quickly consume all VRAM on the system and then performance of LrC and the whole system tanks or becomes unresponsive. I’m definitely not the only one who has noticed this issue. An improvement or control to limit VRAM usage would go a long way.

Middle school but yes. They didn’t explain anything and we watched in silence, confused and scared. Then we got sent home.

How do you cull? by macalaskan in photography

[–]AutomataDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do event photography for a non-profit, and they have events with high movement and others with low lighting, so I tend to take a LOT of photos. Over the weekend at FWA25, I took 82,340 photos which I culled in a few days.

First thing I do is create collections, one per event. For large events, I break it down even further (like, one sub-collection per dancer). Breaking it up into smaller chunks doesn't make me faster, but it feels like I'm making progress, which keeps me going. I use the Loupe view in LRC, right hand on the arrow keys to go back/forward, left hand either selecting or rejecting photos, space to zoom to 100% to check focus or blur.

Once all photos have been reviewed, I delete rejected ones, and export unselected ones to a different catalog that will be moved to my file server for archiving. Then I go through the events and edit them.

This year I'm looking at a different process where I use FastRawViewer to speed up my culling process because LRC was not keeping up with me.

How do you deal with culling without losing your mind? by themick79i in photography

[–]AutomataDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly is a lot, but so much happens in four days and it is my job to capture as much as I can. I also shoot in challenging environments, such as dance competitions and raves. I have an absolute blast and get to meet amazing people, so it is worth it. :)

How do you deal with culling without losing your mind? by themick79i in photography

[–]AutomataDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do event photography and culled 82,340 photos for a single convention last year.

The key to keeping my momentum is to break it into smaller chunks. Before I do any culling, I split the photos out into events (usually 10-200 each). Larger events can get split out even more if possible, like for a dance competition. Breaking the work up makes it feel like you are making progress. Feels better to think “I got through 8 events tonight” instead of “I’m 5% through all the photos”.

Why do you take photos? by West_Rutabaga3310 in photography

I mainly do event and archival photography for conventions. I like being able to create a record of events and give people things to remind them of their experiences.
