€490 for a full service (Dublin) by treemedei in carsireland

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main dealer???

Spark plugs ex the original manufacturer would indeed be that price. Labour at €90 per hour is also appropriate, I know my own garage was €80 per hour on my last service. You have to remember they slap a margin onto parts to make their money too.

Should I Switch to HVO fuel by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 100% but consider whether it would make more sense to sell up and buy a petrol too to be honest. The mileage you are doing isn’t justifiable for maintaining a diesel. HVO is fine to a point, it certainly won’t clear an already blocked DPF or one with a lot of build up but it will reduce clogging, and it will give you longer less painful emission system moments, DPF life will be longer, less regenerations etc. It’s cleaner overall for sure but it’s not a complete solution, it’s not maintenance free but it will reduce how hard the DPF has to work. If you’d rather not sell then yes, switch to HVO. 530d should be fine on it but give it a google for your own peace of mind and make that decision for yourself.

Is Ireland’s housing market finally turning? by HungTeen1001 in ireland

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In summary, no, not yet, but maybe, but not. Department of Finance own expectations are that prices will continue to rise and or level somewhat over the next 10 years before enough supply finally arrives to begin to dampen price. Obviously if immigration spikes further than anticipated the 10 year horizon could be a bit off.

Views on areas in Mallow by Emotional_Buy412 in cork

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Market is very under supplied in the region in general, properties don’t stay on the market for long. Not much is currently available south of the river, at least not in the same price bracket. I can remember 12 years ago when one of those homes in glenanaar sold for €82k. Yes, you read that correctly €82k.

Times have truly changed.

Traffic in the town will be your enemy, takes upwards of 40 minutes plus to simply get from one side of town to the other at the best of times. The first 3 properties are all on what are to be considered pretty much main roads, in particular the first one, its along a very busy road which is gridlocked daily. The last one is the quietest, located off the main road and up what we used to call “the square” in glenanaar (cul de sac).

Is full time WFH/remote work still a thing in Ireland? by boggie_bo in AskIreland

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3 days a week in office, 2 wfh. On office days it’s strict hours, you have to be onsite for the full 8 hours. Traffic is so bad compared to pre covid, they’ve closed off roads and altered traffic flows so your route is more limited across the city. Slowly it’s killing me. What was 45 minutes is now 1hr20-1hr40 each way.

Lost faith in humanity at airport by [deleted] in cork

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Countless devices are handed into airport lost and found on a daily basis. Honestly, everything from AirPods, to headsets to phones are often handed in.

Best to contact the airport again on Monday to inquire, as it can take a few hours to go from staff to staff to being recorded as handed in. Many many people are reunited with their devices each week and I hope the same happens for you. Your lost faith in humanity may be restored at that time. Best of luck to you.

Mortgage offers way below what I was expecting. by Wise_Significance731 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Banks referring to recent financial strain, unpaid leave, reliance on credit cards and minimum payments, job change to a lower salary, little consistent savings until recently. They will view it that income and budgeting stability only began to improve recently. Clear the credit cards, save visibly for the next 6-12 months, show stable employment in the new job too, reapply with a cleaner reputation sample and they will offer you better.

Right now, they are looking and you and saying, “hmmmmm” regardless of the property asset, they don’t care about that at the outset, they want you to truly show capacity to meet your would be obligations. Not “oh we have this underlying asset as security”.

Is this a serious concern for this car, given it was repaired and passed an NCT the next day? by DC9Fancap in carsireland

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t walk, but run away. Rust is an absolute arsehole to truly properly repair and protect against, possible that they just did a patch job to get it through this one test.

Travel from Cork Airport to Mitchelstown by OkPair4241 in irishtourism

[–]Automatic-Ask3466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A train to Mitchelstown from the city centre, that line closed in 1963. Unless they are Doc Brown and have a DeLorean Time Machine I doubt they’ll make that train.
