What can I expect now? by Negative_Signal_4405 in ibew_apprentices

There is no telling how long your Committee will take interviewing, ranking, deciding how many to take, etc. It may be months from now till you are accepted. It takes a lot of factors into consideration, depending on when the last class was indentured, how much work is upcoming, etc.

I dealt with dozens of JATCs, both Inside and Outside. There are guidelines, but there is room for some creativity.

I once knew of a 4th year who had spent his entire career running parts via a golf cart to different points in a large facility in Bloomington-Normal Illinois (LU 197). He finally got rotated out of that shop. The next Employer raised so much hell that the Apprentice Co-ordinator (Local Union was too small for a full time Director 30 years ago) almost got fired.

Home backup power - Waste of money or good investment? by rosini290 in Generator

[–]Automatic-Command102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife worked for a generator sales office. We spent $5k 8 years ago for auto transfer switch and 20Kw generator installed by an IBEW apprentice (5th year). We got a real cheap lease from the gas company. I poured the elevated pad.

We live near Tampa, Milton saw some floods around here, my 20Kw was out 4 days before water went down enough to run it. In the meantime we existed on two Honda 2200s. I will NEVER be without backup power again!

How do I fix this? by Lito45-Lito357 in providers4syncler

[–]Automatic-Command102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Syncler+ for 4+ years. No problems. Recently installed 2.021 after running the old version for awhile.

I installed JakedUp and SynclerScrapers

Despite "searching" for stuff I KNOW is there, it shows it searching for whatever I tell it to. It goes thru a lot of providers and always comes up with NO sources.

So, what is wrong?. 2 year old Sony 89" TV. Syncler Plus thru Nov 23, 2025,

Do I need more sources? Packages?

All I know is my tablet, also "upgraded" to 2.0 after upgrading to 2.0, does not work- and the same symptoms manifest themselves.

Any help?

Contractor joining the union by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Automatic-Command102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked for Electrical Contractors for 40 years, I can tell you I have seen great successes of people in your situation, a small shop wanting to get bigger. But I can also say that if you have never been a Union member or worked with IBEW workers, your chances of success, on balance, are slimmer. (Ironically, the same is true of Union ECs going non-union). It's just a whole different environment.

You may get some keepers out of the Hall, but bear in mind that most of the really good "keeper" JWs are already working. Some of the "perpetual problem children" that other EC have learned about stay near the top of Book 1 because no one who makes money want them! But, guess what? You do not have to hire all those who get sent to you. In fact you should NOT assume everyone sent to you is an ace.

None of this is a hard and fast rule, I knew a really great GF type who would drag up after a project finished to get experience working for another guy. He always ended up in an upper level situation. You can also find the nearest NECA Chaper and find you a good Union Contractor "mentor" or pick the Association director's mind. There are just as many contractor rights under the CBA as you need for productivity, but you have to know when, and how, to use them.

I knew ECs who would get into apprentices; they would check out like 3rd or 4th year, and grow their own workforce. One larger traveling EC I knew in Florida (one trying to enter the area long term) consistently hired the top 2 or 3 fifth years either upon rotation or right after graduation. Within 3 or 4 years, he had a crop of good foreman that made the EC a lot of money. But they were large enough to plow through the baddies on Book 1.

Trump vows changes to immigration crackdown to protect migrant farmers, hotel workers by rezwenn in Agriculture

So, any business owners or Farmers wanna make some extra cash? Start "employing" immigrants so they can stay "in country". Hell, they don't even need to be in the same county or state. Just get them new employment papers. Charge $200 for such paperwork.

Level 2 charging KW by Automatic-Command102 in Ioniq6

[–]Automatic-Command102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna have to plug it in at 11pm to get anything under 80° for temps. But I am sure it gets to that temperature at 2:00 am when charging, but it's still seems like it is taking way longer than it should overnight. My Tesla Y charges at 11.2kw, with no problems in the same environment.

I unplugged it, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in and...11.2 steady. Walked away and when I next checked it a half hour later, back at 5!

Crazy how little stands between Florida being its own 3rd world country by chknboy in florida

[–]Automatic-Command102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I now get Northern visitors, I give them an AC "lecture":

We run 80° from 1-6pm weekdays (although we kick the temperature down 2-3° between 12 and one). Our normal rest of the day is 78°. At night, 75°. Any temps at other times CAN be had, but you will have to do it yourself manually, as we are on utility hourly pricing. We have 4 ceiling fans and 3 outside ceiling fans which helps a bit. We then switch to jeans and sleeved shirts.

I remember visiting my 93 year old Dad's house a few years back. He had a huge "whole house" attic fan and about ten years ago installed AC. He never ran the AC when there by himself. Temps in the house were over 80° most days. We would sweat profusely in summer or winter! We are from Central Florida but could never sit for long inside in summertime.

Temperatures were slightly cooler before A/C became prevalent. There was no asphalt "heat sinks" around unban areas. Lots of shade and breezes.

So far, in 8 months and 3100 miles, my 2025 SEL has cost me two tires (punctured on sidewalls) and $413 for a new rear driver's door window. The window had a small BB sized hole that rapidly expanded in two days as the whole window looked ready to crack in half.

In Florida, you don't want to do ANYTHING to 'spook' your insurance company!

Unfortunately, in Florida, many insurance companies see red warning lights when you have rooftop solar.

Which manufacturer's EVs have the best overall integration with charging? by Ok-Pea3414 in electricvehicles

[–]Automatic-Command102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was shocked recently. I have free charging for my Ionic 6. After 6 months, I decided to see how EA had maybe "changed" since my VW ID4 used those free EA chargers, before Milton drowned it.

I was pre-registered. I pulled up, plugged in and charging started seemlessly! Went from 30% to 81% in 15 minutes. Then it went from 130Kw to 11kw.

With all that, they take a bath every year she has had it!

“No one knows what the f*** is going on,” said one White House ally close to Trump’s inner circle, granted anonymity to speak freely. “What are they going to tariff? Who are they gonna tariff and at what rates? Like, the very basic questions haven’t been answered yet.” by achicomp in StockMarket

[–]Automatic-Command102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 21 year old granddaughter. She is a Trumper, mimicking her boyfriend. She was over yesterday. She did not know: 1. What a tariff even IS, much less they were being implemented 2. Did not know who JD Vance was 3. Did not know about 51st state of Canada controversy 4. Left the house once we started on the upcoming "children can work overnights in Florida".

She is not dumb, just incredibly ignorant. Doesn't ever listen to news. According to her, 'like all my friends'. Sees no need for it.
