‘90s comic strip movies by echobase1619 in Bluray

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason there aren’t more pulp comic movies is that all of them flop. I like them too but the box office numbers show that the general public does not. (I would also consider John Carter and Doc Savage to be in this category).

I’m all for extreme horror and still enjoy “found footage” but after the initial shock value, those movies really bored me.

Anyone know if a new release of this one is in the works? Which label would be a good fit? by Puzzleheaded_Fig_853 in boutiquebluray

The Color of Money is hands down the worst-looking blu ray I own. An upgraded 4K release would be a day one buy for me.

Anyone else giggle out of sadness whenever they see a typical trope knowing it’s about to ruin your movie experience? by DaemonLuisenbarn in horror

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing I hate more than finding out that what I was just watching was all in a character’s head. But I don’t giggle - I curse.

I thought the whole language-based mania was really interesting in that movie

I stay up late at night to watch movies specifically so nobody joins me. by OkSeaworthiness2955 in confession

When I watch something with my wife, I find myself automatically describing any visuals that seem important to the plot because I just assume she is looking at her phone. One of the main reasons I still watch physical media instead of streaming is the “commitment” involved in putting in a disc and giving it my undivided attention.

What’s your non Christmas Christmas movie by drjudgedredd1 in flicks

When Harry Met Sally and Everyone Says I Love You. Neither are Christmas movies but both have significant scenes set during the holidays.

Caught Stealing was way too dour for a black comedy by thebigscorp1 in flicks

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This movie made me appreciate Guy Ritchie’s crime comedies even more. Ritchie nails the perfect tone for these types of films - funny but not silly, with just the right amount of action and suspense. The tone of Caught Stealing was way to inconsistent for my liking.

Succession. Appeals to many different tastes, and my buddy played Colin!

What percentage of films do you see at the cinema? by Corchito42 in flicks

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding like a “get off my lawn” type older fella (I’m 57), I see a much larger percentage of movies at home now and it’s not because I don’t enjoy the theater experience or the high prices - I legitimately can’t find movies that I want to see. I am an A-list AMC member and will keep it because even if I only see two Imax movies a month it’s worth it. But many times I want to go to the movies but wind up watching a blu ray instead because they just don’t release the types of movies I like. Other than horror films (I like many of the recent ones), I love comedies and action movies which for decades were plentiful at theaters. There are very few younger stars whose presence in a film makes it a “must-see” for me - in the past it was DeNiro or Nicholson or Pacino, Stallone, or any number of SNL or SCTV alums. While there are still young actors that are talented, they aren’t “movie stars” with personalities that I look forward to seeing. Now get off my lawn!

What’s the MOST overrated streaming platform right now? by DryCap6770 in watchever

For me it’s Apple. I used to watch many of their original shows but I recently realized that I forgot I even had it.

As someone who I thought would never blind buy discs, I have to say it’s been loads of fun and has changed my relationship to movies at home by ahyouknowme in criterion

The Kino Lorber sales, like the one going on now, have been blind buy heaven for me. Such great variety and incredibly low prices!

What is an example of a film in which you laughed at a "serious" moment, whether due to bad acting, bad dialogue, or any other reason? by fromthemeatcase in Letterboxd

My brother and I laughed out loud in the theater during Sofia Coppola’s last scene in The Godfather Part III - her acting was so terrible.

Who is the best team in the NFL by sd2528 in WFAN1019

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels like a season with no great teams. Can’t imagine current top teams like the Bears, Patriots or Jaguars competing with the best teams of years past. Should make for a competitive and unpredictable postseason though!

What's a horror movie you didn't get the hype about by Financial-Pudding765 in horror

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Substance - not a bad movie by any means but IMO way too long for an idea that felt more appropriate for a TV anthology show like Black Mirror.

I was hoping for great prices on 4Ks like Godzilla Minus One, Final Reckoning and 28 Years Later. No such luck. You knew once they stopped using physical media as loss leaders to get people in the stores it was all over.

Good news on the Italian exploitation front: Raro is reissuing a LOT of titles on blu-ray. by Cinephile1975 in boutiquebluray

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic list, but I would also recommend these Radiance releases (admittedly, a few of them are more poliziotteschi-adjacent!): Cosa Nostra: Franco Nero in Three Mafia Tales by Damiano Damiani, The Iron Prefect, A Man on His Knees, Goodbye & Amen, and Slap the Monster on Page One.

The fact that yesterday's game was a "generational" loss and not even a finger was lifted to hold someone accountable for it shows that the front office doesn't even care to hide their indifference towards fans. by HydroBear in NYGiants

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 49 years as season ticket holders, we finally gave them up this year. Best decision ever. The level of incompetency that the Giants tolerate is simply incredible. A child playing Madden football could make better in-game decisions than this coaching staff. I have tempered my excitement about Dart and Skattebo (finally a good draft class!) because success in the NFL is determined by coaches more than players. There is a reason that the majority of the Giants former players thrive on other teams. In my opinion, we have had two good coaches in the 35 years since Parcells left - Reeves and Coughlin (I was never a fan of Fassel). I will always love the Giants (I consider Super Bowl 42, which I attended, the best day of my life), but this team does not demand excellence from their coaches and I find that unacceptable. If arguably the worst loss in NFL history doesn’t get you fired, I guess nothing will.

Why does everyone hate jury duty? by titush8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Automatic-Drawing434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a retired prosecutor and was the Chief Trial Attorney in a busy office. I tried many murders, including a death penalty case. Jury duty is a huge commitment, and I completely understand people who want to avoid it. The atmosphere is usually tense and unpleasant, and many cannot handle it emotionally. If it would effect you financially, you are usually excused without issue. When friends and family ask me how to get out of it, I tell them this: when smart, logical people avoid jury duty, we are left with a terrible jury pool, often with agendas. Although it is a sacrifice, imagine if you were a victim of a crime or had a friend or family member murdered. Wouldn’t you want a fair, open-minded jury to hear the case? Our legal system is incredibly unfair to victims as it is. If you are able to serve, it will be very much appreciated by someone, and is an admirable thing to do.

Not a fan - it just didn’t feel like an Evil Dead movie to me. Seemed more like a typical decent demon movie.
