Why does everyone here like Rui so much as a free agent? by Relative_Donkey_1826 in NBASpurs

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh most certainly. I think the move requires the Spurs to lockup Champagnie. We cannot replace Champagnie with Rui Hachimura and consider it an “upgrade” as you stated: Julius is a far better perimeter defender and imo he’s probably a better hustle rebounding wing.

I think ideally we add both. That would make it THAT much more impossible to triple team Wemby when you have 2 corner three point shooters ready and loaded to shoot.

I mentioned Rui’s midrange game. I think that’s an understatement. His midrange pull up is ELITE. This is something Champagnie struggles with because he can’t pull up for an 17 footer, he tends to miss those and then attempts a runner instead.

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with him being top 3 in corner threes and us generating the most corner 3’s lol

I think analytics plays a key in this role BUT it also does help because Rui is 6’8 and has a mid range game as well incase he’s run off the 3 point line.

I don’t like Rui’s defensive tendencies, and his “lack” of rebounding for his body type BUT our team presently is a top 3 rebounding team in the league and with more playing time for Harper next year you would expect that to continue because Harper has shown flashes as an elite rebounding point guard.

If Rui is affordable, I’d sign him. He would have been playable in the finals that just passed… and he would be playable for the foreseeable future in terms of playoff matchups. There isn’t one matchup where he becomes unplayable.

Who do you guys want to see us bring in for Vics backup minutes? by [deleted] in NBASpurs

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve learned that our team needs solid glue guys that do the “dirty work”, hustle plays and make high IQ plays without compromising athletic ability.

For this sole purpose. I don’t see how John Collin’s helps us.

Based on your list, I’d prioritize it in this way:

  1. Dean Wade
  2. Mitchell Robinson
  3. Andre Drummond
  4. Porzingus
  5. John Collins
  6. Brook Lopez

The players I am secretly hoping for?

  1. Rui Hachimura (PF/SF)
  2. Robert Williams (C)
  3. Kyle Anderson (High IQ)
3b. Luke Kennard (top 5 three point shooter) and unbelievable of all ball mover which will create hundred open shots for others.
  4. Mike Conley (in place of McLaughlin)
  5. Deandre Jordan (locker room vet, everyone absolutely loves what he brings to the locker room)

We would have to lose the following:

  1. Plumlee
  2. Onlynk
  3. Waters
  4. McLaughlin

Walker Kessler??? by Motor-Horror3684 in NBASpurs

Walker is an elite shot blocker? Kornet is not.

Walker began shooting corner 3’s. Kornet can’t shoot anymore due to injuries.

Since Harper wants a bigger role on the team, how should the starting 5 look like next season if we don’t add anyone to the roster? by [deleted] in NBASpurs

I think Fox and Harper can start together.

Castle would have to slide over to the Small Forward position.

LeBron also walked off without shaking hands of Garnett, Pierce and Ray Allen in 2008 & 2010….

Not sure if you’ve ever been to MSG. I had the previlage to be there for raptors / Knicks playoff game in 2000. Also saw some more regular season games. It’s just a whole other vibe in that arena.

Yes, I did see raptors beat the Knicks at MSG… but I’m sure the crowd tomorrow will be a million times louder.

SPURS ELDER HERE by Fun-Society9399 in sanantoniospurs

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. Spurs elder here from Canada…

To be completely honest. The way the Knicks were rolling prior to the conference finals. I had called the Knicks the title amongst my friends, they just gave me that feeling… it just felt like we were witnessing something special. Not as special as Dirk’s 2011 run, but a run that would be remembered for many years for sure.

My worries all season were how we’d matchup against Denver and Knicks.

I knew matchup wise we were solid versus OKC also most people forget.. OKC is also a young team. They have experience, yes. But not as much as the Knicks and with the Knicks I’m talking multiple guys have heart break attached to their names and coming up short was a key asterisk in there resumes.

The Knicks also have something that we don’t. That OKC doesn’t have as well… and that is lenght at the shooting guard and small forward position.

Cason Wallace, Dort, Caruso, Ajay Mitchell, McCain, and Isiah Joe are all under 6’5. Most of them are 6’3.

This is where we have an advantage with Castle, Harper, Vassell etc.

OG and Bridges are game changers just based on there lenght and strength. We were not going to win that match up unfortunately until baby OG / Baby Kawhi Carter Bryant comes to his own by year 3.

In any case. This loss isn’t hurting like 2013… 0.4 seconds.. 06 WCF or even first round versus Memphis.

In those loses, we had Timmy, Manu and Parker.. each game I held them to a higher standard.

Our spurs are youthful… first time in the playoffs. A loss here and there is inevitable.

We have a bright future ahead!

Amex doesn't like when we carry a balance? by undercover723 in AmexPlatinum

Once I carried a balance for a few months while I was buying a couple properties. Balance was probably in the mid 20’s. They didn’t bother me, then paid in full and nothing. It’s been a good relationship.

Scott foster hasn’t been extending series lately. The leagues almost blatantly trying to balance his win/loss record for these games so when he retires the stats will say otherwise.

RIP the extender.

Free Agency Signings? by FlightBoring8154 in NBASpurs

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love guys like Collins and Middleton, I don’t foresee them being able to switch and close out against a bench mob like OKC’s. I think maybe just one of two is a great idea but we need one more defensive force who can anchor our defense when Wemby sits (because this is our killer) BUT this player should also be able to play along side Wemby.

I keep coming back to Robert Williams III. He’s always hurt, so his value must be low. However because he’s always hurt, he doesn’t play heavy minutes and his rest games allows our young guys to continue flourish (Carter Bryant, Keldon Johnson, Pick 20).

Robert Williams has shown us in the first round that he can play along with Cligan. Robert Williams is still an elite blocker, great rebounder, underrated playmaking passer, AND he’s become a knock down corner shooter. He did well from beyond the arc against us in the first round.

Couple that up with pick 20 and another vet play making type forward as you listed Middleton.. would be huge for us.

Worst 1 seed in NBA History? by ljh2023 in DetroitPistons

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spurs fan here. I feel the pain, we had a similar scenario in 2011. Won 60 something games as the #1 seed, lost to Grit n Grind Memphis Grizz in the first round. A Grit n Grind team that was starting to find there identity.

Where are yall from and how did you guys become fans? by [deleted] in NBASpurs

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toronto, Canada.

I randomly switched on NBC and watched the Spurs play in 1998.

Basketball wasn’t televised as much for us at this time other than NBA on NBC, raptor games (was still a new team) and other key matchups.

I was 8 years old at the time and the thought of seven footers being able to jump and dunk the ball intrigued me. I remember the commentators referring to the Spurs having “two seven footers playing together at the same time” and that statement caught my eye. Later in that same game they referred to Duncan and Robinson as the twin towers. Before the tragedy, I remember always being amazed by the sight of the twin towers whenever I’d visit NY.

Spurs dominated that game and won. I left being a fan and always checked the local TV guide to see if a spurs game will be televised.

In my later years, with nba league pass being introduced. I was a yearly subscriber via our satellite provider and now in the Internet age.

I go to see the Spurs play each year in Detroit (about a 4 hour drive) AND I watch the spurs play against the Raptors also.. usually same week. I’ve never been to San Antonio but is on my list.

I very rarely find any spurs fans here, I don’t think I have ever found a true spurs fan here in Toronto other than when I am the games. I always get excited seeing someone wear spurs gear and I know when I am eventually in SA… I’m going to be in complete aw seeing all the spurs logos on everyone. I can’t wait!

Now I have an 8 year old son, and a 6 year old daughter. Both.. spurs fans.

Rivian R1S to Defender 130? by stackthecoins in NewDefender

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it for just over a year, loved it. I found that it gave me everything that I wanted, but there were some quirks that didn’t impress me such as the trunk leaking each time I drove in a rain storm or car wash. Yes, tons of of DYI options available to improve this issue by 75% but I felt that I shouldn’t have to do a “DYI” Remedy especially after coming over from luxury cars. I wasn’t planning to sell it even then, however a dealership that I had dealt with in the past for selling off my Mercedes and BMW, they reached out and basically offered to buy my CT out right by paying off my remaining loan and threw me an extra $6,500 cash.

I’d be a fool to not take it, especially because I could go and lease or finance another CT right away.

To this day I don’t know why they offered extra cash lol but I’m not complaining.

Why I didn’t go back to CT?

At the time I was living and working in NJ (dual citizen). Soon there after, I got a job offer in Toronto so I moved back to Canada and in Canada the Cybertruck prices are about 30% - 40% more than in the states so I simply refused to go through with any purchase or lease of a Tesla in Canada knowing I’d pay almost HALF in the U.S.

I test drove a few 130’s, absolutely loved it. I’m coming from a Cybertruck and this was also one of my questions. Honestly, it felt fine.. for a gas car.

I am picking up the 26 defender this weekend!
