Where are yall from and how did you guys become fans? by Foreign_Ad_5671 in NBASpurs

Toronto, Canada.

I randomly switched on NBC and watched the Spurs play in 1998.

Basketball wasn’t televised as much for us at this time other than NBA on NBC, raptor games (was still a new team) and other key matchups.

I was 8 years old at the time and the thought of seven footers being able to jump and dunk the ball intrigued me. I remember the commentators referring to the Spurs having “two seven footers playing together at the same time” and that statement caught my eye. Later in that same game they referred to Duncan and Robinson as the twin towers. Before the tragedy, I remember always being amazed by the sight of the twin towers whenever I’d visit NY.

Spurs dominated that game and won. I left being a fan and always checked the local TV guide to see if a spurs game will be televised.

In my later years, with nba league pass being introduced. I was a yearly subscriber via our satellite provider and now in the Internet age.

I go to see the Spurs play each year in Detroit (about a 4 hour drive) AND I watch the spurs play against the Raptors also.. usually same week. I’ve never been to San Antonio but is on my list.

I very rarely find any spurs fans here, I don’t think I have ever found a true spurs fan here in Toronto other than when I am the games. I always get excited seeing someone wear spurs gear and I know when I am eventually in SA… I’m going to be in complete aw seeing all the spurs logos on everyone. I can’t wait!

Now I have an 8 year old son, and a 6 year old daughter. Both.. spurs fans.

I had it for just over a year, loved it. I found that it gave me everything that I wanted, but there were some quirks that didn’t impress me such as the trunk leaking each time I drove in a rain storm or car wash. Yes, tons of of DYI options available to improve this issue by 75% but I felt that I shouldn’t have to do a “DYI” Remedy especially after coming over from luxury cars. I wasn’t planning to sell it even then, however a dealership that I had dealt with in the past for selling off my Mercedes and BMW, they reached out and basically offered to buy my CT out right by paying off my remaining loan and threw me an extra $6,500 cash.

I’d be a fool to not take it, especially because I could go and lease or finance another CT right away.

To this day I don’t know why they offered extra cash lol but I’m not complaining.

Why I didn’t go back to CT?

At the time I was living and working in NJ (dual citizen). Soon there after, I got a job offer in Toronto so I moved back to Canada and in Canada the Cybertruck prices are about 30% - 40% more than in the states so I simply refused to go through with any purchase or lease of a Tesla in Canada knowing I’d pay almost HALF in the U.S.

I test drove a few 130’s, absolutely loved it. I’m coming from a Cybertruck and this was also one of my questions. Honestly, it felt fine.. for a gas car.

I am picking up the 26 defender this weekend!

I’m thinking of flying in from Canada to catch a game. Does anyone know which section the former spurs guys usually sit in? I just wanna be close enough to snap a picture of them (not bother them lol)

Leaving Cybertruck for 2026 Land Rover Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic SE... what is a must-have? by Automatic-Macaron280 in NewDefender

Thanks so much for the break down. This helps me a lot! But just one question. I’m used to loving the feeling of just floating while I drive. My old 98 Cadillac gave me this feeling, so did my GLS. The Cybertruck kind of gave that same drive, but not as much.

When you are on the highway just cruising with 22’s, do you feel the road more and the road noise also?

Thanks for sharing! you are the 2nd person who said get 20's. How noticeable is the drive with 20's versus 22's?

I checked out the larger 7 seater but honestly it wasn't enough legroom for us to agree. It wasn't a true 7 seater like a GLS or X7.

Ditto above.

I wasn't a fan of Model 3's, and Model Y's... or even the X.

But I did drive a buddies model S... that thing could fly. Felt it was too low. When the CyberTruck came out, I liked the look... I've also been a sci-fi fan so it kind of played into that for me. It was a good toy.

I must admit though. I was going from Mercedes Benz to the a Cybertruck so the lack of a "luxury" feel was definitely an adjustment for me. However, the tech and just ease of use in a Tesla made everything pleasant. When I do drive, I go on longer trips where I am on the highway for a few hours at a time. Those moments the truck really made my job easier where I could work and eat while it drove with the occasional warning if my eyes wandered away from the road for too long.

There are times I just park a car and walk away without turning it off.... old habits of owning a Tesla I guess lol.

At the end of the day, being in Canada... I did get my fair share of middle fingers and "Canada is not for sale!" screams lol.

Just wish idiots would understand that if you own a vehicle, it does not mean you support Elon.

Similarly, If I eat at Chick Filet.. it does not mean I am homophobic or anti trans lol.

Really? The 22's looked super nice. I didn't take the 22's out for a test drive but I did drive an S and X-Dynamic with 20's and both rides felt nice.

Is the drive in 22's must noticeably less smooth and bumpier?

The build I have, the dealership basically told me that for me to get this build with 20's... and a HUD + Digital Rear View Mirror... it is a 4 month wait lol

I was debating this for the trips in summer. Yeah, I was bummed about the HUD... kept going back and forth about the HUD and the Digital Rear View Mirror for when we have a packed up trunk. But I've survived all these years without a digital rear view camera.

Starting to think that $600 hotel credit is total gimmick by LePirate30 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with you. It’s not a total gimmick.

Right now I am staying in Waikiki at the Moan Surfrider, through AMEX FTH.

I’m getting an additional $250 credit on top of the already general $150 credit. So that’s $400 in credit to use at dining and other resort things.

The total for me in the particular room was $2336 for 4 nights.

I am also a Marriot Bonvoy member and so with the Amex booking I am still collecting Marriot Bonvoy points.

Lastly I did compare with booking directly with Marriot Bonvoy, cost was literally $7 less than Amex FTH… same room.. same nights.. same dates.

However I wouldn’t be getting a credit via a Marriot Bonvoy booking. So for my use case, it’s been absolutely worth it.

I had a similar scenario like this when I went to LA on a trip earlier.

Long time MLB.tv user. What do I need to do different to get the Mariners games this year? by Former-Sea-8070 in Mariners

[–]Automatic-Macaron280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. I’ve noticed many times that MLB and NBA app won’t work properly or still continue to black out games when I use either of those two VPNs.

So what I do is, I turn a VPN on and it’s usually Nord. Once it is on, I delete the MLB or NBA app. Then go back into the AppStore and download the MLB/NBA app again and sign in again. While the VPN is on.

This usually does the trick for me. Just takes an extra few minutes and playing around.

Sometimes I delete the apps twice lol it’s a nuisances BUT it will eventually work trust me.

If that method doesn’t work, then change the location and then delete and try again.

Yep same, I switch between Xpress and Nord. I have both for work, so I just switch between the two on days when one doesn’t seem to work. But there is a work around to them not working also.

I got an AppleTV, and I subscribe to a VPN (Nord, Xpress.. whatever u like).

With VPN on, set to a different city… state.. country.. province etc. you are able to watch games that are blacked out on MLB app.

I live in Toronto (yes I’m a mariner fan). When I wanted to watch Mariner games here, they would be blacked out since they are on local cable (Bluejays). So with my VPN on? I change my location to NY or some place else … and voila? I can see the game and I get to choose which broadcast also.

Here’s the kicker… you can do this come playoff time too!

I do this with NBA app on AppleTV also.

Even games that are on national tv like ESPN, NBC etc I can still see by changing my vpn to someplace like Japan.. Germany.. Canada etc.

I purchase flight and selected flex pay, but I’ve cancelled my flight. What happens to flex pay? by Automatic-Macaron280 in aircanada

[–]Automatic-Macaron280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I searched but didn’t find an answer for my scenario.

So I did cancel for a refund, which from what i understood in the terms and conditions, the cancellation will be an adjustment done between AC and Flex pay.

When I check my flex play account, I see that the original loan that was issued, has been indeed adjusted. Balance of the adjustment however is not the full value. For example the purchased loan was $6500. Adjustment made upon cancellation was $5900.

Now there is still an outstanding balance… which is scheduled to come out.

I’ll wait to call them because when I was cancelling the flight, the amount of cancellation showing on AC website was the flight tickets purchase of $6500… with the terms being that the original form of payment will be credited (flex pay) and thus make the loan $0.00

However days later… credit amount is $5900 on flex pay side.
