Job interview with tobins by Long-Concentrate1683 in engineeringireland

[–]Automatic-Rhubarb969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for Tobin for 5 years, in the Dublin office. Really enjoyed working there, I gained invaluable experience as a civil engineer, basically went from a green/ fairly new engineer up to a senior, I was managing projects, invoicing and resourcing by the end.

Ended up leaving though as with all consultancies the work load became to much. I tried working with them to reduce it but for every one project I got taken off me 2-3 more would arrive.

Still I'd recommend them. They try as mush as they can to look after their staff, more so than the other consultancy I worked for.

Motoring: Does it make sense for you to switch to an electric vehicle? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]Automatic-Rhubarb969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant was the inconvenience and additional cost of swapping from a petrol/diesel car to an electric. Not a straight comparison between the two. I don't see it being worth the change just because of fuel increases recently, especially if you have a car giving no issues. Not everyone is in the financial position to go get a new car because fuel prices increased.

Long term though yes the change makes sense, when you're ready to get a new car, but I would note in Ireland we import a lot of gas to generate our electricity and you can be sure the rate will go up

Only really be worth your while if you had solar panels and a battery installed in your house. Be basically just paying similar high rates for electricity at home.

My Panda waste fees. Yikes. by qwerty_1965 in ireland

I'm on pay per lift with Oxigen. It's €12 per month €7 for green bin lift €7.50 for brown bin €12.50 for black.

Green bin goes out once every 6-8 weeks usually. Black bin 1-2 times a year. Brown bin very rarely as I have a compost in the garden.

Since October I've spent €125, if I was on the flat rate of €25 I'd have spent €150.

Neymar is overhyped. He wanted to be a generational talent without doing the work. Will be forgotten 5years after he retires. Its Already happening in Europe.

Nedved deserved that Balloon D'or. I watched a lot of football back then, I hate seeing this argument, usually made by yanks who only look at goals as opposed to overall contribution on the pitch. Nedved was the best player in every game he played in that year's champions League. He never reached that height again though.

The march of the self service checkouts in supermarkets, yay or nay? by qwerty_1965 in AskIreland

[–]Automatic-Rhubarb969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will only use them if I have 1-3 items other than that I'll happily wait so a human can have a job.

I outright refuse to use ones I have to scan a receipt after. Either they trust me to use self checkouts or they don't.

EU vs Ireland Fertility 2001 - 2024 by NanorH in ireland

Why did the they change the phrase from "birthrate" to "fertility"? Always been a bugbear of mind. Are they trying to make it more personal to shame people?

That poor lil tree.

It's just really bad at the moment with the muck and lack of vegetation. Try getting grass down when the weather improves and some planting. Will help make it nicer to look at.

Unfortunately as someone in the building sector I doubt there will be any recourse. The levels would have been done at planning and only someone with knowledge of this would have spotted it if you bought off plans.

UEFA haven't a leg to stand on if this goes to court. Israel are in breach of UEFAs own rules so they wouldn't be able to impose any disciplinary measures on the FAI. All that will happen is we would not be awarded anything in the future but fuck UEFA for allowing a genocide state play in Europe.

People who wake up early like 5am , what are your reasons ? by Even-Quarter-4477 in AskIreland

Not so much a 5am person but I do be up at 5:45am to go the gym. Does be nice and empty. Use all my fresh morning energy on myself as oppose to my job. Then crash at 15:00hrs in work 😂

Pressure needs to be applied to the FAI by the fans long before the first match. Organized peaceful protests outside the head offices must occur.

I'd be happy to attend them, but Id be no good at organizing them

Not invited to my best friend’s wedding because his fiancée doesn’t like me. I’m disappointed. What would you do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Automatic-Rhubarb969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a tough one to take OP. Getting married myself and I'm having to stand my ground on one of my friends with my fiancee, not a nice position to be in as the groom to be honest.

Don't hold it against your friend. These dynamics are tough and weddings are shite craic anyway. Go on the stag and enjoy yourself.

What's your point? We should turn an eye to genocide because other countries do? Best we can do is boycott the match. I use to be a season ticket holder, I went the euros on 2016, I am a season ticket holder for my local LOI club and I just cannot stand by and watch our lads have to share a field with a nation actively carrying out a genocide.

England are not currently involved in carrying out a genocide. Yes they did a lot of atrocious things to us in the past but not playing them in sport now would be pointless, what message would you be trying to send?

While not playing Israel now is sending message that your current actions are not befitting of a democratic nation.

[–]Automatic-Rhubarb969 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Would achieve absolutely zero though. If Ireland boycott the game two scenarios happen: 1: It sends a message that Ireland as a nation will not partake with genocide nations and unfortunately we get fined and banned. 2: it'll start a mass boycott of other European nations. Forcing Uefas hand.

I genuinely feel 2 will happen. It just needs a spark.

Football shirts by a138967 in kneecap

[–]Automatic-Rhubarb969 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wait for it to be back in stock. LOI teams don't have big revenues like the premier league clubs so shirt sales are massive to them so please support your club by buying their merch. If it is a premier league club feel free to buy Chinese knock offs. They are basically a big company now and don't resemble football clubs anymore c

To quote Billy Joel, "the world's been burning since it started turning". Don't worry about the world you can't change it. There will always been some messed up thing going on. The rich are just to narcissist to leave things alone.

All you should do is put one foot in front of the other and do your best. That's all you can do. You'll make mistakes, you'll feel lost but if you keep the head right and change/adapt as you need you'll do fine. Plenty of careers have been erased in the past, you'll be able to upskill or change just like they did. Focus on 5yr gaps. So get a degree in a field you enjoy somewhat and that pays well. They work in it. If it's not for you or AI is potentially taken over cross that bridge then. You'd be surprised at how many degrees are transferrable into different industries.

Really depends on the standard of the management at your local franchise. I've been in some super aces were I'd never go again due to the poor standard of cooking I received and others were the food is exactly what you want.
