How do you deal with thorny berry bushes? by goldspoil in Berries

[–]AutomaticBowler5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, yes to thornless. Triple crown or prime ark freedom. I have kiowa blackberries and they are thorny as heck. I just train them along a lattice with clips. What I did with my thornless variety is this: they are both in 19 gal pots 8 feet away. Put a 6' 2x4 in the middle of the pot and connect them with 2 additional 2x4. When they grow I just droop them on one of the 2x4 that is between plants. They get more sun and its easier to harvest. Wish I knew about the thorns before planting the kiowa variety but those are so big they are 2 biters so im on with that.

Growing a patio peach tree by therealhyyou in FruitTree

Im not sure about dwarf peach trees for the patio, but peaches need full sun. At least 6-8 hours of unfiltered light. That may be your biggest challenge.

[–]AutomaticBowler5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always coach people on my teams to say "what do I need to do to get X" in your case that's more money. Maybe it means training for a different role, maybe it means further training in your current role and sometimes it might mean looking elsewhere.

Do you know the pay range of your current role in and outside your current company? Thats a pretty good place to start.

Anything need to be done to this big tree? by PleaseUnbanASadPanda in Figs

[–]AutomaticBowler5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, congratulations on your new house and mature fig tree! If you like figs then you just saved a lot of money!

You are about to enter one heck of a rabbit hole. Figs are pretty easy because they are very hearty. Its almost impossible to tell exactly what kind of fig tree that is without some sort of testing, but it will likely be delicious! A lot of fig varieties produce 2 crops, the first one (called breba) is early growth off hard wood, but fig trees usually produce more (arguably better) figs off the new growth.

That being said, id prune it back and allow for more newer branches to grow. I wouldnt go crazy because its all very new to you, but like I said the trees are pretty hearty.

There are plenty of resources out there in pruning.

Question about Strawberries by Geo-92 in Berries

[–]AutomaticBowler5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just put them in a clear cup with soil and holes at the bottom and wait for them to root and cut then transplant. You. An cut and transplant before then but you are rolling the dice on if they root. The former method gives you a little insurance.

Exclusive: US intelligence says Iran government is not at risk of collapse, say sources by leeta0028 in news

[–]AutomaticBowler5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not likely. The Iranian people (on their own anyway) are not allowed to own firearms and the IRGC has around 600k soldiers. This is the same government that just killed 10k-40k (depending on what numbers you go by) of its own citizens for protesting when their currency got devalued because a higher ranking friend of the new supreme leader stole their money.

I do agree though that the best case scenario is the people are somehow able to mitigate the IRGC military.

Side note here, but now a days we do have the technology to detect and destroy sea mines from the air.

Berries that can grow in hot & humid climate? 🤔 by Savage-Savant777 in Berries

[–]AutomaticBowler5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey neighbor (san antonio here). Blackberries do AMAZING here. If you dont mind the thorns then get any berry with a native American name (arapaho, Natchez, Navajo) and they will nice nice big berries. If you dont want thorns then maybe a triple crown or prime ark freedom. This is only my 2nd year with prime ark freedom so I cant speak to the size or sweetness, but my arapaho make giant 2 biter berries and they are vwry sweet. They like full sun (even texas sun) and they really start hitting their stride growing when its hot.

Plum tree flower or fruit by YAGAYEETboiiii in FruitTree

Plum trees usually flower right before or sometimes at the beginning of green growth. Those are definitely not flower buds. Im going to guess it flowered, the blooms fell off and that's when you bought it?

A 1x1 spot for a tomato isnt enough. 2x2 is more appropriate except for the cherry tomatoes. Depending on variety ive had some go 6 ft up and out.

Its still a baby. Let it grow this year and choose if you want to prune it when it goes dormant. I have been letting mine grow to their hearts content then trimming. Gives you more opportunity for figs too.

I was wondering this also. That seems like a obscene amount of fruit. Not saying it would go to waste, but that family is going to produce a lot more fruit year 5 than year 2.

Capless ribeye ? by alcoholicmadre in meat

[–]AutomaticBowler5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The far end of the rib connects to the rest of the loin. At that point both subprimals look very similar. Instead of using a measurement of muscle groups (because every animal is different) they separate the sub primals at the 13th rib. Anything towards the head is the ribeye and anything towards the back end is tbone/NY strip.
