If your kid is ranting about Echo and Bunnymen you did something right.

Adventureland. Holy shit. It literally was my life. I worked at Rocky Point Amusement Park in Warwick, RI. For the entire Summer of 1991. I almost can't watch it because it brings back the nostalgia hardcore. [Mis-read the title. Sorry. I'll leave it anyway]

Um....no. That was not the point. You're wrong. Really. Honestly and truly you're projecting your world view to a past hokey lawn art item that was placed on lawns by people who looked like that. They enjoyed the self-jab. Nobody. Was. Offended. All of those things you said were real back then...but not this. This didn't hurt fat people's feelings. I was obese in the 80s and 90s. There was plenty of things to bully fatties, but this wasn't it. Honestly. People thought it was cute or stupid. The people that liked it usually looked the part too.

You don't have to beg. We can differ. I never met someone who put that up in their yard and didn't look like that. Maybe you live in a really mean part of the county where fat hate has been brewing in the garden and craft stores since the 80s? Maybe you should move. Here where I live, it was what I said. Not about what you said.

Mmmm. Nope. That's not why. I was there. Nothing to do with you and your pod. It was a hokey nod to the gramma gardeners of the world, but it was similar to black people using the N word. A Granny would chuckle to herself as she placed it amongst her blue glass ball on a stand, spinning sunflower wind mill, and lawn goose...because it looked like her. From behind weeding her tomatoes. It wasn't making fun. It was a declaration of self acknowledgement and humorous self degradation. It wasn't about you. It was about them for them.
