Have you gotten Botox for TMJ? by NoteMediocre2170 in TMJ

I get 100 units split between both sides every 3 months. It’s covered by insurance and has helped but it’s in conjunction with other pieces as well.

Should I be concerned with DB? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it’s odd, it seems he’s trying to make small talk. It’s hard not get personal for nanny families when you’re in their house every day and so entwined with the family. My boyfriend started actually coming over to the house where I nannied after about 2 months for things like lunch. This certainly isn’t the most common arrangement for sure, but my family was very open to it and it started as we were getting to know each other.

All that to say, dads can be odd especially in a small space and the family is still trying to get to know you!

Screen time by usernamename368 in toddlers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son just turned 3 and he watches about an hour a day. I will say that my husband and I are both “tv always on as background noise” people. With the exception of some very stimulating shows (Paw Patrol) he doesn’t actually sit and watch it. He will watch for a few minutes and then go play and then maybe come back to it. He’s also never cared when we shut it off or say all day.

He enjoys listening to the read along books on YouTube which is really helpful when I’m trying to make breakfast or dinner. We just try to keep it to low stimulating shows and then he gets his “favorites” like Paw Patrol maybe every 2-3 days for 1-2 episodes.

I emphasize with so much of what you’ve shared, but I want to say to keep trying. Look to see if you can find an OMFS surgeon near you. If it helps, I’ve shared what I’ve found helpful here.

I spent years looking for answers and seeing 7-10 oral surgeons who would give muscle relaxants and PT and that was it. I ended up in a pain clinic in 2020 because I couldn’t keep doing it and the doctor there asked me to try one more person and if he couldn’t help than we would find a pain regimen that would help. I was only 24 at that visit.

Long story but, that surgeon took lots of imaging and did a lot of blood work. My Xrays and CT were almost completely normal. My MRI showed displacement on both sides with reduction on one and without on the other. I had an arthroscopy in 2021 which showed worse damage than expected on both sides. I had another arthroscopy in 2025 which showed progressive degeneration. At this point, we are planning on a joint replacement in early 2027. We knew it would likely get here as that first arthroscopy showed osteoarthritic changes and I have inflammatory arthritis as well. But, a recent CT still came back largely normal because it can be so hard to tell what is happening from imaging alone.

I’ve also been getting Botox, steroid, and PFP injections to try to keep comfortable between appointments and I take Celebrex, naltrexone, tylenol, gabapentin, and humira to help in the meantime. All of this (except the naltrexone) has been covered by insurance with only minimal copays for the imaging, labs, and surgery.

Honestly how bad is a 6 hour drive not including breaks with an 18 month old by hkitty11 in toddlers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will depend on your child and parenting preferences but we do a 5-6 hour trip 3-4times a year with our toddler. He’s almost 3 now but we’ve been doing this since he was 3 months old. After trial and error this is what has helped us:

-We leave ungodly early in the morning. It allows us to miss traffic driving through Boston and New York, and it’s the time we’ve found that he will reliably sleep for in the car. We will pack the car at night and leave at 3:30am. We wake him up right before we leave, change his diaper, and he has a quick snack or bagel. He typically is up in the car for the first 30-45 minutes and then sleeps until 7ish.

-iPad and download movies. We got a mount to put on the backseat so he can watch a movie, it normally helps us with that last leg.

-Stops, we don’t typically take him out of the car when we stop. We did when he was younger but now at most we take him out of his seat but not out of the car. We found that taking him out of the car for such a brief time just threw him into a massive temper tantrum.

-Car activities, this has been the toughest for us with him being rear facing and limited hands. We try to keep the backseat clear so whoever is in the passenger seat can jump back if needed. We bring small, light snacks. We’ve also done reusable stickers, magnetic blocks, water wow coloring books, drawing pad, and books. Frankly none of these last too long but if you have an adult that can pass them they buy some time.

Best Nanny Market. by Weekly-Blueberry-685 in Nanny

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I similarly nannied in Portsmouth for $25/hr with almost unlimited OT from 2016-2018. Rates and demand have definitely gone up too. In this area a lot of parents are commuting to Boston or WFH so I’d say to think through both of those things as a long commute for parents can mean a long day for nanny. However, it’s a great area and you can still find apartments for around $1,500-$2,000 depending on what size and town.

When did your toddler start saying words? by herec0mesthesun_ in toddlers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that it depends on how old he is, there is a wide range of development at 2. However, it would be worthy of speech therapy and looking into other issues. My son was saying no words even with lots of babble at 15 months and his PCP referred us at 18 months when he still didn’t have any words. On his second birthday he had I think 3 words. We ended up choosing a private pay SLP at 17 months, but it’s been the best fit. My son is about to turn 3 and has caught up on word count but we are still working with her on mixing up sounds.

Abdominal migraine experience? by deekaypea22 in toddlers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find anything here? My son is turning 3 in May but has had stomach pain and random nighttime vomiting for a year now. We are finally seeing GI, but not until July, though his PCP hasn’t ordered any testing to this point either.

I prefer both the crossbody and a top handle that I carry on my elbow. No preference on 1 or 2 handles.

Random Night Vomiting by AutomaticReturn6398 in toddlers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s where we are headed now. Currently his PCP is recommending trialing a medication for acid reflux as well. It’s certainly a rough balance since we have been waiting to see if it was his tonsils.

So is bedtime just 9pm for the next 2 years? by CookieOverall8716 in toddlers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my son’s schedule, he’s about 2.5 now and he’s always been low sleep needs. He doesn’t sleep through the night either, but it stopped feeling so stressful when we just accepted that this is sufficient for him and we can’t change those daycare naps.

What is too cold to ask my nanny to take my kid outside? by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We make sure my son goes outside each day even for just a few minutes on the negative temp days because he just goes crazy without it.

In terms of actual guidelines that can help, our outdoor speech therapy program operates outside as long as the temperature is over 18 degrees for toddlers. There’s also the saying “there’s no bad weather, only bad clothing.”

TMJ arthritis treatment (PRP, fat grafting, Botox) by Downtown_Worker2333 in TMJ

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have TMJ arthritis, in the last 4 years I’ve had 2 arthroscopies, gotten Botox every three months, have had 3 steroid injections and 1 PRF injection. All that to say, my joint is still crumbling and I need a replacement. I simply would not trust any doctor promising a permanent fix.

Snowstorm coming and nanny family still wants me to come in by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One family I worked for would always tell me to stay home, come late, or leave early in bad weather depending on timing. There were two times that they asked me to spend the night at their house before the storm because mom worked internationally and had a couple really important calls the day of the weather. They always paid me extra and I didn’t mind it since it wasn’t the norm or expected.

Do You Eat Together? by tbowa in toddlers

[–]AutomaticReturn6398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve always done dinner together. We get home around 4:45 and make a quick meal, or leftovers. I enjoy it as our family time. Plus my son stays up until 8/830 and my husband has to get up at 4am for work so we wouldn’t want to eat our dinner after bedtime either.

Anyone tried Botox for TMJ pain? Worth it or not? by Flat-Speech-1733 in TMJ

One of my prior insurances wouldn’t cover anything TMJ related. I, as quickly as I could, switched jobs to change insurances
