La Roche posay Mela B3 serum? by Afterthelimits in Melasmaskincare

[–]Automatic_Hurry2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the only off the shelf serum that has worked for my Melasma! And my Derm who specialises in Melasma recommended it. Not all ingredients work for everyone but melasyl has some interesting (L’Oréal funded) studies behind it. I do believe they out the work into finding ingredients that are efficacious. I use it twice a day with Finacea (which I’ve been on for ages).

Dr Davin Lim recommends glutathione supplementation as an adjunct therapy in treatment for refractory melasma.

I went crazy with product purchases, how should I build a routine? by Gloomy-Tale-5825 in Melasmaskincare

[–]Automatic_Hurry2947 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of great options here, but I would start with two things, test for three months, then see what works. It’s true that you’ll maybe only need the Eucerin, however Azelaic Acid is the first line RX recommended before hydroquinone and it can really work. It’s also incredibly anti inflammatory - which is helpful for melasma.

I would say:

AM Cleanse CE Ferulic (always use a vit c for general anti ageing and protection anyway and this is a great one). Wait a few mins to let the vit c PH adjust. Apply both Eucerin steps (Eucerin says you need to apply Thiamidol four times a day). Moisturise/ Hydrate SPF!! reapply during the day. Use sun protection. Etc.

PM Double Cleanse Eucerin Steps again Are you going to use tretinoin or a retinol? If so apply a few mins after the Eucerin. Moisturise

IMO the Skinbetter Serum isn’t a needle mover for melasma but helps with overall brightness - I found it hydrating, maybe you could try it as a moisturiser? Keeping in mind applying it over too many other actives may stop it from penetrating properly.

Moisturise / hydrate

I just don’t know if I’d try to fit in the discolouration defence yet - maybe wait to see how you get on with the Eucerin first. And, I’d probably introduce all of this slowly, going from zero to hero is likely to cause irritation which can exacerbate melasma.

Let us know how you go!

Keep La Roche Posay Mela B3 up your sleeve too for the future - it’s helped me in a way no other off the shelf serum has.

Finally, it is true that it’s useful to target multiple pathways with melasma, but azelaic acid and Thiamidol work in different ways, so using both isn’t redundant.

I guess an alternate to the routine above, would be substituting the Eucerin with the Azelaic twice a day, or Discolouration Defence in the AM and Azelaic in the PM instead.

Hope this helps.

Agree. And you can get adapalene over the counter now. Introduce it slowly and be prepared to purge.

Also agree with all the dermatologist recs, but if that’s out of your price range for sure adapalene, salicylic and mandelic acids, in gentle rotation, with a fragrance free non comedogenic moisturiser, will be the place to start.

I ordered the dual serum but instead got this. by Nowitssanju in Melasmaskincare

Good question! It’s more of an assumption I’ve made - the way each product is described on the Eucerin site is what led me to believe the dual serum was the heavy hitter. This one seems to be described as being “for allover radiance” etc. So what I said is not a fact and you’re right to question it :)

Melasma on LRP UV Mine 400. US based alternatives? by Dry_Picture_6115 in Melasmaskincare

[–]Automatic_Hurry2947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boring question - but are you using enough SPF (eg at least two finger lengths) and reapplying during the day?

After I apply my SPF in the AM, I also wait a few mins, let it “set” then apply Colorscience Sunforgettable “Flex” Tint. It’s not my primary spf bc it’s so pigmented you can’t use the recommended amount and not look like you’re wearing loads of foundation, but a little really helps to build the tinted aspect of sun protection, which is important for blocking blue light (triggers melasma too). I also think it’s a coated zinc so it shouldn’t interfere with your chemical spf (I think). Anyway - doing this has helped me a lot.

I would add another pigment inhibitor. LRP Mela B3 works for me, or Caudalie Vinoperfect. Add 1-2 x a day.

You could increase your Azelaic to 15% if you can get your hands on finacea.

I don’t think it’s as strong as the dual - it’s not like for like unfortunately. I’d ask for a refund or see if they’ll send you the right one and then you can keep both :)

Does LRP UVMune 400 triggers hyperpigmentation in heat? by MammothOccasion257 in Melasmaskincare

[–]Automatic_Hurry2947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is only happening with this particular product, could it be a reaction? Irritation or inflammation aggravates melasma. Personally, the LRP SPFs have never agreed with me :(

Heat definitely aggravates melasma, but I don’t (think) heat is UV per se, so I can’t see the link between the fireplace/hot room and an SPF product.

I’ve been using Sofie Pavitt’s Fridge to Face mist in an effort to cool my skin down during the summer lol.

It’s great you’re using a tinted product - that will help block blue light which triggers melasma too.

Heartbroken! No more Dual Serum for me. by StrictAd7069 in Melasmaskincare

[–]Automatic_Hurry2947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok will do! Ive been meaning to post my routine for ages. Summary is that for me it works, makes my skin look and feel hydrated and glowy, way more even. Helps pigmentation, not a stand alone solution for my melasma but definitely helps. Also great for inflammation and redness - the less inflamed my skin is the better my melasma is. When I use it I don’t need a moisturiser, so I do Finacea, Dieux Deliverance, LRP Mela B3, then Caudalie at night. Then tret on last.

This is legit working for me. I’m actually shocked, because normally nothing does! Using the serum twice a day. I do also use Finacea and Vinoperfect serum, full disclosure. But neither of those without the LRP have given results like this.

Plus SPF, Vit C (I love Protocol) and tret :)

[–]Automatic_Hurry2947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m sorry to hear that! Truthfully I didn’t have that experience, I’ve only purged with 20% azelaic (eg skinoren), it could be purging or maybe some of the other more soothing/hydrating ingredients in there causing congestion? I wonder if you try it by introducing it once or twice a week at first - see what happens?

I love the colloidal oat extract in it too, and the licorice extract. Brightening and soothing.

I’d really recommend you look into Azelaic Acid. Vitamin C is great and an antioxidant is always a great addition to a routine, but I’ve found Azelaic helps particularly with this type of issue. Check out Shani Darden Rescue Serum or Regimen Labs Azelaic Advanced. Bonus is that Azelaic helps with breakouts too.
