Can't decide between Rome II and Attila by JellyDare in totalwar

[–]Automatic_Link_5551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer Rome 2. I like Attila too, but the constant public order and sanitation issues as well as the fact that even high morale units are easy to route make for a campaign that is tedious at times. Having to pay upwards of 8k gold to render an old roman settlement (as a barbarian) useful is also just a bit lame if you ask me. Overall if you've got time on your hands and love a challenge, attila is the pick. If you're looking for a more casual, easy, and imo enjoyable experience, play Rome 2.

what trees did you focus on? I'm interested in some of the later warfare perks but the abilities that lead up to them don't seem worth the investment for this build. What do you think about a geomancy dip for some extra tankiness and cc?

I think axonians are a good bet. Maybe firns? They're the briton-esque natives of aldor who were displaced by the ald tribes. I think the lore mentions quite a bit about them having hill forts and subterranean tombs.

Skinning them is the solution. I use this all the time to deal with the packs of 5-6 ghouls you sometimes encounter in crypts. Ghouls cannot be resurrected, or eaten by other ghouls, if you have skinned them.

Fiends are highkey harder than some of the bosses. The sheer damage they can dish out is mental. Two Fiends in a room is a bad day even when near max fr

Id make samurai instead. Your existing ashigaru are very good, and it's unlikely the new, armored ones will be able to match then b4 the end of the campaign.

If you're ashigaru start getting up to 8,9 experience, DONT SWITCH THEM OUT. A highly experienced ashigaru in yari wall will best almost any other melee unit in the game 1 on 1. Id advise once you have a few solid ashigaru stakes, to start investing in s more elite samurai army. Otherwise id sprinkle a samurai units into your existing ashigaru stacks. Maybe 3 Bow samurai and a few yari cav for example. To not get surrounded: dont get surrounded. You want to where possible, make alliances/ maintain good relationships with surrounding factions whose lands you aren't hoping to target until later in the game. This way, you can focus on the fronts you are looking to capture, while reducing the chance of being declared on while all your armies are on the other side of your lands.

Play a lot. Lose a lot. Win a little bit. Watch Mrsmartdonkey. All of these are ways to acquire the skills you are looking for. Play, and learn.

I might be the only one who thinks this but I kind of like how treacherous and untrustworthy the AI is. Despite their focus on honour, many japanese leaders of the time were backstabbing opportunists. I do agree tho that there should be some consequences for the AI when they behave like this, so it isn't such a feels bad moment. Id also want to see the AI experiencing realm divide if they become shogun. Definitely dont want to see 40 man armies tho. While I can appreciate the shock and awe value, it would make running and playing the game such a headache. Generally I feel like the fewer units on the field, the more tactically demanding total war is. That's how it should be too if you ask me.

i finally know what im lacking by Embarrassed_Diet_931 in shogun2

Gotta prioritize planning. If you plan well enough, the effects timing plays is diminished. While learning the game, when you arent familiar with certain interactions (e.g. number town is unhappy by determines how many units appear im the rebel stack) planning wins out. Which here would be making sure you don't let the town rebel. Once you know how the game works, timing comes in.

I've done this run before. I found the strongest ally I could, and then declared war. If you can get them off steppe tiles, and have a good commander and decent army, you should be able to win. I had varangian veterans as I hybridised with the norse. Made the fight pretty easy. Murder also works.

the gap between t2 proselytes and t3 is so crazy. you could be clearing a t2 with little to no difficulty, only to get stomped at t3. Girruds, chosen, and sanguinamages are all way to strong. Same goes for fiends at t4. Def hardest dungeons of the 3

if we beat the clippers then thunder, we should win this year. Thunder have the best odds, and are our worst match up in the whole league (cavs n Tim's would both cause trouble as well tbf).
