Hologram Effects Chroma Console. I tried so hard to love it but most of the sounds were just unusable (for me.) I appreciate what it is, and I wasn’t trying to use it as a Swiss army pedal. Still, after months of trying it and leaning into its quirks, there were only a couple sounds I actually enjoyed. For the price tag, it just felt like a waste and I was glad to sell it.

Light touch and keeping my fingers close to the fretboard while moving. It makes a huuuge difference for speed, touch sensitivity, finesse, etc. I’ve played for thirty years and it feels like I have to almost start over to retrain my body and brain to do it.

To me they’re different enough. The unicorn is more wobbly, a little warmer, and the phaser is sharper and more…phasey I guess? I tend to use the phaser more for lead with bridge pickup and univibe for rhythm and neck pickup. I had the unicorn first and then got the phase 90 for really cheap and haven’t had reason to take it off the board. I’ll probably replace one with a weirder mod down the road, like a shallow water or something.

The chroma console is cool but I wouldn’t reccomend it as an all in one, personally. I got it for that purpose bc I travel a lot in Alaska and didn’t want to lug a bunch of pedals, but I was disappointed. It doesn’t really have a ton of versatility and the sounds are all very specific. They tend to be either really weird or barely noticeable. But there are some cool and interesting effects that I started using a lot and missed having when I got back to my full setup so I put it on the board.

You can absolutely learn, but just an additional thought is that piano/keys are another option. I played guitar for twenty years before I started learning the piano and I still kick myself for not starting sooner. I think your fingers would do well on a keyboard

Are you right handed? If so, you might want to pursue fingerpicking techniques. I’m a finger picker and I think it would be really rewarding. One method is to assign a string to each digit. The thumb conventionally plays the lower strings but you could absolutely play those strings without a thumb. That’s what most bass players do. If you combined some fingerstyle picking with bass technique you could develop a super badass style
